The next Movies with Mikey episode is ...

I just re-watched The Last of Sheila, per Johnson’s podcast commentary on Glass Onion. I see the influence!

Gotta quickly go watch the glass onion now

Would a look at The Menu as part of the recent "is billionaire capitalism actually a bad thing maybe?" awakening be video-essayable? Perhaps in conjunction w/Second Look, Renegade Cut or Folding Ideas? Additional popular media candidates incl: Triangle of Sadness, The White Lotus, Succession, and the Knives Out Cinematic Universe. Maybe please and thank you! 😁

I'm entirely too excited for this. You're one of my favorite video essayists, and all your content is a joy to behold!

I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm not sure if it's video essay material, but I enjoyed what it was doing. Even kind of mean-spirited to food culture (which I don't love).

JAMES CAMPBELL

Any thoughts on covering The Menu?

Jacob McLaughlin

Maybe some stop motion films? Off the top of my head: Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, Fantastic Mr. Fox, ParaNorman, Kubo and the Two Strings, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. Marcel particularly feels like a movie that was made for you.

recommendations for animated films?

Jacob McLaughlin

I think it would be cool to see you cover more animated films. I absolutely love the Spider-Verse essay. Also, being a big Guillermo del Toro fan, any of his movies would be great to see a video on. The Pacific Rim essay might be my favorite video that you have done.

Jacob McLaughlin

Awesome! Thank you!

Yes, that is the plan. We are currently (in the background with everything else,) trying to put together all the 'director's cuts' of our entire library for Nebula. It's kind of a big project but that's where Pan's Labyrinth will eventually live. (that ep always had some factual inaccuracies that I was not comfortable with)

Jacob McLaughlin

Any chance we'll ever the Pan's Labyrinth episode on Nebula or is it lost to the sands of time?

Movies with Mikey

Um. It's complicated? Half the cast moved across the country and is raising a small child. When and /if/ they're up for it, we're up for it :) We will definitely keep everyone posted should anything change

Any update on possible Deep Dives?
