"Mmm! Comfortable~"
In an inn in the Land of Mountains, Yahiko's body was lying in the hot spring, with only his head floating on the water.
My tense nerves gradually relaxed and I felt like my whole body was melting away. All I wanted to do was take a comfortable bath.
However, after quietly and obediently soaking in the water for a few minutes, Yahiko's thoughts drifted back from the paradise, and he couldn't help but think of the purpose of this trip.
He looked up at the other side of the hot spring, where a figure was looming in the mist, and said worriedly, "Boss, we finally got here. Is it okay if we don't go to meet the people from Kagero Village?"
The bathrobe was folded and placed on the clothes table beside him. Kumokawa squinted his eyes and soaked in the hot spring.
"It doesn't matter. The time has not come yet."
He looked up at the stars twinkling in the sky above the open-air hot spring. They were dense and bright, completely unlike the Land of Rain which was always shrouded in rain.
"It's just a mountain away, but the difference in environment is so obvious." Kumokawa said with emotion, "It's really suitable to be used as a 'back garden'."
The Land of Mountain is located in the area bordering the Land of Grass and the Land of Rain.
It is precisely because of the Land's special mountainous terrain that the Land of Grass, which also has a plain terrain, does not have a harsh environment like the Land of Rain, and even has food growing conditions that are only inferior to those of the Land of Fire.
Now, the still young City of Dawn can barely achieve self-sufficiency in the Land of Rain with its improved soilless cultivation technology.
But as its influence gradually expands, soilless cultivation is not the best option after all.
Therefore, the two small plain countries adjacent to the Land of Bird, the Land of Rivers and the Land of Grass, are undoubtedly the best choices as "granaries".
The southern part of the Land of Rain now belongs to Hanzo's territory. Both sides are facing a common enemy and are still in a temporary honeymoon period, so the Land of Rivers adjacent to the south is excluded.
Moreover, the environment of the Land of Rivers is mostly dense jungle, which is more suitable for growing cash crops such as rubber, but obviously not suitable for growing food crops, so we can let it go for now.
The Land of Bird, which is adjacent to the Land of Rain in the west, is also simple. It is just a small country with a small territory and weak strength.
This small country without any ninja village and at the bottom of the ninja world will be the first to bear the brunt of the war as long as it breaks out. If it is lucky, it can survive, but if it is unlucky, the destruction of the country and the ruin of the family is commonplace.
This is not an exaggeration. After the Sengoku Era, the number of countries has become smaller and smaller, and there have been no emerging countries.
In the era of one country, one village, the power of big countries is growing and irresistible. There has never been a single case of a small country turning into a big country in the past few decades.
"Boss, are we going to fight against Takigakure Village this time?" Yahiko asked suddenly, "Are they very strong?"
“…Maybe.”
Kumokawa's thoughts returned, and he smiled noncommittally: "After all, besides the five major ninja villages, it is the only ninja village that legally possesses the tailed beast weapons."
If we don't count the artificial tailed beast "Zero Tail" hidden in the sky above the Land of Rain, on the air fortress.
"Ah?"
Yahiko's surprised voice came: "I heard that because of its remote geographical environment, it was rarely affected by the war of the five major countries. They actually have tailed beasts?"
Although he had learned a lot of book knowledge, he still didn't know enough about this aspect.
"It's not just the Five Great Nations that have tailed beasts. During the first Five Kage Summit, Senju Hashirama gave a tailed beast to Takigakure, a village not belonging to the Five Great Nations."
Kumokawa explained calmly, "In addition to the tailed beasts, that ninja village also has something called Hero Water. After a ninja consumes it, it can greatly increase their chakra."
"There is such a magical thing." Yahiko's eyes lit up, but when he thought of his talent in ninjutsu, he immediately fell into depression again.
"It has little strategic significance." Kumokawa shook his head. "The amplification ability of the Hero Water is indeed very strong, but it will devour the vitality of the user. Although the amplification ability is strong, the side effects are also extremely obvious."
