Antikythera Update
🕑 Added 2023-11-20 21:03:05 +0000 UTCHey Folks,
I am working through the next section of the mechanism and have taken the opportunity to go deep into the detail of the workshop tooling to tell a comprehensive story. The tool suite indicated by the wreckage is considerable, and it’s taken most of the last few months to ‘prove out’ everything and make all the necessary bits and pieces period correct - on a side note, I might be about ready to go pro as a file cutter!
I still have a lot of work to complete, but I’m pleased with where it’s all going. At the end of all this work will be a set of 4 videos that I think are going to tell a unique and enjoyable story on the mechanism’s construction.
Thanks again for your patience, I am grateful for your generous support.
Cheers,
Chris.

That must be the moon crown gear from fragment C. Looking forward to that bit.

It's half of a tiny Hirth joint

We just watched the last Indiana Jones movie the other night and I was thinking about all the work you’ve done and how it looked nothing like the prop in the movie!

Thank you for the update, Chris. I am happy to wait patiently to witness your excellent craftsmanship.
Jose Martinez
I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us, Chris. Your work is always out of this world amazing.

Fantastic to hear this news Chris. knowing your attention to detail...as well as seeing things through, have you manged to get to a stage where you are able to contribute thoughts on un-recovered parts of the mechanism ? I ask because you have a unique set of skills to contribute to furthering knowledge of this remarkable piece of history

If I could do more (and work faster) believe me I would - Cheers :)

Ah that would be fun!

You know... that Chris is on to something. Rough cuts.. teasers (like this post was) and the like are very nice for curbing the thirst and would be rather especially cool if they only happened here. I suspect your process would be only the tiniest bit interrupted by such rough, quick posts. But I know nothing of your process, cares or concerns, only what I wish for, which is more more more! Do or do not.. I'm never leaving.

Now there's a thought ... Change the name of the Discord channel to Clickspring's Nerf Herders or Clickspring's Yak Shavers

Yes, working hard to make it so - Cheers :)

Great to hear that work is still progressing! I love your videos, but also miss the frequency you posted with during your clock build a few years ago. Please show and document the things as you can - and there's no problem with including a disclaimer in the video that some information may be imperfect, so viewers should look for corrections or updates in the video description. Because "perfect is the enemy of good", and even published peer-reviewed research is subject to imperfection (if it wasn't, then there would be far less need for follow-up research!). Sometimes it's better to be 98% right with 2% correction, than to hold out for 100% accuracy.

You are practically the definition of quality over quantity, and if we didn't want that, we wouldn't be here. Keep up the good work
veritanuda
Awesome. Been going over the build recently and wondering how your research paper turned out. Was it peer reviewed. Were there any corrections or feedback ?

Exciting! Maybe one of the videos early as a Christmas present…? 🤩🎄

What are the theories as to missing components that would be required to get the mechanism to display the supposed lunar calendars (in accordance to the assumed hole spacing measured)?

Always glad to see updates from you, mate. As the comments clearly show, we’re here for the duration regardless. It doesn’t matter how long these things take or how many tangents arise etc. We all love your work and are happy to support it, full stop. We’re definitely excited to see what you’ve been up to. I hope you and yours are well & you’re really enjoying this project.

“Who’s scruffy lookin’?” - Han Solo. Now you have to do it Chris, just so you can sell a Nerf Herder set. 😆
