It's SO nice to have your New Who reactions back, I've missed them. π This is now the 5th time I've watched this episode and I like it more on every rewatch. The first time I felt the same way as you. But now I get it a lot more. The thing with Sasha 55 wasn't meant to have an emotional impact. Russell said that he wrote this episode as if the audience are looking through Belinda's eyes. So to The Doctor Sasha 55 is this person he's known for months, someone he grew to love, so when she died it deeply hurt him. But Belinda didn't know her so we didn't know her, the point of her character was to show Belinda how dangerous The Doctor can be. It was done to set up The Doctor and Belinda's dynamic. And Manny and the rest of the rebels were meant to feel insignificant and like their stories didn't matter because that's what they were to Belinda. And when you look at the episode from this perspective it makes it SO much better. Belinda I already think is brilliant. Ruby was ok but she trusted The Doctor immediately and never once questioned him, but every Doctor need at least one companion like Belinda. Someone to question their morals and bring them back down to Earth a bit. As you said, Martha did that for 10 and Clara did that for 11/12. Belinda definitely has that same energy which I love. Plus I feel the actress has MUCH better chemistry with Ncuti than Millie did. There's already a Doctor and Belinda ship name lol, NurseDoc. And I'm here for it. π Oh and I'm glad you caught that Belinda knew the word TARDIS but you were wrong when you thought The Doctor said it earlier in the episode, he 100% didn't. So how did she know? I'm very curious about that. And I loved the little "polish, polish" robot lol, it was adorable. The costumes and set designs were all amazing and all practical effects, AL in AI form wasn't CGI, they built that set. They set up a few interesting mysteries. And yeah a really solid season opener for me, WAY better than Space Babies. I'll give it an 8/10 simply because I agree that the resolution of how AL was defeated was very rushed. But overall an enjoyable episode for sure. π
