What is being used for Q1 Q2

Thomas

What TO package type be used for Q1, Q2. Only will be used for for audio frequencys.

Pajr Raupp

Mr Carlson I've watched many of your videos.. You remind me of my high school electronics instructor but with more STUFF. i cut my teeth on 5u4 5y3 35w4? . can't wait to build

Robert Calk Jr.

Thanks, Paul. I'm sure a lot of guys will love the through-hole Ultra Probe.

Mr Carlson's Lab

Hi Elliott, once the final designs are done, I will give examples.

Elliott Liggett

Paul, always appreciate your contributions to the field. What is the approximate bandwidth of this design? Thank you, —E de W6EL

I have decided that the CUP (Carlson Super Probe) will be my first surface mount project. Wild horses will not be able to drag me away from trying to expand my knowledge on that front. But you are tempting me. Ha.

Mr Carlson's Lab

The thinner board will be absolutely fine.

Chris Bennett

I found that Ben Eater has both tool and an excellent company recommendation for breadboards. He has a really good video on breadboarding tips. (Youtube) He builds full older style logic boards with a zillion wires. All perfectly laid out and clear. I bought the breadboard brand he recommends and it's great. No more rats nest of wires and components leaving me hopelessly confused by using his simple but straightforward method.

I have a bit of on unusual question. I happen to have a load of super thin doublesided PCB material lying about. I am talking 0.35 mm thick as opposed to the typical 1.6 to 2 mm thick stuff. Would the regular SMD probe benefit from using this material or would it cause issues. The way I see it is it would introduce more parasitic capacitance due to higher dielectric constant, less parasitic inductance, would dissipate heat less opening the door to thermal noise, less mechanical stability (which given the probe shell design is not a big worry I would think), better shielding theoretically from EMI due to reduced distance between trace and groundplane, less noise in general albeit mostly in higher frequencies...

Jorge Duran

It would be nice to include a speaker and tiny amp in the same box, all in one unit

Graham Brown

Thanks Paul for all the hard work you do to bring us these projects. I have a question, would it be possible to make the probe coaxial cable longer so that the box could sit on the bench? Or would this just introduce a whole lot of noise?

Stephen J Eskelson

Could not agree more, thanks Paul

Michael Wright

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! oh did I say Thank you :-)

John S. Johnson

The Threw Hole is perfect my friend:)

Edward Vignati

Thanks Paul I'm glad for a through the hole project. I had built the Super Probe with the help of Yannick99 gerber files, at 67 it is not in the budget to purchase a laser printer, hot laminator and etching equipment plus screwing up trying to learn. . I enjoy your videos and projects, I would like to see a project for Ham Radio, HF, uhf,vhf or even Satellites would be nice. 73 Eddie kj4fgi

I know it would be a lot of work, and probably not enough sales to make it worthwhile, but I also would like to see Mr.C premade circuit boards for your special projects. I already have toooooo much gear here and adding circuit board making may end in divorce!

Larry_W

Manuel, you are never too old. I'm 70, my eyes are a wreck and I'm shaky. I am just getting into SMD. Get yourself a good microscope and a good hot air station for this type of work and practice on kits. That's the way I started. It's a lot of fun!

Ben Lindvall

Very cool stuff indeed! Thank you, Paul. SMD and making my own circuit board was the main thing that got in the way of my making the 1st super probe, so this is great to have and makes it way more do-able for me. I know most people here can breadboard with just the schematic, but I would find it useful (and fun) to see a step by step breadboard video of the circuit, I gained so much from the "learn to fix anything" series and all the bread board/current-path/hands on type of experience from those videos. As a sidebar, Adafruit has a "perma-proto" 1/2 sized board that have the same look as a breadboard, but function like a proto-board. The dimensions are 80mm by 50mm... maybe it would fit into that enclosure? Nice thick and solid feel to them.

Manuel Herrera

Thanks a lot from one that has a life-hoarding lot of thru-hole components, no SMD experience at all and also old and tired hands and eyes. I'm afraid I'm too old to make the change. Thru-hole designs are greatly welcomed.

Dennis Ochterski

Sorry, pressed the wrong key! Anyhow, I don't "get" how to take a schematic and transfer that to a layout on a circuit board that makes sense. To be honest, I wish you could partner with a company that would take your inventions and put them in "kit" form to purchase. I know you do so much for us now, but II put together some HeathKit kits and I really miss that experience. Just a thought, Paul. Thanks again for all you do.

Dennis Ochterski

Paul, thank you for your wonderful contributions in the electronic world. I've learned a lot just by watching your videos. Your presentations are award win ning.. Being the electronics engineer that you are and that a lot of us are not, I was wondering if you could possibly go over in layman's terms, how you take a schematic and transfer that to a circuit board. I've seen the videos on probes and other test equipment that you've released and how you use a laminatoir or copier to

Alan Wood

Thank you.

Bettina Neumeyer

I look forward to building this one too. In fact, I already have most of the parts. Thanks Paul for another project.

James Roberts

Thank you Mr. C. You really go out of your way to include everyone and everyone's varied capabilities to be included in your designs. We so much appreciate you!!

Andrew Cockburn

Mr. C you made me a convert to SMD, so I am sticking with the original version when I build this, and happily waiting for the amplifier box piece - but I think it's cool that you provide options for everyone, thanks for your hard work!

Mr Carlson's Lab

Hi Niklas. The only down side is a slight drop in gain at the lower frequencies. The Probe has so much gain as it is, if you didn't know about the drop, you wouldn't know the difference during use.

Niklas Eriksson

Thank you Paul for your hard work. Are there any negative sides going the “simplified version” way, like less functionality? Cheers! /Niklas
