My now-husband, D, kept holding off on proposing to me because he felt like he had to top the proposals of his brother and sister. (Boat and hot air balloon.) At a family Hanukkah lunch at his dad and step-mom’s house, his siblings talked about how -they’d screwed up their proposals.- I quietly said to my fiance, “See? They’re -weren’t- perfect.” D got everyone’s attention and proposed right then and there. It turned out to be the last time we’d celebrate Hanukkah in the family home. We were 50 and 55 at the time. Being neurodivergent, neither of us had found our just right person up until we’d started dating a year before.

My husband took me out one night downtown. He dressed really nice and asked me to dress up, first time in our lives he said that. We walked around downtown by the riverfront. He had me sit down by on a rock by a river and proposed, telling me about the dates we had went on and how much I meant to him. It was one of the happiest nights of my life. My words do not do him justice.

I proposed to Andrea by recreating the Princess and the Frog moment. On my knee I had her kiss a little toy frog with her eyes closed and when she opened her eyes there was the ring. Right in front of the castle at Disneyworld. I told her it was for a little video I was making for a friend's kid. Had Andrea's sister filming it.
