It was ten o'clock in the morning, close to noon, in the temporary Hokage's office.
The warm sunlight shone onto the mahogany table through the half-open window, but was completely blocked by the mountain of documents piled up together.
Rustling.
Sarutobi Hiruzen was sitting on a chair, flipping through the documents on the table with one hand and holding his pipe with the other hand.
"Whosh!"
Sarutobi Hiruzen put the cigarette holder to his lips, the tobacco in the cigarette butt glowed slightly, a few wisps of white smoke rose as he puffed and the fine smoke was carried out of the window by the wind.
"Cough! Cough cough!"
Sarutobi Hiruzen took a deep breath and choked. He frowned and coughed slightly hoarsely.
But after the itchy feeling in his throat passed, he still took a puff without stopping.
"Hiruzen, have you been smoking too much lately?"
Mitokado Homura sat on a chair against the wall on the other side, far away from the window that was constantly sucking out smoke and dust, and reminded Sarutobi Hiruzen: "Although I know you are under a lot of pressure now, you should also pay a little attention to your health, right?"
"Yes, although I don't want to add any more pressure to you, you also have to take care of yourself and your family."
Utane Koharu, who was sitting next to Mitokado Homura, also nodded and sighed, "You've been staying here all this time and haven't even gone home. You didn't even go back for Asuma's first birthday."
"Biwako has complained to me several times, and has been trying to get me to persuade you, both overtly and covertly."
Sarutobi Hiruzen acted as if he didn't hear it, his face still full of sorrow.
He has become what he is now since the invasion of the Land of Sky not long ago.
Although he is in his forties, he looks like he is in his fifties or sixties, as if he has aged by ten years.
The pipe that used to be a hobby of his has now become a habit that he cannot let go of, and he coughs more and more often.
It's like a car that looks bright and shiny on the outside, but the gears inside are rotten and creaking under the heavy load, and it has an old smell all over it.
"...Ahem, let's not talk about these things for now."
After a long silence, Sarutobi Hiruzen coughed, and then said in a deep voice: "After Musashi stepped down, Hanzo took over, and he officially declared war on the Land of Wind. What do you think about this?"
The Land of Rain, which had always been weak and vulnerable like the Land of Grass, actually took the initiative to intervene in the war and openly declared war on a big country. This news caught many forces in the ninja world by surprise.
As a small country destined to become a battlefield for big countries, the Land of Rain has been subject to economic, diplomatic and military restrictions from big countries for many years. Big countries and ninja villages have never taken such a small country seriously.
In the past, even if a small country attacked a big country, it was basically secretly assisting the other big country and acting as cannon fodder for the big country.
Hanzo was the first person to stand up and openly challenge the majesty of a big country.
Even his attitude was very tough, with no intention of giving in at all.
It directly exposes the various atrocities committed by the Sunagakure Village in the Land of Rain, and the inhumane massacre of the villages in the Land of Rain in order to plunder supplies, which completely touches the most basic moral bottom line of being a human being.
Rather than being a declaration of war, the content of the declaration of war in the Land of Rain is more of a curse on the Sunagakure Village, pointing fingers at the daimyo and the Third Kazekage and scolding them.
"What an unexpected development." As if he suddenly thought of something, Mitokado Homura could not help but smile, "The Daimyo of the Land of Wind and the Third Kazekage should be very angry now."
He could even imagine the furious looks of the Third Kazekage and the Daimyo of the Land of Wind.
This provocation from a small country is undoubtedly a great humiliation for them.
What's more, it was the ninja from this small country who seriously injured their front-line commander and temporarily interrupted their offensive.
It can be predicted that Hanzo and Amegakure will inevitably face the joint revenge of the Kazekage and the Daimyo.
"There's nothing to be happy about." Sarutobi Hiruzen lowered his head and looked at the documents, and said in a deep voice, "Our current situation is not much better."
He is so worried now.
The attack on Konoha was so loud that it was impossible to completely block the news.
The Land of Earth is now ready to make a move, with the intention of giving the fallen dog a beating. Although the attitude of the Land of Thunder is unclear, it is probably also eyeing it covetously.
