"Shisui, something like this happened suddenly, and the village is also very sad."
At night, while Uchiha Fugaku was talking to Cui and Gan who had woken up, another conversation was taking place in the Hokage's office.
"No matter what the police guessed, I assure you on the Hokage's honor that this matter can never be the result of the village's instructions."
"The Uchiha Flame Team must have encountered an unexpected enemy. At present, all patrols in the Country of Fire are looking for traces of the two children, Flame and Wen. But everyone knows that there have been disappearances in the past, and their chance of survival is less than 5%."
"As a ninja, if you have a mission, you will have to sacrifice. Although it was Uchiha Wen's first time going out, I believe that you who have experienced that war should be able to understand that this kind of situation is not uncommon."
When Sarutobi Hiruzen said this, he put his hands on his desk, his face still filled with anger and worry that his territory had been invaded, but his tone was more confident and magnanimous than ever before.
First of all, he would not send someone to do it himself.
Ever since Minato's sacrifice and Orochimaru's defection, he had tried his best to avoid any serious losses to the village, even to the point where Danzo said he was weak. He would never be the first to provoke a dispute unless necessary.
Furthermore, since Naruto's tailed beast chakra was leaked last time, all exits from the root have been under his surveillance 24 hours a day. None of the root ninjas who had the ability to kill Uchiha Flame or could directly take him away were out last night.
What's more, if it were Danzo's people, there wouldn't be two people left alive at all.
Therefore, the Third Hokage can almost conclude that this incident was caused by Konoha's enemies, and the target should not be Uchiha, but Konoha.
Now he only hopes that the Uchiha side can also understand this, so as to avoid the escalation of hostility and the expansion of the situation, so as not to give opportunities to the enemies hiding in the dark.
"Yes, I understand that ninjas will inevitably make sacrifices, and there will be no exceptions just because they are young or inexperienced."
Uchiha Shisui knelt on one knee behind Sarutobi Hiruzen, his bright eyes lowered slightly.
"It's just that the Flame team encountered a battle. It's still unclear whether the enemy met them by chance or the enemy knew their route of action in advance."
"In addition, the place where they happened is only a day's journey from Konoha, and there are no less than ten patrol troops around. I can also understand the reason why the people of the clan are doubtful. They can accept the sacrifice of their descendants, but they cannot accept that this kind of sacrifice actually happened. So close to the village.”
The implication of his words is that even if it was not done by the ninjas in the village, there should be spies inside Konoha who are colluding with foreign enemies, and their status will not be very low.
Otherwise, how could the so-called enemy bypass the eyes and ears of all patrols and come to the hinterland of the Fire Country to commit crimes.
You know, almost every patrol team has a perceptive ninja from the Hyuga or Inuzuka clan. If he wants to accurately avoid the detection of all patrol teams, even he dare not say that he will be able to do it unless he understands each in detail. The departure time and traveling speed of the patrol team.
In this way, the number of spies can almost be classified into thirty people.
“That may be the case."
"So Shisui, what are you going to do?"
Third Hokage turned around slowly, with a hint of inquiry in his eyes. In this incident, as the only Uchiha who may understand the village's position, Shisui's attitude is crucial.
"Hokage-sama, please allow me to resign from ANBU early."
Shisui's words made the Third Hokage's face stiffen slightly. His fingers that were flicking on the table retracted into his sleeves. He obviously felt the crisis. For a moment, he thought Shisui was trying to draw a clear line between himself and the village.
If even Uchiha Shisui, who has always been able to transcend family concepts, refuses to believe him, then it is almost a foregone conclusion what other Uchiha will think.
At this point in time when the situation was unclear and hidden enemies were waiting for him, once the village clashed with the Uchiha, he could not imagine how much damage it would cause to Konoha.
At least, the apparent title of the leader of the five great ninja villages will never be maintained.
However, Shisui's next words suddenly relaxed his nervous mood.
"I was originally planning to go on a long-term mission to patrol the border of the Kingdom of Water after Itachi entered ANBU. I'm afraid I have to ask Hokage-sama for some grace."
Shisui's voice was gentle and calm, quickly smoothing the wrinkles in the Third Hokage's heart.
"I hope Lord Hokage will allow me to represent both the village and the Uchiha to investigate this matter clearly. Only if an Uchiha personally presides over the investigation of this matter, can the final result convince the clan. But in order To prevent unnecessary conflicts, it’s best for me to do it myself.”
