Two consecutive mental stimulations made Nagato a little dazed deep in another tower.
Alone in the darkness, he was stunned for a while, and the sluggishness on his thin face gradually turned into raging anger, which immediately manifested itself in Deva Path, who was "remotely controlled" by him.
"Are you teasing me?"
These words were spoken through gritted teeth, and coupled with Deva Path's deep voice, the threat was palpable.
Since Yahiko's death, he and Konan have only two achievements that they are proud of -
one is the establishment of the Akatsuki organization, and the other is the takeover of Amegakure Village.
But this Rengoku Kyojuro, even if he refused to join the "Akatsuki" twice in a row, now he still looks down on the Amegakure Village under their rule?
Doesn't this mean that in Rengoku Kyojuro's heart, the achievements he is secretly proud of are not worth mentioning at all?
If Kyojuro was just a casual passerby, Pain would naturally be too lazy to pay attention to his opinion.
However, both he and Konan attached great importance to this child who had a huge influence in the Land of Rain, so they cared very much about Kyojuro's evaluation. They really couldn't say "childish words" and laugh it off.
What he just heard made Pain, who was immersed in a huge sense of accomplishment not long ago, unable to accept it.
Pain, who had not been violated by anyone in the past ten years, was furious.
At the moment, he didn't directly use Shinra Tensei to drive out this brat who was bragging. It was simply because of his young age and his status as a person born in the Land of Rain.
But Kyojuro was only one step away from touching the limit of his endurance.
"I never tease others, I just told the truth!"
Kyojuro was not moved by the anger shown by the other party. He sat upright as usual, without any hint of malice.
"If Amegakure Village still intends to maintain this status quo, I really can't sincerely advise everyone to move here and settle down, because I understand their thoughts!"
Kyojuro is not a righteous man. Most of the time, he is quite considerate of others feelings when he speaks.
But this time, he really saw a big hidden danger in this village, so he spoke out without any modification.
Kyojuro would not do such a thing by making others misunderstand him in a major matter.
However, as before, he didn't mean any offense when he spoke, and he still had a slight smile on his face.
To Pain, however, that smile looked like a blatant taunt, tripping over his sensitive nerves.
Just when Pain wanted to do something, Konan stood up before him.
"I don't understand!"
The "angel" looked more serious than ever before, and asked like a prosecutor who was tricked by the defense lawyer: "Are you saying that letting them live in Amegakure Village, which has sufficient supplies, is worse than that place? Where they can only eat berries and mushrooms to satisfy their hunger?"
[I haven't seen Konan so angry for a long time. ]
Nagato sighed inwardly, and the anger in his heart suddenly disappeared.
He also understood why Konan was angry.
During this time, Konan was actually the village chief of Amegakure Village.
Rengoku Kyojuro just said that Amegakure Village is not suitable for living. He is undoubtedly directly accusing Konan of not managing this place well.
Thinking of this, he manipulated Pain into silence, intending to see what Kyojuro would say.
"Please answer some of my questions first!"
Kyojuro sensed that Pain's malice had subsided slightly, so he no longer guarded against him, but asked directly to Konan: "I have heard that because of the toxicity in the water source, Due to the soil erosion caused by rainfall, the Land of Rain has been unable to provide food on its own since the Second Ninja War. Since a large number of villages outside the Hidden Rain Village were abandoned, the ninjas led by Hanzo accepted employment and almost became this country's only source of income is Missions, isn't that true?"
Konan and Pain looked at each other, with a little surprise. They didn't expect Kyojuro to study such a problem at such a young age.
In fact, given the scope of Kyojuro's personal interests, he would not be able to say such a thing.
But there was a Sarutobi Hiruzen in Konoha who trained him as the successor of Hokage.
Every time he chatted with the old man who managed a village of more than 100,000 people, he would gain some insights, not to mention that Sarutobi Hiruzen did this intentionally.
"That's right."
Konan asked, "But what does this have to do with us now..."
"Please listen to me first!"
Kyojuro made a calm gesture.
Konan felt a little calmer and sat down directly next to him.
"In short, the demographic structure of Amegakure Village has been very special since then.”
"Because ninjas have become the country's sole economic pillar, and food is completely dependent on purchasing from foreign countries. The only way for civilians to survive is to serve ninjas. In this village, except for some people who work in the power plant, the rest of the civilians either become domestic servants of ninjas, or serve the ninjas in this village in other ways, such as restaurants, custom shops, casinos and bathhouses.”
