🕑 Added 2024-11-07 12:06:05 +0000 UTCChapter 217: The Three of Konoha
Konoha is still sunny and full of vitality after winter.
Even if there is flying snow, no one will associate it with words like cold and hungry.
A man wearing a black tight combat uniform, a Konoha standard green vest on the outside, and a high black ponytail, stood at the gate of Konoha, looking at the forest that was already covered with a layer of snow.
At this moment, a slight sound of footsteps sounded behind him, and he subconsciously turned his head to look at the source of the sound.
Seeing the familiar figure in white robes, the man said in surprise: "Hiruko? I didn't expect that the person that the Third Hokage-sama asked me to wait for was actually you."
Hiruko tied the Konoha forehead guard around his neck, looked at the man expressionlessly and said indifferently: "Nara Yushiro, I didn't expect that the Third Hokage-sama would send you to accompany me."
The two were classmates of the same class, but Hiruko was promoted to jonin not long ago, while Nara Yushiro was already an elite qualified to participate in the jonin conference.
Nara Yushiro was deeply impressed by Hiruko. As early as when he was in the Ninja School, Hiruko was a maverick who gave people a gloomy feeling, but his talent was not outstanding.
If a talented person like Orochimaru acts eccentrically, it is called the arrogance of a genius.
But a person like Hiruko who has no talent and is independent can only be called a loner.
"It's a coincidence indeed. We haven't seen each other for such a long time. I didn't expect that our meeting would be in this kind of occasion."
Nara Yushiro didn't think much of Hiruko, and said politely, "During your time at school, weren't you on good terms with Orochimaru and Jiraiya? It seems I'll have to rely on you when I go to the front this time."
However, hearing his words, Hiruko's already cold face darkened, and a trace of jealousy and malice flashed across his red eyes as he looked at Nara Yushiro.
In the Ninja School, he was indeed a friend of Jiraiya, Tsunade and Orochimaru, but this friendship, which was already limited, disappeared long after graduation when the three became disciples of the Third Hokage.
He is not Jiraiya, and he does not have Jiraiya's luck. He is not Orochimaru, and he does not have Orochimaru's talent. He is not Tsunade, and he does not have Tsunade's background.
He was just a civilian ninja with no talent, an insignificant figure in the entire Konoha. His highest achievement in his life might be being a jonin. How could he compare to those three people with unlimited prospects?
During this period, Hiruko always heard news about Jiraiya and the other two from other people, saying that they had made great military achievements and were very famous.
On the contrary, he gradually became lost in the crowd. The gap between them was like heaven and earth. Over time, his feelings towards the three people gradually changed from envy to jealousy. He attributed his own mediocrity to the injustice of God and Konohagakure.
And what he hated the most were guys like Nara Yushiro who were born in the ninja clan!
"Hehe." Hiruko smiled gloomily, without responding to Nara Yushiro's politeness, and said in a cold tone, "Hasn't the last guy come yet?"
The convention of Konoha is to form a team of three, and now it is obvious that the last person is missing.
Sensing Hiruko's indifference, Nara Yushiro shrugged his shoulders indifferently, holding the back of his head with both hands and said: "I guess he's on the way. After all, there's still half a day before the agreed time..."
Before he could finish his words, a slight vibration suddenly came from under his feet, causing him to swallow the rest of his words and look up towards the village in the distance.
"Aaaaaaaaah! Here I come! The front line! The battlefield!!"
They saw a cloud of dust rising up on the street and a green figure running towards them, accompanied by an inexplicable and passionate howl.
“…Who is that guy?”
Hiruko could see the man's attire from afar: funny green tights, a funny hairstyle and thick eyebrows.
"I remember it was..." Nara Yushiro also opened his mouth, "Might Dai? How could it be him? Wait, if I remember correctly, this operation was kept secret, right?"
Might Dai?
Hiruko thought for a moment, frowned and said, "I don't remember any jonin being dressed like this."
"He's a genin."
Hearing Nara Yushiro's slightly helpless tone, Hiruko immediately looked at him strangely.
"He is indeed a Genin." Nara Yushiro spread his hands, "And because he only knows Taijutsu, he has not been able to pass the Chunin exam for several years. He is also ridiculed as a 'Eternal Genin'."
"..." Hiruko was speechless for a moment.
If he didn't know Nara Yushiro's character, he would even think that the other party was joking.
Genin?