"...Then where do you plan to start investigating?"
"Please Hokage-sama, please give me sufficient authority so that I can check all the activity records of the Anbu, the village jounin and the barrier class in the recent period."
Shisui paused, "After completing the preliminary screening, I plan to go to the location of the incident to conduct a careful search. I hope that by then, patrols from all over the Land of Fire will also be able to accept my review."
"..."
The Third Hokage pondered for a while, and finally the old god nodded, hiding the faint surprise in his eyes.
In fact, it doesn't matter whether Shisui can find out the results. As long as he is not in the village and not in the Uchiha clan for a day, Uchiha will never act rashly without the best master in the clan.
Correspondingly, because Shisui, the Anbu elite who has a lot of information about the village, is not in Konoha, even Danzo, who is hostile to Uchiha, will not say anything to "strike first" to embarrass him.
Both sides will throw rat weapons, which is the result Sarutobi Hiruzen wants most.
"That's all fine. Do you have anything else to ask for?"
The Third Hokage agreed wholeheartedly, only asking Uchiha to leave the village as soon as possible after undergoing screening, and even leave the village as long as possible.
"At present, apart from the missing Flame and Wen, among the clan, only Uchiha Itachi is still performing tasks outside the village."
"If the enemy's target is not the village, but Uchiha, then Itachi may also face unexpected dangers. As the eldest son of the Fugaku clan leader, once an accident happens to him, things may immediately become out of control."
Uchiha Shisui then revealed his other purpose, "Lord Hokage, I need to know his specific location. Can you tell me the mission he is performing?"
The Third Hokage looked directly into Shisui's clear and clear eyes, seeming to have some doubts, but finally agreed.
…
Clan land, Uchiha Fugaku family.
Even though it was already late at night when Fugaku returned from the hospital, all the jonin in the clan were sitting on the training ground in his backyard.
There was an extremely strong and cold low-pressure cyclone gathering on their bodies, as if it would explode into a terrifying storm at the slightest touch.
The mothers of Uchiha Gan, Wen, and Cui stayed in the Japanese room with Uchiha Mikoto. Except for Uchiha Gan's mother, who was not a ninja, so she covered her face and sobbed from time to time, the other two mothers had solemn faces. It seems that she is ready to hear bad news.
"Everyone."
Fugaku didn't even change his shoes and walked directly to the outdoor terrace.
More than a hundred eyes stared at his face without blinking, waiting to hear the answers he got from the two survivors.
"The operation is over. Fortunately, the two children, Uchiha Gan and Uchiha Choi, are fine and will be able to move freely soon."
He paused, as if waiting for a reaction from his clan. But there were only dozens of motionless statues in front of them, and their dark eyes were deeper than the bruised night.
"According to their own statement, they heard an explosion when they went out to check the surrounding environment and set up traps, and saw the light of the fire release ninjutsu, so they immediately withdrew. As a result, two people were less than twenty meters away from the gathering place. They were swept away by a sudden mudflow at the same time, and then pushed down the hillside, rolled all the way, and finally fell into the cliff. This is not much different from the judgment of the patrol team."
Fugaku shook his head regretfully, "In other words, what happened to Flame and Wen, they didn't see anything, and they don't know anything."
The room is on the roof of the second floor.
Sasuke grabbed Giyu's arm tightly - the latter was called back by Shisui's clone. After what happened, it was too dangerous to stay outside the Konoha barrier.
"Giyu, Wen, will nothing happen him?"
Sasuke heard his father's words clearly, his face was as white as paper, and his lips were slightly blue due to the fear of losing his friend.
Last year, during the month when Uchiha Itachi went to Sand Hidden Village to take the chunin exam, Cui ,Wen and Gan, the three were the first to train with him.
Uchiha Wen was the gentlest of the three. Every time he went back to the clan to get practice tools or buy something, everyone would instruct him and Giyu to go together.
Although during this period, Sasuke had been studying hard in the police force and rarely had the chance to meet each other, it was the first time for Sasuke that a person he was familiar with in the past suddenly became a missing person.
Giyu heard Sasuke's question clearly.
But in the past, if he noticed that civilians or demon slayers were missing - ninety percent of the time, they were already dead.
His face was as dark as a dark lake, and his long-standing memory was extinguished. What he thought he would never experience again actually happened again.