Of course, having said that, the interest is still there.
It would be entirely feasible to find an opportunity and borrow some Hero Water for research.
If you think about it this way, the former Land of Waterfall might have been very close to being a big country. The Takigakure Village in Land of Waterfall is one of the few ninja villages among the small countries besides the five big countries.
Unfortunately, they were ultimately no match for the five major nations, and there must be something seriously wrong with the brains of the Takigakure Village’s top brass.
This can be seen from the fact that Kakuzu was asked to assassinate Senju Hashirama.
Judging from the fact that Kakuzu was able to steal the "Earth's Grudge" and kill all his superiors before his defection, he was at least considered a strong man in Takigakure Village.
As a result, this high-end combat force was severely punished because of the failure of an absolutely impossible assassination mission.
You can punish, but the form is more important than the meaning. There should be a balance between emotion and law, and at least it should not make people feel discouraged.
For loyal ninjas who are ready to sacrifice their lives to fight for the village, merciless and severe punishment is too inhumane. It would be strange if it did not cause hatred and dissatisfaction among the ninjas in the village.
In that situation, the only path Kakuzu could choose was to kill the higher-ups who treated him unfairly and take away the village's forbidden technique 'Earth Grudge'.
However, Kakuzu who failed in the assassination mission was severely punished and almost died in prison. It is also possible that he was involved in the power struggle among the high-ranking officials of Takigakure Village and was treated unfairly.
After all, that was Hashirama Senju…
Anyone with a normal mind would know that it was an impossible task.
If the assassination had been successful, the strongest ninja village now would not be Konoha, but Takigakure Village.
Facts have also proved that the once powerful Takigakure Village has now declined and does not even have a decent and powerful ninja.
Even a small country like Takigakure, which had a strong ninja army, suffered tragically on the road to becoming a big country, let alone the Land of Bird.
It has almost become an unspoken fact that the status of big countries is becoming more stable and that of small countries is becoming poorer.
Therefore, if the relationship between the Land of Earth and the Land of Wind is slightly disrupted in the future, the Land of Birds, which is caught between the two and lacks military strength, will be in trouble.
At that time, we can provide it with humanitarian assistance as a small country, and it will be easy to pull it into our camp and gradually assimilate it into our territory.
The really difficult one should be the Land of Grass, which has a special status.
This small country, which is like a fence-sitter, is, to put it nicely, particularly good at national diplomacy. To put it bluntly, it is a country that follows the wind and curries favor with the powerful.
But this country also has the relatively complete military force of Kusagakure Village, and also has the prison "Hōzuki Castle" which is used to imprison prisoners from various countries.
It is indeed more troublesome to deal with than the Land of Bird.
Of course, when Kumokawa felt troubled, he was not referring to the military strength of the Land of Grass and the Kusagakure Village.
Rather, it was about how to incorporate the Land of Grass into his territory without attracting anyone's attention and make it his "back garden".
It might be possible to expose the City of Dawn's strength and existence now, but it would be too early to reveal its purpose of annexing small countries.
The reason why they lived such a stable and peaceful life in the years before in City of Dawn was because the Amegakure Village was in the open, while they were always lurking in the dark and developing silently.
However, with his gradual expansion of strength, and his previous appearance in front of everyone in the Amegakure Village and cooperation with Hanzo to attack the Sunagakure Village, it is estimated that the information about him and City of Dawn has now been delivered to the desks of the Five Kage.
"Actually, it's not bad." Kumokawa exhaled a puff of white mist and said to himself, "Isn't this what I want?"
Since you can't hide any longer, just stand out openly instead of hiding in a dark sewer like a rat.
Of course, the premise is that the purpose of attempting to annex small countries cannot be exposed.
That's why he set his sights on the Land of Mountain between the Land of Rain and the Land of Grass.
