🕑 Added 2024-10-30 12:05:15 +0000 UTCChapter 209: A noble banquet? A mass funeral!
The capital of the Land of Rain, the daimyo place.
A figure wearing green layered armor and a samurai sword on his waist stood outside the mansion.
Although his figure seemed a little short, he exuded a sharp feeling.
Click! Click!
The heavy black door was opened by two servants. Behind the door, which was wide enough for five people to enter side by side, was a grand and spacious luxurious courtyard.
"Mifune-sama, please follow me."
The servant extended his hand respectfully and led the man into the house.
"Please lead the way."
Although the person in front of him was just a servant, the man's attitude was neither humble nor arrogant, giving people the impression of being a stickler for conventions and stubbornness.
And from the servant's words, his identity was clear.
Mifune, a nobody six years ago, is now the General of the Land of Iron. He is a strong man who is extremely skilled in Iai Slash. In the ninja world where ninja has become the mainstream, he is one of the few people who still adheres to the pure samurai spirit.
What the world doesn't know is that this General of the Land of Iron also has a connection to Hanzo.
Bang!
The door behind him slammed shut, and Mifune followed the servant through the dimly lit corridor.
Although there were no women in the courtyard, with his extraordinary sense of smell, he could still smell the faint scent of perfume floating in the air..
As Mifune walked into the palace, he found himself in the extremely spacious hall.
At the innermost side, there is a long mulberry red table with a six-piece tea set on it. Water is boiling on the stove. Isibi, who is making tea, sits at the end, with quaint wooden pillars and red ivory eaves above his head.
Compared to the Daimyo's mansion that Hanzo had seen not long ago, this glass-like luxury had not changed at all, except that today the crystal floor lacked the beautiful beauties reflected in clusters of flowers and the girls with heavy makeup.
Now that they are missing from this place, the whole space loses its colorful vitality.
Perhaps Isibi wanted to get closer to Mifune through this "elegant" mood, but in Mifune's eyes, this scene seemed particularly incongruous.
It should have been a paradise filled with decadent music and a life of luxury, but now it is being transformed into the paradise of desirelessness described in Buddhist scriptures. It is simply unable to conceal the atmosphere of luxury and power that is revealed everywhere.
"It seems that the rumors about the Land of Rain's Daimyo Isibi's dissolute personality and love of luxury are true."
Thinking this in his mind, Mifune remained cold and hard on the surface. He walked to the long table and sat down. The servant behind him stopped not far away and did not come forward.
"I have admired general Mifune for a long time, but I didn't expect you to come here in person. What an unexpected surprise."
Isibi said while pouring the tea.
"I am honored to be invited by His Highness Isibi." Mifune sat upright on the futon, remaining calm despite the flattery.
Seeing the Land of Iron general so calm, Isibi laughed and stopped probing, saying bluntly, "I heard that after becoming the general, Mister Mifune changed the Land of Iron's once belligerent diplomatic style and gradually became low-key and restrained."
"While traveling around the world, challenging swordsmen, and making a name for yourself, you are also lobbying the daimyo and nobles of the five great nations, hoping to make the Land of Iron a neutral country?"
The Land of Iron is undoubtedly a very special country, not only because there are no ninjas in the country, but also because of its geographical location and climatic environment.
It is located in the cold area in the northern part of the Ninja World. There is an ice sea in the north, the Land of Fire in the south, the Land of Waterfall between the Land of Earth in the west, and the Land of Field between the Land of Lightning in the east.
Although it is not as cold as the Land of Snow where there is snow all year round and no spring, the climate is still cold and the resources are very scarce.
The absence of ninjas means there is no strong fighting power, and the barren land means there is no value in invasion.
At the same time, because of the particularity of the "samurai" group, today's nobles are obviously more willing to trust samurai who put loyalty above all else than those ninjas who kill their teachers and fathers at every turn and put profit above all else.
Coupled with Mifune's lobbying and reputation since he took office, as well as the influence of the samurai who were scattered across various countries and became the personal guards of the nobles of each country, there was no doubt that the Land of Iron had great hope of becoming a neutral country.
Hearing Isibi's words, Mifune's expression was calm, and he nodded slightly, saying, "Yes, I hope that the Land of Iron will value harmony and be loyal to harmony in the future, and become a bridge for friendly exchanges between major countries."
Hearing this, Isibi couldn't help feeling a little sarcastic, but he had to admit the decisiveness of the man in front of him.
Loyalty for "harmony"?
At a time when ninjas have become mainstream, Mifune is well aware of the fate of samurai today.
