🕑 Added 2024-10-11 12:13:12 +0000 UTCChapter 190: Going to Valhalla to meet an old friend
After explaining everything to the people present at the meeting, including an overview of strategic goals, force deployment plans, tactics and weapons research and development, intelligence and reconnaissance, logistics support and supply...
The first City of Dawn high-level meeting, which Kumokawa jokingly called the Second Ninja World War Operations Meeting, has come to an end.
But when several people left one after another with their own thoughts and complicated ideas, Kumokawa, who had returned to his seat, called out to Reyū, who was at the back: "Reyū, please stay for a moment."
Hearing this, Reyū, who had already stood up, sat down again subconsciously. The old man turned his head to look at Kumokawa, scratched his head in confusion and said, "Lord Kumokawa, do you have any other instructions?"
Apart from Reyū, Konan stood behind Kumokawa very obediently. Yahiko, who originally wanted to leave with Aki but was pulled by Konan's sleeve, scratched his head.
"Konan."
Without answering Reyū's doubts, Kumokawa looked at Konan behind him and asked with a smile: "How is the development of the God Paper Art going?"
Konan was stunned for a moment as she didn't expect to hear her own name suddenly, but after meeting those blue eyes, she reacted instantly.
She suppressed the throbbing in her heart that had been suppressed for a long time due to hard training, and said in a clear voice: "The production method of the explosive tag is very perfect, and it is very suitable for my secret technique. I have mastered it now."
Yahiko's expression was somewhat confused, but Reyū seemed to have thought of something, with a look of astonishment on his old face.
Looking at the girl who was the most "ordinary" among the three little ones he had picked up, Kumokawa pointed at the paper flowers in the vase in front of him and said with a smile, "Try it."
"Yes."
As if she realized something, Konan became a little excited. She took a deep breath and formed seals with her hands very skillfully.
As a small amount of chakra flowed out, it established a connection with the paper flower frame in the vase.
Click! Click!
The paper flower gradually floated up from the vase, quickly spread out into a piece of paper in the air, and then automatically folded into a paper crane.
Strange black lines gradually appeared and extended on the surface of the paper crane like vines.
In less than a minute, an explosive tag with the word "explosion" written on it...
No, it should be said that an "explosive flower" with the word "explosion" written on its surface appeared out of thin air and was slightly suspended in the air.
Squeak!!
Reyū stood up suddenly, and the chair scraped across the floor, making a harsh noise.
"You..." He looked at Konan in disbelief. Looking at the girl, his whole old face turned red. He said in disbelief, "After you mastered our explosive tag production formula, you can directly 'draw' the explosive tag?!"
Why are explosive tags so expensive that even a jonin has to use them sparingly?
On the one hand, it is because explosive Tag is a "strategic weapon". Note that it is a "strategic weapon", not a "tactical weapon".
All conventional weapons can be considered tactical weapons, but not all tactical weapons are strategic weapons.
Strategic weapons are usually used to carry out strategic strikes and are capable of delivering devastating blows to the enemy's strategic deep targets or the enemy's political, economic centers, military and industrial bases, arsenals, etc.
These weapons usually have enormous destructive power, and have the function and ability to deter and destroy the enemy. They also have a strategic restraining effect on the enemy and can affect the entire course and outcome of the war.
Strictly speaking, the tailed beasts are the biggest "strategic weapons" and an important factor in the strategic balance between countries.
Therefore, for every country, explosive tags are good things that must be accumulated. Even if they are not used in non-war periods, they will still be purchased in large quantities. The supply is insufficient to meet the demand, so the price will naturally be high.
On the other hand, there are not many people who can make explosive tags, and the production of explosive tags involves sealing techniques, which only a few elite ninjas can master.
Of course, the "cloth binding technique" like the Sunagakure Village's, which wraps the enemy with cloth and then seals the enemy with a sealing tag, should not be called a sealing technique. If the Uzumaki clan heard it, they would laugh to the death.
The only content in "cloth binding technique" that actually involves sealing techniques is the sealing tag used to seal the enemy's chakra.
The "explosive tag" can also be considered a type of "sealing tag".
It is necessary to prepare special chakra paper and drawing tools in advance, and then rely on one's own profound chakra control ability, combined with specific seals, spells and rituals, after specific processing and sealing steps, the explosive tag can have the ability to explode.