Only this time, he knew that the initiator was probably not a demon, but a person with a complicated purpose; the one who disappeared was not a stranger, but a friend who had invited him to the banquet when he met before, a child under thirteen years old.
That was the age when he joined the Demon Slayer Corps and started training.
Even Uchiha Flame, who was not very familiar with him, had helped him and Naruto a lot, and he was only sixteen years old now.
For the first time, he was not looking at the clansmen under the roof with the eyes of Giyu Tomioka, but feeling the same as Giyu Uchiha.
He also wanted to know the truth, he also wanted to know the whereabouts of the two children, and tried to avoid the fact that they might be dead.
Below, as expected by Uchiha Fugaku, when they heard that the only two "witnesses" knew nothing about the incident, the clan fell into violent anger.
This means that it is almost impossible to find the whereabouts of the other two.
"Don't think about it anymore! Flame is the most outstanding genius in the clan after Shisui and Itachi. He must have been targeted for this reason!"
"The Third Hokage once allowed Orochimaru to conduct human experiments in the village. At that time, a member of the same clan disappeared! This must be a similar reason at that time!"
"To take people away under the eyes of more than a dozen patrols less than a day's journey from the village, who else but the ANBU of Konoha can do it!"
"Go directly to the Hokage building and force them to hand them over!"
"Use illusions on those patrol members, we want to hear the truth from them!"
As the saying goes, groups extinguish individual wisdom. This is even more applicable to the Uchiha clan, who are already very paranoid in character.
In this atmosphere of excitement, like a volcano erupting, even the calmest group of Uchiha jounin gradually became red-faced, breathing hurriedly, and joined in the call to "surround the Hokage Building" in the middle.
The disappearance of Flame and Uchiha Wen was at best a trigger. What really made them angry to such an extent was that the clan's history as the founders of Konoha had been covered up; it was since the Nine-Tails Rebellion six years ago. Prejudice and hostility began to increase sharply; it was the police who worked hard but did not get the recognition and gratitude they deserved...
They had been suppressed and silent until today, when the first Uchiha junior genius to become a Jonin in two years suddenly disappeared without a trace, and the fuse was really ignited.
Sasuke was frightened by the momentum of his clan, and took a step back with empty eyes, then sat down directly on the roof. Giyu tried his best to calm down, hoping to do something for the two missing children instead of getting involved in the torrent of anger and causing more problems.
Fortunately, Uchiha Shisui came out from around the corner, causing everyone's anxious momentum to suddenly stop.
But before the clan could turn their guns and attack him, Shisui had already calmly said to Fugaku: "Clan leader, I have resigned from the position of ANBU directly under the Hokage."
Several clansmen who were about to say something unpleasant quickly shut their mouths. Although Fugaku was surprised, he just nodded calmly.
Shisui walked nimbly among the clan members. The people next to him made room for him and asked in disbelief: "Is this true?"
During the Third Ninja War, Shunshen Shisui, who had been on the front line of the war for the name of Uchiha, finally came back?
"Well, that's what happened after all."
Shisui nodded slightly and sat down on the ground in the eyes of the clansmen whose hostility gradually faded.
"If everyone is still willing to trust me as before, I am willing to personally investigate the disappearance of Flame and Wen, and I will definitely give everyone a satisfactory result."
Except for the instigator of this incident, no one knows better than Shisui what may have happened behind the scenes.
Yesterday, after he had ruled out the possibility of all the three Tomoe clan members going out to cast illusions on Uchiha Flame, an outsider with the Three Tomoe Sharingan was his primary suspect.
It's just that he hasn't told anyone about this guess yet.
The clansmen were a little disappointed when they heard that Shisui did not come as a fighting force against the Hokage, but as a peacemaker.
But in the eyes of Uchiha Fugaku, who has not yet made up his mind, this is an excellent opportunity to calm down the clan a little. The few Jonin who had been following him and knew that Uchiha was not ready to confront the village also nodded approvingly.
"No matter what we do without any solid evidence, we cannot be justified. We also need time to make detailed preparations. In this case, let Shisui investigate this matter -"
Before Fugaku finished speaking, a small figure jumped down from the roof, and then Sasuke's horrified voice came from the roof: "Giyu!"
"And I."
Giyu's eyes were as cold as frost, and he said in an irrefutable tone: "I'm very good at finding people. I want to go with Shisui."
This time, he had nothing extra and wanted to do something by the way.
Uchiha Giyu just wants to know the whereabouts of his few friends.