"In other words, the situation in Rain Hidden Village is that for ninjas, any civilian can be replaced at will; and the civilians cannot survive without ninjas! And this has also led to the country of rain only It requires a small number of civilians to operate, and those extra civilians living outside Amegakure Village have become a factor of instability. This is why Hanzo raised a butcher's knife against them! And all of this is simply because the role they played in this country is not important at all!"
This is what Sarutobi Hiruzen said, the essential difference between the Rain Country and other big countries that - the ninjas do not need their own civilians to produce food and goods for support, so naturally they do not need In a relatively harmonious "military-civilian" relationship like Konoha's, wanting to fight or kill depends entirely on the ninja's joy and anger.
Konan and Pain thought for a while and nodded in unison.
"So, let me ask you two, since you replaced Hanzo, what role have the civilians of the Rain Country played?"
After a brief silence, Konan's lips opened slightly and her face turned slightly pale.
Kyojuro nodded heavily: "You should have thought of it! Because we have to keep the secret of Sanshouo no Hanzo's death, Amegakure Village only uses trustworthy people, so only a few ninjas are working. From what I judged after walking in the village, except for some civilians who are responsible for repairing the damaged houses and--"
Kyojuro pointed to the elevator on the opposite side of the corridor, "except for the workers working in the power plant, most ninjas and civilians are idle at home.! This situation should have lasted for two months, and I don’t know how long it will last! I want to ask, how many residents are there in Amegakure Village now? How many ninjas and how many civilians are there?"
Konan and Pain exchanged glances, and then she immediately answered: "Fifteen hundred ninjas, about eight thousand civilians, less than ten thousand people in total..."
Then she added: "But we have plenty of food and vegetables.. Even if the number of people doubles again, we can still ensure that everyone can have enough to eat."
"I can see that you are very serious about getting rid of everyone hunger!"
Kyojuro's words made Konan's face soften, " So, where does the food come from?"
"...the members of Akatsuki make money, and then go to other countries to exchange it for food and bring it back. There is a dedicated person in charge."
She is in charge of the logistics of Amegakure Village, but it is up to Kakuzu to bring things.
He is old, has many connections, and has a reputation for being evil. He can always find a way to buy (rob?) the most food with the least money.
Thinking of this, she emphasized: "Although most people in the village have no jobs, we still give enough food to everyone. When more and more people can be trusted, the situation will get better."
"I know you have good intentions, but the actual situation is-"
Kyojuro pointed to the ground and said the key.
"In the past, the common people in Amegakure Village had to rely on ninjas to live; but now, everyone - whether they are civilians or ninjas, have to rely on the charity of you two people to live! It seems that everyone is full of food and drink. They no longer worry about being bullied, but their insignificance in this village has not changed!”
"The master of this village used to be Hanzo and the ninjas were loyal to him, but now, there are two of you.”
"Even if you can trust more and more ninjas, and after a while, ninjas can support this country again, the status of civilians will still not change! In the eyes of ninjas, they are still dispensable. Especially In the village I represent, there are many young and old people among them. Not to mention serving ninjas, they even need others to take care of them. After coming here, in the eyes of others, they will become those who can get it without a job. The burden of food will lead to more serious hostility!"
Seeing Konan's face become more solemn, Kyojuro brought the topic back.
"Lord Angel, this is why even when you went to the village to invite everyone to Amegakure Village, but they hesitated."
"Now that Hanzo is dead, their safety is almost no longer a problem. They collect berries and mushrooms in the forest. Although the food is simple, it is enough to support themselves. They themselves are the masters of the village. With the current population, they can sustain it for another ten years without much pressure until the next generation is born! But if they go to Amegakure Village, they will certainly have more choices, but the vital lifeline of food is in the hands of outsiders, that is, the two of you. In the future, it will be in the hands of those more important ninjas. But in this way, it's just like returning to the past. How is it different from livestock waiting to be slaughtered..."
“You two, if we don't solve this basic problem, I can't persuade them to move here! "
Hearing this, Konan realized that when they managed this country, they had only given away food and security from a high position, but did not discover the unstable factors hidden in the population structure. She couldn't help but pick her fingers in confusion.
