A New Pink Tide? (w/ Thea Riofrancos & David Adler)
🕑 Added 2022-05-15 16:56:31 +0000 UTCHope for the American left is at a fairly low ebb, at the moment, but our counterparts in Latin America are on the march and succeeding at beating back repressive right wing governments across the region. What can we learn from them? And given extremely volatile global conditions — and the continued role of the US in defending the interests of capital in the region — what can these new left-wing governments hope to accomplish?
Sam is joined by political scientist Thea Riofrancos and David Adler, the General Coordinator of the Progressive International, to discuss left populism in Chile, Colombia, Brazil, and elsewhere.

Hearing about the possibility of a new Left constitution in Chile reminded me of the movement, afoot and under-discussed, for an article V constitutional convention in the US.

Any recommendations for reading about Hugo Chavez? Not sure where to find a history that isn't US anti-left propaganda but also isn't just a hagiography. Any guidance to learn more?

It's going to be interesting to see what develops in Latin America with the USA's waning power nowadays. Great episode, thanks a lot.