Even for an expert who specializes in making explosive tags, even with the most advanced explosive tag-making technology in their Kagero Village, it would take half an hour to successfully make a complete low-power explosive tag.
But this girl in front of me can "draw" the explosive tag at will without any special paper and ink or any preparation? !
This is a perfect match for Reyū's original "fantasy" about the "explosive tag production technique"!
"You, do you know what this means?"
Reyū took a few steps forward, looked at Konan with burning eyes, and said excitedly: "If you can cooperate with the experiment..."
Konan was frightened by Reyū's performance. She subconsciously took a few steps back and hid behind Kumokawa, pinching the corner of his clothes and carefully sticking her head out.
"Ahem, don't be afraid, this old man is just like that."
Kumokawa touched Konan's head to comfort her a little, then looked at Reyū, who was so excited that his squinting eyes widened, and said, "Reyū, don't be so excited, sit down and talk."
"……yes."
Reyū finally looked at Konan with fanatical eyes, then nodded and sat down.
Kumokawa handed Ayumi in his arms to Konan, and Konan subconsciously took it and held it in her arms. The furry feeling made her heart soften, and a smile involuntarily appeared on her timid face.
"Meow."
Ayumi opened her sleepy heterochromatic cat eyes, stretched out her cat paws and patted Konan's arm, then closed her eyes again as if to comfort her, not caring at all that her pillow had been replaced by someone else.
"Konan's abilities and secret techniques are quite special, and she has a very good talent in ninjutsu. So in terms of developing her abilities, I didn't ask her to give up studying chakra and ninjutsu like the others."
Kumokawa withdrew his gaze from Konan behind him, looked at Reyū in front of him with burning eyes and said: "Although I know something about chakra and ninjutsu, it's not in-depth, so I can only give her some advice."
"Reyū, can you see the principle behind the technique that Konan is using?"
Hearing this, Reyū's eyes flickered slightly, and he pondered, "It seems that it should be due to her superb control and use of chakra?"
"By injecting chakra into the paper and attaching it to its surface, the paper can be transformed into a tough material similar to chakra paper. It should be possible to transform it into weapons, armor, and traps of various forms and functions?"
As he was talking, Reyū couldn't help but sighed, "Lord Kumokawa, you made the right decision not to let this child specialize in swordsmanship and breathing techniques like others. Otherwise, her talent would have been buried."
"Flexible plasticity, strong practicality, and even disguise. She is simply a natural auxiliary ninja. I have never seen such a way of controlling and using chakra. It is really unique and exquisite."
At this point, he looked at Kumokawa with some curiosity and asked, "Lord Kumokawa, were you the one who inspired her to develop this secret technique that can perfectly utilize and give full play to her own strengths and talents? Also, why is it the 'paper crane'?"
Kumokawa shook his head, smiled and touched Konan's drooping head, and said frankly: "It has little to do with me. It's mainly because Konan likes origami and accidentally discovered her talent. I just reminded her a little bit about the direction of developing her ability when she came to me."
"The fluttering, folding, unfolding, and deformation of paper are the basis, and the hardness, sharpness, and toughness of paper are the advanced ones. The subsequent ability development and application are logical, whether it is simulation, camouflage, shielding, aggregation, combination..."
Hearing Kumokawa say this, Konan, with her head lowered, had her face flushed red.
In fact, when I was folding paper cranes for Brother Kumokawa, I felt that the quality of paper in the Land of Rain was too poor. Then I remembered the chakra refining technique I had learned, and I suddenly had the idea of attaching chakra to paper.
Thinking of this, Konan looked up with her eyes drooped, as if she could see the paper flower above her head.
This was the paper flower that she had given to Kumokawa at the beginning. Afterwards, Kumokawa returned it to her along with the chakra refining technique. He did not let her insert it directly into her hair, but allowed her to keep it attached to her head through the control of chakra.
At that time, she didn't know the significance of this matter. She simply thought that Brother Kumokawa didn't like the paper flowers she gave him and was afraid that she would not want to take back the gift so he made an excuse.
After being frustrated for a while, she thought about practicing chakra refining techniques while folding some other things.