The former value of the samurai has long disappeared, having been replaced by ninjas who possess powerful ninjutsu. Many samurai have turned to become ninjas, and even their values have been aligned with those of ninjas, becoming bounty-paying "ninjas" who put profit above all else.
After Mifune became the general of the Land of Iron, he immediately drove these samurai out of the Land of Iron in order to maintain the "purity" within the Land of Iron.
The Black Warriors, a bounty hunter team of nearly a hundred people hired by Ōnoki, were made up of those wandering samurai.
If you cannot work for money and do not want to completely destroy your country, you can only be loyal to "harmony".
Although Mifune spoke with such righteousness, in fact it was just a helpless act to avoid the war by maintaining a neutral status.
Nevertheless, it takes courage to cut off one's own arm. Not everyone has the determination to sacrifice pawns to save the chariot like Mifune, and to survive in a desperate situation.
"I greatly admire the faith of Mister Mifune."
Isibi was disdainful in his heart, but he still showed admiration on his face and said with a smile: "I invited Mister Mifune this time because I admire you and I also want to see whether your determination is worthy of the position of a neutral country."
"How do you feel, Your Highness?" Mifune asked with a slight smile.
"Seeing is believing." Isibi said sincerely, "We in the Land of Rain have also suffered from the hardships and pain of war, so I am willing to support the Land of Iron to become a neutral country in the name of the Land of Rain."
Mifune knew there was no such thing as a free lunch, so his face remained expressionless. He stared at Isibi in front of him and asked directly, "What does Your Highness want me to do?"
Isibi didn't pay attention to his directness. He took a sip from the teacup in front of him and said with a smile, "I hope you can persuade the Daimyo of the Land of Wind and the Land of Fire to cease fire. As long as the conditions are not too excessive, I can agree to them, even if it means signing a vassal agreement."
Hearing this, Mifune was stunned for a moment, then he looked deeply at Isibi who was smiling.
This proposal is indeed in line with his position of loyalty to "harmony".
If he could end this war that had lasted for years through lobbying and exchange of interests, his name would spread throughout the ninja world, and the Land of Iron would inevitably become a neutral country, and a neutral country with an extremely special status.
When conflicts and differences arise between countries, they do not want to resolve them through war, but they all have their own necessary demands. When the two sides cannot reach a consensus, the value of the Iron Nation is reflected.
"I have to admit that your highness's suggestion is indeed good. I am grateful for your advice."
Mifune couldn't help but sigh, and the contempt in his heart dissipated a lot.
Regardless of what kind of person Isibi is, just the way he takes advantage of and follows the trend of the times is indeed worthy of the position of Daimyo.
At a time when some ninjas possess extraordinary powers, they are still able to maintain an equal or even jurisdictional relationship with the ninja villages. The daimyo of every country is not an easy person to deal with and one can easily be used as a free tool if one is not careful.
It seems that at least in terms of "understanding people's hearts" and "assessing the situation", he, the "General of the Land of Iron", still has a lot to learn.
"Then Mister Mifune, do you agree?"
Isibi was not at all surprised. He lowered his head, poured a cup of tea, raised the cup and smiled.
"I can't think of any reason to refuse." Mifune showed a slightly stiff smile on his face and raised his teacup to return the favor.
After drinking the tea, both parties were very satisfied with this cooperation.
Isibi simply stood up and said with a smile: "It's still raining heavily outside. It's not easy for you to come here. It's time for dinner too. Why don't you accompany me to taste the cuisine of the Land of Rain?"
Mifune nodded and said, "Thank you for your invitation. I dare not refuse."
After saying that, he stepped back half a body length, and the servant who had been silent all this time helped them open the door of the hall.
The two servants waiting outside the door held up umbrellas for the two of them. The heavy rain and fog came in their faces like smoke, and the air they breathed in suddenly became humid, as if covered by a veil.
Isibi waved his hands in disgust, trying to get rid of the smell of water, but it was in vain. He could only walk faster towards the side hall.
A low table was placed in a U shape in the hall. On the table were small plates of cold food and a few bottles of sake. Nobles in gorgeous clothes were sitting around the table, talking and laughing.
It wasn't until Isibi walked in that the noisy atmosphere suddenly came to a halt, and everyone's eyes were cast towards Mifune behind him.
"I don't need to introduce this person to you guys, right?"
Isibi threw open his folding fan, covering the lower half of his face, and said with a smile: "Land of Iron, general Mifune."
