It's ridiculous that he was actually rescued.
This was the first thought that came to Kakuzu's mind, and he naturally began to follow this idea downward.
Ridiculous? Why is it ridiculous?
Is he laughing at the kid who saved him, or is he laughing at himself for being rescued?
Or are both of these things ridiculous to him?
After all, from the day he defected, he abandoned everything, leaving only money as his support. He decided never to show his kindness to others again, and was determined not to believe in the kindness from others.
His ending should be to be alone for the rest of his life, walking on the road of killing with only money as his companion, until he fails and is killed silently. As long as he faces death calmly, he will be forgotten by the world in the end.
Killing countless people, and finally being killed?
Kakuzu frowned and pondered, but shook his head after asking himself.
No no no.
It would be best to raise your own bounty, and then be killed and exchange it for the bounty. The higher the bounty, the more it can prove your worth.
This is his destiny and future.
And this established destiny and future was broken.
Being rescued by a little devil for no apparent reason, that's why he felt ridiculous about it?
"Yes, that's right, that's it." Kakuzu nodded, his brows relaxed slightly, but soon frowned again.
Why did this brat save him?
Thinking of this, Kakuzu subconsciously touched his waist. The scroll where he sealed the bounty was still there and had not been taken away.
So, why?
In his mind, one puzzle was solved, and another puzzle appeared. All kinds of messy thoughts were like boiling water, "boom boom" constantly bubbling up from the depths of his brain, and he couldn't stop it at all.
Looking at Kakuzu who was standing there shaking his head and nodding, Kumokawa's eyes gradually became weird. He looked at the thoughtful old researcher Reyū and said helplessly: "It seems that my 'blood' still has some side effects."
"The subject's initial manifestations are... excessive worry and suspicion?"
Reyū stroked his beard and laughed, "It's amazing. With only the brain and heart left, it can still perform such complex behaviors."
"Unfortunately, biological research is not my specialty, so I can't help you much."
Seeing Kakuzu thinking endlessly, Kumokawa could only shake his head and use [Bloodborne] to control and interrupt his thoughts.
"Um?"
Kakuzu was stunned for a moment and then suddenly came to his senses, realizing his completely suicidal behavior just now. His light green vertical pupils shrank into a line.
In such an unfamiliar environment, why did he think so much just now?
Could it be because...
"That's enough, Mr. Kakuzu."
Without giving Kakuzu any more chance to doubt, Kumokawa interrupted him and said helplessly, "Feel your own body and think about other things later."
Kakuzu also realized his own abnormality at this moment.
He could only suppress the doubts in his heart and feel his body with a frown.
The next moment, his eyes widened suddenly and he blurted out, "What is this?"
He can sense the black lines in his body, which fill almost every gap in his body and have replaced the functions of various internal organs.
But what surprised him was not this. What really surprised him was the extra thing in his body.
In addition to its earth-attributed heart, it actually has a blood-red brain.
Now I actually have a brain?
Since the "Earth Grudge" was implanted in his body, he has never seen any organs other than the heart, but now he actually has a "brain".
Although it was a strange-looking brain, Kakuzu could clearly feel that this was the source of that "vitality", which was twisted into the strange shape of the brain in order to adapt to his body.
And that’s not all…
Kakuzu looked at the black line extending in front of him, and followed the black line to look at the figure standing next to Kumokawa.
No, that can no longer be called a "human", right?
Because that guy's arms have turned into wings and folded at his sides, and his feet have turned into toes like a hawk.
It has four toes, three in front and one in the back, and they are as sharp as blades.
"Have you injured your brain so much that you can't even recognize yourself?"
When Kakuzu was shocked, the man said with pity: "How pitiful, the original."
Main unit?
Kakuzu came to his senses and saw that there was a black line between him and that guy, and that guy's face was somewhat similar to his own.
But looking at that face that was somewhat similar to his own, with that kind of compassionate expression, Kakuzu felt extremely uncomfortable.
"Are you... the heart with wind attribute?" Kakuzu's thoughts raced, with a look of surprise in his eyes.
"That's right." Kumokawa shrugged and added, "You can also call it 'Kazuto', at least that's what it calls itself."
--it.
Indeed, in Kakuzu's perception, the person in front of him who looked like an eagle and called himself "Kazuto" did not have a brain in his body, just as Kumokawa said.
Or, is it sharing a brain with his "original body"?
