"War……"
After dinner, Asuto stood at the bow, feeling the fishing boat swaying with the waves under his feet, and staring at the river in front of him in a daze.
"The amount you eat today doesn't match your current weight." A teasing voice came from behind him.
Asa, picking his teeth with a toothpick, came out of the cabin, turned around and leaned against the bow to look at Asuto, who had a sad face, and raised his eyebrows and said, "Why, do you have no appetite today? I think the meal our mother cooked today is pretty good, right?"
"No." Asuto shook his head, sighed, and said casually, "You will understand when you reach my age."
“……”
Looking at his brother who was pretending to be mature, Asa’s eyes twitched, he subconsciously wanted to twist Asuto’s ears.
But as if he remembered something, his raised hand stopped in mid-air.
I'm leaving soon, this kid must be worried.
Thinking of this, his slightly frowned brows relaxed, and he placed his palm on Asuto's head and said gently: "Don't worry, I'm very strong."
"Ah? What are you worried about?"
Hearing this, Asuto came back to his senses, was stunned for a moment, slapped the hand that was on his head, and complained: "Don't touch my head, Yahiko said I won't grow taller..."
Asa finally couldn't help but twist Asuto's ear and said, "So, what are you thinking about? Huh?"
Asuto scratched his head and coughed hesitantly, "Ahem. It's not a big deal, it's just, it's just..."
"What?"
"You have to promise me first that you will listen to me and not touch me..." Asuto muttered.
Asa frowned, and became wary, but he still said without hesitation: "Okay, okay, I promise you, why are you dithering and talking so much nonsense?"
Asuto pursed his lips and whispered, "I want to go with you."
"Hmm? go with me?" Asa was stunned for a moment, "Where do you want to go with me?”
"Of course I'm going to the battlefield, brother!"
"……ha?"
Asa's eyes gradually widened, and he punched him on the head and growled, "Don't even think about it!"
"Why are you so surprised?" Asuto also gave up, rubbing his head and pouting, "I'm already very strong, and I just lost to you by a narrow margin!"
"I was just teasing you, little brat! Do you really think you can fight me?"
Asa took a deep breath, stood up straight and said in a serious tone: "You are still young and have a lot to learn. You can go to the battlefield when you graduate from the academy."
"But, you didn't go to the academy either, but you still went to the battlefield!"
Asuto lowered his head, and whispered unwillingly: "What's more, I feel that my breathing method development has been stuck. If I stay here, there will be no progress at all!"
The breathing method is mainly used to strengthen the cardiopulmonary function, so that the blood can absorb a large amount of oxygen in a short period of time, which can greatly increase the body's ability in an instant, and thus temporarily possess physical fitness beyond normal.
However, “Sun Breathing” is not something that everyone can master, nor is it suitable for everyone.
"Sun Breathing" allows the user to radiate heat similar to that of the sun, and can attach that energy directly to the blade, creating a burning crimson blade.
It can make the enemy suffer the pain of being burned by blazing flames. The burned body will collapse and be extremely difficult to heal. It has great lethality to enemies who have or are good at healing abilities.
So far, among these "first-term students", only Yahiko has learned the "Sun Breathing", and the others have all failed after trying, so now they are all exploring their own paths and new schools with various characteristics.
However, the only breathing method school that has been developed so far, apart from the original "Sun Breathing" and "Moon Breathing", is the "Rain Breathing" developed by Yoshitaka based on past experience.
Compared to "Sun Breathing", although "Moon Breathing" also uses a longsword, it is a killing move with high attack speed and large range, and can release a large range of unpredictable sword energy accompanied by a full moon blade.
As for Yoshitaka's "Rain Breathing", it is a breathing style that is derived from the "Moon Breathing" and combines the short sword assassination techniques of the Amegakure Village. It focuses on the frequency of attacks and the speed of the moves is extremely fast, as dense and silent as rain.
Asuto tried to learn all three techniques, but none of them were suitable for him at all.
He is not as light and agile as Yoshitaka, his personality is not as resolute as Yahiko, and he doesn't even like to use long swords like others...
