They survived after the Battle of Serenity Valley by surrendering (and hoping that the peeps they surrender to aren't bloodthirsty monsters). There isn't really any more detail beyond that (that I know of).

For those wondering: Even though Jax is watching it on Hulu, it syncs up perfectly if you're watching it on Disney+. Same pre-roll, same ad-break blackscreen lengths, all good. Once we start getting some "previously on"-parts it may diverge, not sure if Hulu kept those the way Disney+ does.