This is the reason why she didn't agree with killing all the senior members of Amegakure at the beginning.
She didn't even think about the details Kyojuro said. Managing a village/city is far more complicated than she thought.
The two of them were pure laymen, just doing It was just the most superficial action.
On the contrary, Pain, after being hit one after another, said in a somewhat impatient tone: "After all, you still don't believe that we will treat them well!”
"As long as I am here, nothing like what you said will happen. All the people of the Kingdom of Rain are the people of God. I will never let the ninjas do whatever they want just because civilians are not that important. In my eyes, there is not much difference between ordinary people and ninjas."
Speaking of this, Pain said seriously: "I will treat everyone equally. This is the promise of 'God', and the ninjas of the Land of Rain must also obey it, without any exceptions.!"
Otherwise, what awaits those people is his severe sanctions!
Pain really thought so, so he spoke loudly.
This is the characteristic of Pain and most of the powerful people whose power suddenly increased. They think that they can use their strength to solve all difficulties, use their strength to simplify complex problems, and act rashly to show their ideal scenes without thinking about anything else.
"I know you are very powerful! You have the eyes of the legendary Sage of Six Paths. You are indeed unimaginably powerful!"
Kyojuro's words made Pain feel a little comfortable, and he finally heard a compliment about him.
"I didn't expect you to actually know the origin of these eyes."
Pain glanced at Kyojuro approvingly in return for the compliment he just received.
But he would soon regret it.
"But as far as I know, the Sage of Six Paths will also die one day."
Rengoku Kyojuro saw the frozen expressions of Pain and Konan at the same time, but he still kept talking.
"The only way the situation you envision can be maintained is if you can always manage this country, but this is obviously impossible! Please see the reality clearly before making a decision!"
He is someone who has experienced the Meiji Restoration.
Many idealized policies are thought to lack foundation and can only be maintained because the person presiding over them is alive or in power.
But once they die or step down, things will immediately change.
"Kyojuro, stop talking!"
Seeing Pain suddenly fall into eerie silence over there, Konan quickly stopped Kyojuro from continuing.
She stood up and stood between Kyojuro and Pain. Then with a comforting look, she stretched out her right hand to reach Pain's shoulder, but Pain held her wrist in mid-air.
"Are you questioning the power of 'god'?"
Pain pulled Konan away slightly roughly and asked almost word for word: "Rengoku Kyojuro."
Konan was held by Pain's wrist and She was speechless and could only wink at Kyojuro, but the latter just smiled back.
"I'm just seeking truth from facts!"
Kyojuro ignored Konan's reminder and said his thoughts sincerely without blinking: "You may be killed, you may be overthrown, no one can accurately Predict the future!"
[Even the lord's ability to foresee is not always effective. 】
Right now, anyone who looks at Kyojuro's expression knows that he really thinks so.
This Pain is very strong, but not so powerful that he has no opponent.
When he opened Mind's Eye of the Kagura in Konoha, he had detected at least two ninjas who could rival Pain, so he had such an idea.
"Really, I understand..."
After hearing this, Pain seemed to sigh, "Because of your age and what you have done for the Kingdom of Rain in the past two years, I have only tolerated you until now. "
He let go of Konan's wrist, and then with a gentle sweep, an invisible force immediately pushed her down onto the seat next to her, and drove her back slowly, submerging her into the surrounding darkness.
"But maybe it was my mercilessness in our last encounter that caused a genius like you to have a wrong estimate of the power of God. This was my negligence..."
["My" mercilessness? ]
Rengoku Kyojuro caught a keyword.
The last time he met the circle-eyed person who could summon monsters was definitely not the person in front of him. Why did he say this?
What kind of relationship is between them?
Without giving him time to continue, Pain slowly stood up.
"In that case, I don't need to waste any more words.”
"Experience it well. The power of God is definitely not something you can observe with just your ordinary eyes!”
"Rengoku Kyojuro... If you can survive this blow, you will be qualified to continue talking to me."
[Hey! Kyojuro! careful! 】
Suddenly, the nine-tailed chakra in Kyojuro's belly vibrated manically, launching the most turbulent reminder in its history.
Pain stared at Kyojuro and suddenly became alert, his cold eyes suddenly widened without warning, and he spat out two words very clearly -
"Shinra Tensei.”
