I only really check out Osamu Tezuka’s anime and manga - he did some cool and groundbreaking stuff in manga for the time. He was really influenced by film - down to panel framing and composition and treating his characters as actors in the studio. Some are even recognizable as Old Hollywood-inspired.

I love what an asshole Friedkin was personally. The Brink's Job is funny but you don't see much if any film making style of Friedkin in it really. The terrible trend of not putting any real style in most comedies was around even back then unfortunately.

Joe speaking here. I have seen that movie and really enjoyed it! John Heard was such an underrated actor and he’s so good in it. I have a feeling Ryan would really enjoy it as well

I wonder if you guys have seen the movie Cutter's Way with Jeff Bridges and John Heard. It really stands out when you think of movies based on those kind of neo-noir, pulp detective stories as they shambled into the 70s and 80s. The book was written by Newton Thornburg, and I really recommend Dreamland and To Die in California by the same author, especially for Joe.

Ryan I'm glad we agree on watching Bad Movies, every hack I see always say, "Watching Bad Movies Teaches you what not to do." and aside for a handful of films, all they teach you is to have a bigger budget, and hope to god the producers don't fuck it up in editing
