Not only was I captivated by the events that unfolded throughout this movie but I was also blown away by the stunning performances from the cast. This movie was deservedly praised throughout award season in 2014. It brought home a couple of well deserved Oscars.
I was also highly impressed by the balance between comedy and drama. The rewatchability of this film is pretty high considering they were able to tell a really devastating story with a lot of heart and humor.

Wow! I'd never seen this before, but I'm glad I did and that I got to watch it with you Jax! Amazing performances in this top to bottom. Matthew McConaughey really showed how talented an actor he is. He's usually pretty great. I think the closest he gets to something like this is probably the first season of True Detective. About Rock Hudson, he was actually the first big American celebrity to die of AIDS and when he finally revealed his diagnosis, it led to a lot more public attention on HIV/AIDS and it led to a lot more funding into research on it.