"Woo." Kazuto raised his wings to wipe away his tears and wailed, "Your already poor brain and IQ are actually shared with me. Maybe there will be three more in the future. What a touching friendship."
Hearing this, Kakuzu frowned, but not in annoyance, but confusion.
What puzzled him was that he did not feel "annoyed".
In the past, if someone insulted him like this, he would feel angry even if he was emotionally indifferent.
But now, he just felt confused.
"What did you do to me?" Kakuzu asked Kumokawa, who had a smile on his face.
"Of course I saved you and gave you some power, but there are a few side effects."
Kumokawa hugged his chest and leaned against the wall. He stretched out his thumb and index finger and put them together, making a "little bit" gesture, and said with a smile: "Thunder, fire, earth, wind, and water. These five hearts represent anger, joy, worry, sorrow, and fear respectively."
"Except for your own earth attribute heart, the other four hearts can split into independent individuals. Their personalities tend to be more like the emotions they represent, just like your original body's 'worry' and the wind attribute clone's 'sorrow' over there."
This is the Five Release clone?
It sounds pretty good?
If I could have four immortal clones, wouldn’t I be able to take on five tasks at the same time, and my money-making efficiency would increase fivefold?
As he was thinking about this, Kakuzu seemed to have thought of something and frowned subconsciously.
"don’t worry."
Before he could open his mouth, Kumokawa, who saw what he was thinking, interrupted him with a smile: "You are still the original body, and you still have control over the heart clones of other attributes. Also, you only have earth and wind attribute hearts now, and you are missing the three hearts of thunder, fire, and water. That's why you, as the original body, are emotionally incomplete."
"As long as you gather five suitable hearts, your relationship will be 'complete'."
At this point, Kumokawa raised his chin and said meaningfully: "Friendly reminder, these five hearts have different special abilities. If you collect all five, there may be different surprises."
Kakuzu's heart moved, as if he sensed something, and he raised his fist in front of his eyes.
Crack! Crack!
The heavy gray rock gradually climbed up my arm from my palm, and I could feel the incomparable power flowing through my arm.
"Earth Release: Earth spear?" Kakuzu blurted out in surprise.
"No, it's a Blood Demon Art." Kumokawa corrected him, "Although it looks a bit similar, you should be able to feel that it is completely different from the feeling you had when you used 'Earth Release: Earth Spear' before."
Earth Release: Earth Spear, although it sounds like a long-range offensive ninjutsu, it actually utilizes the earth attribute chakra flowing in the body to activate instantly, hardening a part of the body like rock, combining offense and defense at the same time.
Later, Kakuzu used this ninjutsu to easily knock down the gate of the Fire Temple that contained a barrier.
But in the final analysis, it is just covering the body with hardened earth.
And the "Blood Demon Art" he is using now...
Kakuzu looked down at the ground beneath his feet, and felt his connection with the earth deepen. It seemed that if he just lifted his foot and stomped it...
"Don't try it here."
Just as Kakuzu raised his foot subconsciously as if thinking about something, Kumokawa, who noticed what he was thinking, suddenly interrupted him.
Kakuzu's foot, which was about to step down, suddenly stopped, even before he reacted, as if his body had received a supreme command.
Realizing this, Kakuzu ignored the stupid bird and said, "Main body, don't you want to ask about my ability?" "Sure enough, no one cares about me anymore." "Woo woo woo" he complained to himself and looked intently at the myriad thoughts in Kumokawa's mind.
After thinking for a moment, he looked around and found himself in an empty, enclosed space. Everything was pure white, and there was a faint smell of burning in the air.
"Where am I?" Kakuzu asked expressionlessly, "What kind of restriction did you place in my body?"
He could feel that the black lines in his body had changed. Although they could still obey his orders as before, the "supreme command authority" was no longer in his hands.
But in the hands of the little devil in front of him.
In other words, it was under the control of that bloody "brain", and that bloody "brain" was some kind of creation derived from the little devil in front of him.
As an immortal who has lived for nearly a hundred years, this was the first time that Kakuzu had seen such bizarre things and events, and he was completely puzzled.
If he had any other emotions now, they must be fear and anger.
"You are in Kagero Village now. I am just borrowing the research room. There is no 'restriction' or anything like that. I am just giving you my 'blood'."
