Thanks for this kind note!

Thanks for writing! I appreciate how you pay careful attention to what's valuable and what's not both on the emotional and intellectual levels when designing tools for thought. I run workshops for students to go work in policy and at non-profits, and I think a lot about how to make them as useful and transformative for those students as possible. I like that you recognize and emphasize how important the emotional aspect of review sessions are, and that "texts are narrative, texts are prose, texts are structure, texts are voice. Prompts are helpful cues, but they're subordinate to the richer original material. I don't want to whittle down the source text; I want to layer lenses on top of it" I've been contending recently with the fact that my workshops have a large emotional component that is largely neglected by my coworkers, and I want to focus on it more, but the value in the emotional is less tangible, harder to explain, and harder to see the value in. It's also something that's easier to trick yourself about—that it might be the ONLY important thing—similar to how people trick themselves that what they need to improve their research or work is a new productivity system. As I try to walk this line, I'm inspired by the balance you've found here :)

By the way, I am implementing a new spaced repetition algorithm for Anki and collected some interesting data from Anki's users. I guess it will be helpful to you. https://github.com/open-spaced-repetition/fsrs4anki

In my opinion, incremental reading is more personalized, while the mnemonic medium is more professional. In the future, I hope every formal publication will be converted to a mnemonic medium, and everyone could use incremental reading in texts of niche fields.

Exciting work! I have used Anki for three years and SuperMemo for two years. It is still a problem for me to write good cards. I try to introduce SRS to more people. But most of the students only want to cram massive materials before exams. Someone interested in PKM thinks the cost of SRS is too high, and they prefer to write notes on Obsidian or RoamResearch. I believe the mnemonic medium will reduce the cost of writing cards.
