"...Iwagakure Village?"
Even Kakuzu, who was well-informed and indifferent, couldn't help but sound a little surprised.
"That's right." The person in charge nodded and said frankly, "The person who issued the bounty mission was none other than the Third Tsuchikage Onoki of Iwagakure."
While the other four Kage were keeping secrets about the underground black market and bounty hunters, Ōnoki had secretly established a stable trading relationship with the underground black market.
He often hires bounty hunters from the underground black market to handle things that are inconvenient for Iwagakure to handle.
Although as one of the Five Kage, hiring bounty ninjas, most of whom are rebellious ninjas, may sound undermining the dignity of the Tsuchikage, he is a shrewd man who obviously doesn't care.
"So far, all the bounty hunters who have worked with the Tsuchikage have said that the cooperation was very pleasant and there was no situation of bullying customers."
Looking at Kakuzu who seemed to be thinking deeply, the person in charge explained and then changed the subject: "But not every bounty hunter can accept the missions he sends."
"The first thing to focus on is not strength, but the bounty ninja's credit."
Once the Tsuchikage is sure that the other party's credit is reliable enough, he will selectively select and hire them based on their abilities.
Kakuzu's mission completion rate was 100%, and coupled with his obsession and creed for money, he gradually gained credibility in the underground black market.
"Kakuzu-sama, you can consider whether you want to accept the mission."
The person in charge persuaded sincerely: "Being employed by a wealthy businessman in the ninja world and being employed by one of the Five Kage, the Tsuchikage, are two completely different concepts, because the bounty hunters employed by him have all appreciated in the end without exception."
A bounty hunter hired by Ōnoki must have both credibility and strength, which is equivalent to being labeled as recognized by the Kage.
Naturally, you will be favored by more wealthy businessmen and nobles, and the tasks and bounties you can accept will naturally increase.
Kakuzu was not tempted to agree immediately, but frowned and asked, "What is the mission that the Tsuchikage wants?"
"Assist the Sand Village forces in attacking the supply point of the Rain Village."
The person in charge smiled and replied, "But before that, we need to investigate a force called Akatsuki in the northern part of the Rain Country. You can regard it as a token of allegiance or as a small test."
"If you can pass the test, there will be a more substantial reward waiting for you later."
Hearing this, Kakuzu couldn't help but reveal a look of astonishment on the upper half of his face, and blurted out, "That guy actually wants to hire bounty ninjas to participate in the war?"
The boldness of the Tsuchikage was beyond his expectations.
In the past, they only dealt with some rebellious ninjas and political enemies, but now they dare to let bounty ninjas participate in war operations.
However, this method can indeed effectively reduce the sacrifice rate of the Iwagakure ninjas. While ensuring the credibility of both parties, one only needs to pay money to get an equal or even greater return than expected.
Although he was very excited, Kakuzu hesitated for a moment and finally shook his head.
"No." He exhaled and said indifferently, "That's a war. No matter who it is, they may die, even me."
As an immortal ninja, he strolls at the starting point of the long history, even tracing back to the initial period of the establishment of ninja villages in various countries.
As an elite of Takigakure, he was assigned to carry out the mission to assassinate the first Hokage, Hashirama Senju, but was defeated by Wood Release.
Even if he fled back to the village in a panic facing the danger of death, what awaited him was the stigma of mission failure and severe punishment.
For Kakuzu, who once risked his life for the village, this was undoubtedly an extremely cruel and ruthless betrayal and abandonment.
With intense hatred, Kakuzu escaped from prison and betrayed the village.
He took away the forbidden technique that was regarded as a treasure by the Takigakure Village, and also took away the hearts of all the high-ranking officials of the Takigakure Village.
"Secret Technique: Earth Grudge" allows one to prolong life by taking and replacing the hearts of others and storing them in the body, and to master new chakra properties through the meridians on the hearts of other ninjas.
If this so-called "immortal ninja" had his entire heart destroyed by the enemy at once, he would be killed directly like other people.
There is no doubt that in the smoke of war, it is common to die without an intact body.
"That's it."
Kakuzu stood up without hesitation, picked up the box in front of him and was about to leave.
But when he turned around, the voice of the person in charge came again from behind him.
"Please wait a moment."
Kakuzu's footsteps did not stop at all, but a familiar dull sound came from behind him.
"One hundred million ryo." The person in charge said, "The deposit is thirty million ryo."
Hearing this, Kakuzu, who had already reached the gate, stopped in his tracks, turned to look at the smiling person in charge behind the counter, and said coldly, "Don't think you can control me for just thirty million ryo."
———
"Kakuzu-sama, please keep it. This is your thirty-five million ryo."
Inside the secret room, Kakuzu's breathing became heavy as he looked at the several large boxes of banknotes in front of him.
There's no way, he gave too much.
Swish! Swish!
Kakuzu started to count the money skillfully as if no one was around. His smooth movements and focused eyes were a level of mastery that ordinary people could never achieve.
The person in charge, who knew the other party's quirk, was tactful enough not to disturb him this time.
He just watched Kakuzu counting the money tirelessly, from evening till sunrise.
Kakuzu counted three times in total, without pausing or speeding up, maintaining an unusually even speed without any time lag.
The responsible persons could not help but admire and be moved by Kakuzu's persistence and devotion at this moment.
This person truly regards money as a belief. He enjoys the process of making and counting money, but does not care about the value of money itself.
After all, with the bounties that Kakuzu had earned day and night for twenty or thirty years, he should have retired and lived a fulfilling life as a wealthy man long ago, and he wouldn't have to live on the edge of a knife like he does now.
But Kakuzu did not do so. Apart from his love and faith, he could not think of any other reason.
Bang!
Kakuzu closed the suitcase and exhaled a satisfied breath, his tone full of happiness: "Good, the number is the same this time."
"Don't worry, I will complete the task."
After saying that, he stood up without hesitation, turned around and walked towards the door.
"Please take care, Kakuzu-sama. You're welcome to come again next time."
The person in charge smiled and bowed to Kakuzu's departing back, paying respect to this bounty hunter who had a connection with money.
Click.
A secret door appeared in the weed-covered toilet, and Kakuzu came out carrying two large suitcases.
He looked at the sun rising in the distance. It was already morning, but the temperature outside was still bone-chillingly cold.
Kakuzu subconsciously tightened the suitcase in his hands, feeling the heavy weight of the money. The chill seemed to be dispelled a little, and his body and heart became hot.
"Sure enough, in this cold world full of lies, only money can make me feel warm." He squinted his eyes and sighed.
The Land of Rain, the Hidden Rain Village...
Oh yeah, and what about "Akatsuki"?
Great, let's go check it out first.