Later, she happily went to find Brother Kumokawa holding the paper cranes. When he asked her why these paper cranes were a little different, she realized what a big thing she had done unintentionally.
This was also the purpose of Kumokawa sending the paper flower back. It would be more accurate to say that she discovered her talent under Kumokawa's guidance rather than discovering it herself.
When Yahiko and Nagato went out with Kumokawa to gain experience, she was left in the City of Dawn but did nothing. Instead, she stayed in her room, developing and extending this secret technique according to the suggestions given by Kumokawa.
Origami requires meticulousness, patience and concentration, not to mention folding it by controlling chakra.
It felt like folding paper with invisible hands. That feeling could drive a person crazy, but it also made her temperament more meticulous, calm and absorbed.
"Paper is a free thing. It can hold anything and is not restricted. But paper is still paper after all. It cannot withstand fire or water. The only problem with this technique is that its lethality is too low."
As if he had thought of something, Kumokawa couldn't help but laugh and said, "I was originally planning to give some explosive tags to Konan to use, and let her mix them into ordinary paper to slightly make up for the shortcomings of her abilities, but I didn't expect..."
Reyū understood instantly and also grinned: "But I didn't expect that the explosive tag production technique developed by our Kagero Village would be so suitable for this girl."
Seeing that he had found a reason for himself, Kumokawa could only smile and nod.
It's impossible to say that he had already guessed and coveted their explosive tag production formula before going to Kagero Village, and then exchanged this formula from Hotaka and gave it to Konan as a gift, right?
"That's why I left you alone."
Kumokawa coughed lightly, looked at Konan beside him, and said in a gentle tone: "Konan, during this period of time, you should go back to the weapons research department with Reyū and try to optimize and develop your abilities."
Hearing this, Konan understood that he wanted to develop her abilities. This made Konan, who had always been left alone, pursed her lips and suppressed the little excitement in her heart.
Although she was still a little afraid of the old man, she nodded obediently, looked at Reyū and said with a crisp smile:"Grandpa Reyū, please take care of me in the future."
"Oh, good, good! Good girl!"
Reyū's old face was almost smiling like a chrysanthemum. He patted his chest and said confidently: "Don't worry, I'm here to make sure you don't get hurt. I can also train you to be a 'humanoid explosive tag production girl'!"
Hearing this, Konan's smile gradually became polite yet awkward.
Humanoid explosive tag producer?
What an ugly name.
"Remember what you said." Kumokawa nodded at Reyū with a smile and said jokingly, "If something happens to this child, your entire equipment research and development department will be punished."
Konan and Yahiko behind him could only hear his smiling tone, but Reyū was looking into those dark blue eyes that were completely devoid of smile.
He instantly realized that Lord Kumokawa was jokingly reminding him of the importance of this girl. He was immediately startled and hurriedly assured: "Please rest assured, even if my old bones are burned to ashes and all those little bastards in the R&D department are killed, I will never let this child get hurt in our territory!"
"Well, I believe you."
Kumokawa nodded with an unchanged smile, took the black cat Ayumi from Konan's arms, and said, "You can go now, remember to be safe."
"Okay." Konan looked at him one last time, then left with Reyū.
In the entire conference room, only Kumokawa and the dazed Yahiko were left.
Yahiko is still stunned by Konan's sudden change.
Some time ago, after returning from Kagero Village in the Land of Mountains, he went to look for Konan, and saw Konan still folding paper in her own room. He thought that she was abandoned by the boss because of her poor talent.
Yahiko tried to comfort Konan at that time, but got no response, only a strange look from Konan.
When he was kicked out, he was still scratching his head, wondering what that familiar look meant.
Now Yahiko finally knew.
That look was the same "look" that Nagato had given him before.
That's the look you give to a fool.
"Come on, brat, it's your turn next."
Kumokawa stood up, patted Yahiko on the head to wake him up, and smiled faintly, "I'll take you to meet some old friends."
"Eh? Old friend? Or some other?" Yahiko rubbed his head for a moment, then blurted out, "Where are we meeting?"
Putting Ayumi on his shoulder, Kumokawa stretched and yawned, "Of course, we're going to Valhalla."
“Oh, Hall of Heroes…”
Yahiko repeated something in a muttered tone, then his eyes suddenly widened in shock, "Hall of Heroes…?!"