Ignoring the whispers of the crowd, Isibi sat in the first seat with a smile on his face, and the retainer in the second seat consciously made way for him.
After nodding in thanks, Mifune sat on it, with his hands pressed tightly on his thighs, observing the layout of the entire hall with his peripheral vision, and indeed he noticed the defenses arranged around him.
Those cold and merciless gazes were very familiar, and many of them were warriors from the Land of Iron.
Sniff! Sniff!
Mifune seemed to smell something and frowned slightly.
Is that the smell of blood?
How could it be so strong?
He turned around and looked in the direction of the bloody smell, but he only saw the old man standing behind Isibi.
The old man also noticed his gaze, turned his head and nodded with a smile, looking like a very kind old man.
A woman knelt down behind Mifune, reached out her hand, rolled up her sleeves and poured him a cup of hot tea.
"What is this?" Mifune looked at Isibi and asked tentatively.
Isibi was also stunned for a moment, then smiled and said, “They are the chefs for the banquet. Everyone here has one.”
Chef?
No wonder there is such a strong smell of blood.
Realizing this, Mifune's tense body gradually relaxed.
"Haha, don't be so nervous about the dinner."
Isibi also realized his idea, waved his hand and laughed loudly: "They are just some civilians in the Land of Rain who are good at cooking. I recruited them because the dishes they invented are very popular."
After that, he threw open his folding fan to cover his face, squinted his eyes and smiled as he asked, "Speaking of this, Mister Mifune, I heard that you seemed to have a connection with Hanzo of our Amegakure Village in the past. Is it true?"
Hearing this, Mifune did not deny it. He touched the bandage on his head, nodded and said frankly: "To be precise, I am very grateful and respectful to Lord Hanzo."
"When I was still a nobody, he used his scythe to cut off my sword, leaving a scar on my head, but in the end he still spared my life."
In the past, the Land of Iron had fought with the Amegakure Village. On the battlefield, the Land of Iron warriors turned around and ran away as soon as they heard the name of Salamander Hanzo. Only Mifune was left alone, standing in front of Hanzo with a samurai sword in his hand.
After a brief fight, Mifune used his specialty, the Iai Slash, but was defeated by Hanzo using the same move, and his sword was broken by Hanzo.
Hanzo's scythe is highly poisonous, and anyone poisoned will surely die within two days.
Mifune originally wanted to die, and before he died, he wanted to use his death in exchange for Hanzo's promise not to kill his companions. However, Hanzo admired Mifune's spirit of sacrificing himself to protect his companions, so he gave Mifune the antidote.
From then on, Mifune began to work hard and carry out his beliefs. Now his Iai Slash has become even more powerful. The ninjutsu of ordinary ninjas has no effect on Mifune because he will not give the ninjas the chance to complete hand seals.
"I didn't expect that the two of you would have such a fate." Isibi covered his face, his eyes flickered slightly, and smiled, "Mister Mifune, do you want to see Hanzo again?"
"Why do I want to see him again?" Mifune smiled faintly, "It seems that Your Highness doesn't know that in the minds of samurai, the moment when the enemy is facing each other is the moment when the victory or defeat is decided. We prefer to communicate with swords, so it is better not to meet."
"I see. It's a pity that I can't see your sword skills."
Isibi sighed and put down the folding fan in front of him.
The solid jewel fan made a very crisp sound when it touched the table, which meant that the dinner had begun.
"Everyone." He looked up at the people at the table and smiled slightly, "Please enjoy the delicious food!"
The moment the words fell, the atmosphere suddenly became heated.
The chefs behind the crowd also stood up, each holding an iron spoon in his hand.
"Oh, by the way, Your Highness, you guys are now..."
Making room for the chef behind him, Mifune seemed to have thought of something and turned to look at the people around him.
But in the next moment.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
In Mifune's black eyes, it was as if a gorgeous flower blossomed.
However, what fell was not petals, but...
Behind the officials, the chefs were holding iron spoons, with blood streaming down their cheeks.
All he could see before his eyes was a hazy blood mist, with blood threads sticking to Mifune's stunned cheeks like spider silk.
In the corner of his eye, the woman whom Isibi called "chef" still had a gentle smile on her face, but her pupils had turned into strange scarlet vertical pupils.
Just now, almost as a subconscious instinct, he had already drawn the sword from his waist to block the powerful attack from behind.
This is a completely unexpected mutation...
"Please enjoy the first dish."
Standing behind the stunned Isibi, the old man put his hands in front of him. His gentle smile was stained with blood, but he still leaned forward slightly and said respectfully: "Raw animal brains."