Kumokawa waved his hand, denying his "restriction" statement, and smiled: "Or rather, this is just a little insurance made by the creditor to ensure that the debtor can repay the debt in time."
"…Creditor? Debtor?"
Hearing these two words, Kakuzu instinctively felt uncomfortable and frowned immediately.
"If I remember correctly, Kakuzu-san, your life is worth '80 million ryo'."
Kumokawa stretched out his finger, tapped him gently, and said in a calm tone: "In this case, it should be okay for me, who saved you, to say that I am your creditor, right?"
"...I didn't ask you to save me." Kakuzu was silent for a long time and then spoke.
Kumokawa didn't comment on his answer, but continued to ask with a smile, "So, Mr. Kakuzu, do you think your life is not worth even 80 million ryo?"
He knows Kakuzu's character very well, and has been using words to induce him.
For Kakuzu, who loves money like his life and likes to evaluate values by money, no amount of life-saving grace is as good as tying someone up in the way he believes in most.
What's more, [Montana Max [Major]]'s template ability [Speaker Talent] possesses extremely strong language appeal, which is equivalent to giving Kakuzu, who is now lacking in emotion, a debuff that reduces his intelligence, which is enough to lead his thoughts astray.
As expected, after hearing Kumokawa's words, Kakuzu fell silent again.
"...Kid, I admit you are right, but you seem to underestimate me."
After a moment, he raised his head, took a deep look at Kumokawa, and said in a muffled voice: "My life is worth more than 80 million ryo."
"Oh?" The effect seemed unexpectedly good, which made Kumokawa raise his eyebrows.
"I earn 80 million in bounties a year." Facing the money he was most familiar with and trusted, Kakuzu raised his head and said proudly, "I have been a bounty ninja for 20 years, and during this time I have earned a total of 1.6 billion ryo."
"Even if it's the debt I owe you for saving my life, giving you all these 1.6 billion should be enough to repay it, right?"
Even though he was going to give him all the money he had, there wasn't a trace of heartache on Kakuzu's face.
On the one hand, it is because what he values most is not money. What he values most is the process of making money, the feeling of exchanging corpses for bounties, the process of counting money one by one, and the heavy feeling of carrying the cash box.
Although paying off this "debt" would cost him all the bounty he had worked so hard to earn over the past twenty years, owing debts, especially debts of favor, was undoubtedly more disgusting to Kakuzu than the feeling of losing those useless bills.
Talking about money does hurt feelings, but talking about feelings can also hurt money.
He couldn't even count how many guys he had killed who didn't follow the rules and wanted to get something for free.
Thinking of this, Kakuzu seemed to have thought of something, and said reluctantly: "But of the 1.6 billion, I have spent part of it on food, clothing, housing and other expenses in the past 20 years, about 300 to 400 million. I will pay you back as soon as possible in the future."
"Of course I believe in Mr. Kakuzu's credibility." Kumokawa kept smiling, "But can you give me an exact time?"
Kakuzu went through the nearest missions in his mind, and found that some were either beyond his ability or only small-time tasks, so he couldn't help but frown.
After thinking for a moment, he looked up at Kumokawa, whose eyes were smiling but deep, and said helplessly: "I have a mission to explore the Land of Rain. After completing this mission, there will be a higher reward later. By then..."
But after hearing what Kakuzu said, Kumokawa's expression became strange.
Explore the Land of Rain?
The things about the Amegakure Village and Hanzo have already been on the table of the Five Kage, right?
In this case, the target of the mission is probably not the Amegakure Village and Hanzo, but...
"City of Dawn in the northern part of the Land of Country?"
Hearing the words coming out of Kumokawa's mouth, Kakuzu was obviously stunned for a moment and looked at Kumokawa's somewhat familiar face.
Blue eyes, a sense of maturity that does not match his age, and a smile that is always on his face. Although he is not with the black cat, there is no doubt that he is one of the targets mentioned in the mission.
"...I see. No wonder you looked familiar to me."
A hint of solemnity flashed across his eyes, and he said in a deep tone: "I thought you were some guy with a bounty on his head. So you are the leader of Dawn?"
"The guy who dealt with the former leader of the Amegakure Village, Musashi, and after working with Hanzo to drive out the Sunagakure Village, he divided the Land of Rain and ruled it, so that they won't not interfere with each other?"
------------------------------------------
The inspiration for Kakuzu's blood demon art ability comes from Hantengu, the fourth upper rank from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