Seeing his classmates walking on their own paths, but he still didn't know where his own path was, made him feel extremely uneasy and anxious.
"You……"
Looking at Asuto in front of him with a determined expression, Asa didn't know what to say for a moment.
He couldn't tell this brat that he was actually a "demon", right? If he hadn't become a "demon", he wouldn't have had the strength he had now.
"Demons" can be quickly formed. As long as they are integrated with "blood", they can possess strength comparable to that of a Chunin and healing abilities that are unattainable by humans. However, there is a price to pay if you want to gain power.
Once you become a "demon", you will be burned by light. Although it will not be fatal as long as you are not exposed to light for a long time, the disgust and fear that comes from deep in your flesh and blood cannot be suppressed, and you will have to live in the shadows for the rest of your life.
Asa and the others had already prepared themselves before becoming "demons", but that was because City of Dawn was in urgent need of strength to protect itself at that time, so compared to becoming a "demon", Asa hoped that his younger brother would take one step at a time.
"…No means no, don't even think about it."
Thinking of this, Asa tightened his face and said in a deep voice: "War is not as simple as you think. If you treat it as a trial ground, you will definitely die without a complete body. Just stay in the academy honestly!"
The two brothers looked at each other, neither willing to give in.
"Asa, Asuto!"
At this moment, the voice of their mother came from the cabin behind them: "The bed is ready, go to bed early!"
"……snort!"
After a moment's silence, Asuto and Asa looked away, snorted coldly, and walked into the cabin.
"You stinky boy! How long have you not showered? Move your feet to the side, the smell is too strong."
"It's just this small piece of land. It can't be moved."
"You're going to get fat!"
The two men lay back to back with each other. Asuto snorted coldly and ignored him. He looked at the full moon rising in the sky through the gap in the black sail.
His mind was like a tangled mess, impossible to cut or sort out. Unconsciously, a feeling of tiredness came over him, and Asuto slowly closed his eyes and fell asleep.
After some time, A faint voice came from his ear, and Asuto, who was half asleep, suddenly woke up. He turned over subconsciously and opened his eyes. Sure enough, the seat next to him was already empty, and there was no one in the cabin.
"Father, Mother, don't worry, I will come back and build a new house with you..."
"Keep an eye on that brat and make sure he studies hard in the academy..."
"Yeah, take care of yourself..."
Asuto opened the curtain and saw Asa saying goodbye to his parents on the distant shore. Although the voice was low, he could hear it clearly.
Without saying a few words, Asa waved his hand, smiled and turned away.
The parents stood there like a reef for a long time, and only returned to the boat after Asa’s back disappeared from their sight.
Asuto could see and hear his mother being supported by his father, sobbing softly with her hand covering her mouth.
Seeing this, Asuto's originally firm determination became heavy. After hesitating for a long time, he lowered his head to look at the standard long sword at his waist, and then turned to look at the hammer that he had used before and had been hanging in the cabin...
He gritted his teeth, took a deep breath, picked up the hammer and put it on his waist, then walked out of the boat.
Plop!
Without hesitation, Asuto knelt on his knees in front of the cabin where his parents lived, and the dull sound echoed throughout the ship.
The faint sobbing sounds in the boat stopped instantly.
"Father, Mother, I..."
Asuto's lips trembled slightly several times, but he couldn't say the words. His throat was extremely dry as if he had swallowed a piece of iron.
It’s hard to say what it was, it seemed like shock or panic, and the air was filled with unspeakable sadness.
Asuto doesn't know how long he knelt, but finally a voice came from the cabin. It was the voice of his father Aqua.
"I already knew that you two brothers have the same stubborn temperament..."
Hearing this, Asuto lowered his head, suddenly choking with sobs, feeling a little ashamed and also afraid.
He finally understood Asa's thoughts.
It’s not that I’m afraid of death, but I’m afraid that if I leave like this, I won’t have the chance to see my parents again. I’m afraid that if the two of us die, my parents will…
The two children who were raised for a lifetime, just only receive a jar filled with ashes of their dead children .