Or is he a Genin who only knows Taijutsu and is teased as an 'Eternal Genin'?
Let this kind of rubbish go with them on an S-rank mission?
Was the Third Hokage joking?
Under the strange gazes of Hiruko and Nara Yushiro, the figure stood in front of them, panting.
"Hoo! Hoo! You are my companions, right?"
Might Dai breathed heavily, looked at Hiruko and the other two and grinned, his white teeth shining with dazzling light: "Hello, I'm Might Dai, I'm good at Konoha fluid technique, Nice to meet you!"
"Konoha fluid technique?" Nara Yushiro was stunned for a moment, and subconsciously asked, "Does Konoha have such a physical technique?"
"It didn't exist before, but it exists now!" Might Dai posed, baring his teeth, "I created it!"
“…”
His teeth are so shiny, and his tone is so intimate. It feels so weird. Could this guy be a fool?
A similar thought flashed through Nara Yushiro's mind, and then he saw Might Dai raise his hands holding the cake box and grinned, "This is a meeting gift, please accept it."
The cake was obviously freshly baked as it was still steaming.
"……Thanks."
Nara Yushiro's eyes twitched, and after a moment's hesitation, he took it out of courtesy and couldn't help asking, "You ran so fast just now, weren't you afraid that the cake would get cold?"
Might Dai scratched his head in confusion and asked, "How did you know?"
Looking at the silly Might Dai, although Nara Yushiro still felt that he was unreliable, his impression of him improved a little, and he took the initiative to smile and said, "My name is Nara Yushiro, I am good at shadow prasics jutsu, Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you."
Might Dai flashed his white teeth again and said to himself: "Nara Yushiro, so it's the Nara clan. What Minato said is indeed right. The Nara clan are all very smart."
After that, he turned to look at Hiruko who had been silent the whole time, handed the cake in his hand to him, grinned and said, "This is for you."
"I said you..."
Hiruko did not take the cake, but looked at him coldly and said: "If you don't have the talent to become a ninja, just give up. I guess you can't even have enough food."
Hearing this, Might Dai was stunned for a moment, but soon he showed a bright smile: "Youth is about hard work. Even if you achieve nothing in the end, at least you have left evidence that you have lived. Hard work will never betray you!"
After that, he showed his beautiful white teeth, raised his thumb and winked at Hiruko: "Don't worry, although I can't use ninjutsu and genjutsu, it is because of this that I can devote all my efforts to Taijutsu."
"If we really encounter enemies and danger, I will never hold you back! My youth is about never giving up!"
A cool breeze rushed to Nara Yushiro's head, and he couldn't help but take a breath and touch his arm which was covered with goosebumps.
His habit of embarrassing others came back again.
The guy in front of him is not young, how can he still be a hot-blooded fool?
With his personality, it is impossible for him to accept the kindness of such a guy, right?
However, after hearing Might Dai's inexplicable words, Hiruko remained silent for a long time.
"Useless efforts... It's disgusting."
After a moment, he uttered a word with a cold expression, and a strange color flashed across his red eyes.
However, under the surprised gaze of Nara Yushiro, he still took the cake sent by Might Guy, walked out of the Konoha gate without looking back, and said indifferently: "Hurry up, let's go."
Might Dai blinked, clenched his fists and raised his arms, "Ooooh! Let's go!"
After saying that, he hurriedly caught up and walked side by side with Hiruko.
"Hey, Senior Hiruko, what are you good at?"
"…Medical Ninjutsu."
"Really? What a coincidence! My wife is also good at medical ninjutsu."
"…You talk too much nonsense."
Behind him, looking at the two people's completely different yet inexplicably matched backs, Nara Yushiro raised his hand and slapped them on the forehead.
What a bad combination.
He always feels that this mission will not go smoothly.
————————
The Land of Rain, by the river that divides the north and the south.
"Makoto! Why don't you go home? The water is going to rise!"
"I know, aunty. I'll be back as soon as I get the water!"
The boy called "Makoto" put down the bucket on his shoulder, sat on the hillside, breathing slightly, and looked at the rushing river in the distance. A big black dog also sat beside him with its tongue hanging out.
Although he had promised his aunty from the same village to go back early, Makoto now wanted to rest here for a while. After all, he didn't know when the rain would stop next time.
He is seven years old. His parents died of illness a few years ago. In order to pay for their treatment, they sold almost everything they could at home, leaving only a house that could barely provide shelter for him, his sister and his grandfather.
