Studies usually just means an artist is trying to draw something relatively highly referenced. But a "study" can be broad, you can be studying a character design, colors, lighting, brush application/strokes. Really anything! But when I say study, I mean I have a frame of the movie pulled up on another monitor that I'm using as reference. This was more a general study to just get back in the swing of drawing!