This was really too cruel for the two old people.
"Don't worry, just go ahead."
When Asuto was confused, Aqua said in a deep voice, "Kill the enemies on the battlefield. The day when all the enemies are eliminated is the day for you two brothers to come home... Come back alive."
"Father……"
Asuto's breathing stagnated, he suddenly raised his head, and said with a firm expression: "Yes, we will definitely come back alive together! Please take care!"
As soon as the words fell, the ship fell into silence again, and the figure kneeling in front of the cabin was no longer seen.
Aqua don't know how long it took, but the woman's voice with a slight nasal tone sounded.
"Aren't you leaving yet?"
"…I can't really hide it from you."
"After all, we've been together for most of our lives, how could I not notice... If you want to go, go ahead."
"Okay." In the dim cabin, the scarlet vertical pupils opened and whispered, "For my two children, I should take a risk."
————————
At the same time, in the City of Dawn.
Looking at the black building looming in the morning mist in the distance, Asuto felt nervous and excited at the moment.
The nervousness is naturally due to going to the battlefield.
The reason he was excited was that he was going to Valhalla to meet "Kumokawa-sensei" whom he had not seen for a long time.
Anyone who knows the identity of "Kumokawa-sensei" and anyone who knows that he is a leader will be excited.
Soon, with this uneasy mood, Asuto arrived at Valhalla.
It's amazing enough when viewed from a distance, and even more shocking when viewed up close.
It is now dawn and the air is filled with a sense of oppression.
The hall after the palace door was opened was filled with people standing shoulder to shoulder.
This scene should have been bustling with people, but that was not the case in Asuto's eyes.
There was no noise in the pure black hall, and even the breathing of the crowd was hardly audible. Only the wind outside the hall seemed so bold, blowing softly.
Figures in robes of different colors stood together, with black, blue and white robes flying behind them. They stood quietly and looked up at the huge white monument at the end of the hall. Their faces were shrouded in robes and their expressions could not be seen clearly, but they all looked solemn and dignified.
Many people noticed Asuto, but no one tried to drive him away.
Seeing this, Asuto's mood eased a little and his eyes swept around the hall.
Soon, his gaze froze and stopped at the front of the black-robed team.
There stood six figures of different shapes and sizes. In front of each of them was a long brown table with a scarlet flag with numbers on it. Behind each of them stood a team of several hundred people.
Among the six people, Asuto recognized one of them at a glance.
"...Brother." After seeing the man clearly, he was subconsciously stunned for a moment.
At this moment, Asa was not wearing his usual clothes, but a black robe like the people behind him. The only difference was that there were four scarlet words embroidered on the pure black collar.
——“One of the Lower Moons.”
Asuto could "smell" an extremely terrifying aura of iron, blood, and coldness from him. If he wasn't too familiar with him, Asuto wouldn't even dare to believe that he was the brother who had always liked to bully him since he was a child.
Asa, who was standing far away, seemed to have sensed something. He turned his expressionless and frosty face behind him and made eye contact with Asuto, who was in shock.
The pair of extremely cold and strange scarlet vertical pupils, which were engraved with "Lower Rank" and "One", first shrank, and then instantly became even colder.
Gulp...
Being stared at by that pair of blood-red vertical pupils, Asuto swallowed subconsciously and smiled apologetically with a guilty conscience.
At this moment, a "demon" standing at the end of the team seemed to have received an order. He left the team, walked up to Asuto expressionlessly, and said calmly: "Captain Asa wants to meet you."
After saying that, without waiting for Asuto's response, he turned and walked towards the head of the team.
Asuto hurriedly followed, and only stopped his somewhat flustered steps when he reached Asa's side.
"Big Brother……"
"Shut up."
Asuto was about to say something but was interrupted by Asa in a cold voice.
He stared at the white monument and said expressionlessly, "I don't have time to deal with you now. Now that you are here, just watch carefully."
The words fell without waiting for Asuto to react.
Dong…Dong…Dong…
The sun raised.
The bell of dawn finally rang.