Oh, by the way, there is also a black dog that he named "Kuro".
There was a time when the family was extremely hungry and they almost killed the black dog for its meat. It was only because he and his sister protected it that their grandfather spared its life.
Makoto saw with his own eyes that his parents were tortured to death by illness. At that time, not only his parents but also many people from his fellow villagers died from that strange disease.
His grandfather told him that there were two doctors, a man and a woman, who passed by their village with their daughter. The couple were really good people and treated the villagers for free. Unfortunately, they were unable to cure the strange disease in the end.
The male doctor even contracted the disease and unfortunately died in their village, while the female doctor disappeared the next day, leaving the village with her daughter without saying goodbye.
His grandfather said, "This world and this country are terminally ill and beyond cure.”
At that time, the young Makoto didn't understand what it meant. But now he is the main labor force in the family. He can fetch water for the family, take the black dog named "Kuro" to sell firewood, and then rush back home to prepare meals for his sister.
So, he also heard a lot of news from adults.
Some people say that there is a group of rebels on the other side of the river and that the people there are living in dire straits. Others say that people there live well, have enough food to eat and warm clothes to wear, and have fulfilling lives, and do not need to worry about war.
Makoto is a poor child who has grown up early. He is much more mature and sensible than other children of the same age. He doesn't know whether the rumors are true or not.
Even though the daimyo had already sent people to guard the river bank to prohibit people from crossing the river, there were still many people who could not survive and wanted to take a gamble and secretly built boats to cross the river.
At least half of the people in their village had left, most of them having lost their families and had no ties.
The rest basically have families with them, old and young, with nowhere to go and can only choose to stay.
Makoto also wanted to go and see, but his sister was too young and his grandfather was not in good health, so he had to give up the idea.
However, as long as grandpa and sister are healthy and happy, Makoto feels that it is all worth it.
Thinking of this, Makoto turned his head to look at the black dog, reached out and touched its bulging belly, and encouraged it: "Kuro, you must give birth to a few more puppies, then we can sell them in the city and give you extra meals! Eat meat!"
“Woof woof woof!”
When the black dog heard that he could eat meat, he stuck out his tongue and barked a few times, completely unaware that his little master had already set his sights on his unborn baby.
Suddenly, the black dog looked behind Makoto, his body tensed up instantly, and his originally well-behaved eyes suddenly turned fierce.
Makoto reacted almost instantly and reached for his waist with his right hand without hesitation.
But the next moment, when he was about to stand up and pull out the tattered knife from his waist, a hand grabbed his shoulder.
The unquestionable force held him down, and also caused his hand, which was already holding the broken knife, to tense in place.
"Makoto, it's me."
Hearing the person behind him actually say his name, Makoto looked back in surprise and saw a very familiar face but one that had lost its youthfulness.
"You, you are..." Makoto was stunned for a moment, and the face soon overlapped with the face in his memory. He said in surprise, "You are Brother Hosoi saru!"
Hearing him calling out his name, the boy couldn't help but twitch his eyes. He turned his head and saw the strange looks from his companions.
“Puff!”
Finally, someone couldn't hold back his laughter and joked, "Captain Ebisu Taira, why does he call you Hosoi saru?"
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone else burst into laughter, and the air was filled with joy.
"I'll let you laugh enough when we get back!" Furatto's face suddenly darkened, and he patted Makoto's head unhappily: "And you, you little bastard, I have changed my name to Furatto now, don't call me by that name anymore!"
"Yeah, Hos... Brother Furatto, you look a lot stronger." Makoto rubbed his head, grinned for a while, and then asked in confusion, "Didn't you go to the north? When did you come back?"
Hearing this, Furatto did not answer, but turned to look at the figure beside him.
"Your name is Makoto, right?"
A voice with a somewhat cold but peaceful tone came from behind, and a broad figure cast a shadow from behind that enveloped Makoto.
Makoto subconsciously turned his head to look, but only saw a black robe. When he looked up again, he saw that rather ordinary face and the pair of scarlet vertical pupils that seemed to have some words engraved on them.
"My name is Yoru, and I am the traitor in the eyes of those nobles." He stretched out his broad palm and gently touched Makoto's head, smiling slightly, "The enemies of the Land of Rain will be here soon. Can you help me notify your village to evacuate?"