Their new Eight-Tails Jinchūriki is indeed not useful yet, but isn't Konoha's Nine-Tails Jinchūriki also useless now?
At least, Kumogakure still has Two-Tails Jinchuriki.
In this way, once the war really breaks out, a third front will have to be opened up, or even four fronts will be fought at the same time.
All we can do now is pray that the Land of Rain can hold on to the end and never give way to those jackals, tigers and leopards.
But, how is that possible?
Ultimately, it was because Sunagakure went too far that the daimyo and the Amegakure Village were forced into a corner, otherwise they would not dare to resist Sunagakure Village.
It is already difficult for them to face Sunagakure Village now. If Iwagakure Village really takes action, Amegakure Village will not be able to withstand its threats and inducements.
After all, the Land of Rain and the Rain Ninja hate the Land of Wind and the Sunagakure Village, and they don't have any major conflicts with the Land of Earth. The worst that can happen is that they will be robbed and some civilians will be accidentally injured. As long as the Iwagakure Village doesn't massacre like the Sunagakure Village, there will be nothing to worry about.
"Tsk." When he thought of this, Sarutobi Hiruzen felt upset. He smoked his cigarette "puff puff" and let himself be surrounded by the smoke.
Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura looked at each other and didn't know how to comfort each other for a moment.
The office fell into silence again.
All that could be heard was the sound of shuffling papers, Sarutobi Hiruzen smoking, and a little bit of wind blowing in.
The quiet environment makes people feel a little sleepy, but the silence will always be broken.
Bang!
There was an unexpected knock on the door, and before Sarutobi Hiruzen could speak, he heard the voice outside.
"Third Hokage-sama." The man's tone was a little impatient, "Uzumaki Mito has woken up, but Jonin Tsunade knocked out the guard and entered the ward. When we found it, the ward had been sealed off by a barrier."
"What?!"
"How dare Tsunade do this?!"
As soon as these words were spoken, the expressions of Mitokado Homura and others changed instantly.
At the same time, a sharp sound was heard in their ears. The two turned their heads subconsciously and saw Sarutobi Hiruzen standing up with a dark face.
Apparently, he realized what Mito was planning to do.
But this is definitely not the result he wants to see.
————————-
Half an hour ago, in a ward of Konoha Hospital.
Creak.
Tsunade, who was criticized by Jiraiya for her carelessness, opened the door with a voice so soft that it was almost inaudible.
Looking up, in front of the only window in the white ward, there stood a thin, slightly hunched figure, looking down quietly at the streets of Konoha outside.
There were faint noisy voices outside the window, and from time to time there were crackling sounds of burning and the collapse of huge objects. Those who didn't know would think they were doing demolition work, but in fact what they were doing was no different from this. After all, any new building would require the demolition of the original ruins.
What Uzumaki Mito saw was Konoha that seemed to be shrouded in a faint black smoke. Even with the sunshine and the remaining green plants swaying, it could not cover up the crisis that almost affected half of Konoha a few days ago.
A large number of green plants were burned, leaving only black shells. The gray ashes were like early snow, covering every corner of Konoha. The buildings were covered with cracks or were missing limbs.
The worse ones, such as the Hokage Building, only ruins were left of it.
While the better ones, such as the Ninja School or the Konoha Hospital.
The former had several large holes in it, while the latter was half burned. After rescue efforts, the other half was left unburned. The overall look has a bit of an Impressionist art style that combines lushness and withering to highlight the contrast.
And at least half of everything in front of her was done by her.
In Uzumaki Mito's perception, the entire Konoha was filled with malice.
It was as if it was cutting countless tiny wounds on her body, squeezing into her flowing blood with an extremely sticky force, turning her entire body into a mass of hatred.
"Grandma Mito..." Tsunade called softly after closing the door gently.
But the figure standing in front of the window trembled, as if waking up from a nightmare, and as if entering a new nightmare.
"vomit!"
Uzumaki Mito knelt on the ground for no reason, and the nauseous vomiting sound was simply horrifying.
A large amount of pale yellow water gushed out, as if it was going to vomit out all the internal organs.
