Possibly Permanent Blue Balls
🕑 Added 2018-01-06 17:29:00 +0000 UTC Yesterday was when the Cohabitation update was supposed to go up. I know, that's still later than it should've been but the holidays ended up busier than I thought they'd be so I needed a couple of extra days to finish everything up. A few days ago, though, as I was drinking my morning coffee and checking my regular sites, Windows tells me there's been an error and it will reset in one minute.Ever since then the screen above is as far as I've been able to get. I've tried all the regular repair options it gives in order to keep my personal files but replace the Windows system ones but sadly none have worked. I've also tried various fixes using the command prompt but none of those have done the trick either.
The last 'official' option is to re-install Windows 10 completely but that would wipe out everything. This is a problem because the last back up I've done was during the middle of December, so I'd lose a lot of, well... everything: progress for this game, for Common Life, and a ton of my own personal files. Worse is that I've retardedly never bothered to backup my HoneySelect files (used for creating images for Cohabitation) nor my Daz3D files (used for creating images for Common Life). As such, I'm trying to avoid this if at all possible.
Over this weekend I'm going to try out virus/malware scanners that you can boot and run from a USB. Even though I can't think of any sites I've visited or anything I've done that would cause me to become this badly infected I'm still hoping this might help. Failing that I'm going to then try to find file recovery software that I can likewise boot and run from a USB so that I can copy all my needed files onto an external drive before completely re-installing Windows 10. Now if all that fails I'll probably just kill myself.
I'll make a new post once I have an update on the problem. If anyone has any experience in this stuff then any help you can give via PM would be greatly appreciated.
(Also that sticky note in the top corner is supposed to read 'Sid V.' but the weird angle of the shot plus the paper curling upward probably makes it hard to read.)

Thanks. This is pretty much what I ended up having to do. I found a linux OS made around disc rescue which allowed me to copy what I needed from my C drive over to my storage one.

You can install Windows on the same partition and choose to keep your files. Other option os to install on an external drive or use an adapter to plug your current HDD to another pc. Also you can make a live CD or USB that runs on linux just to recover your files
