Battlemage Rewrite - What do my patrons think? (Please read and vote!)
🕑 Added 2023-07-22 13:31:23 +0000 UTCHello everyone! So, my most recent public posting of Battlemage has received quite a bit of push back for the Spice arc. Some of the complaints I can understand, others not so much. I have had a few complaints on here as well, as the Spice arc has unfolded, both in comments and in PM, enough so that I believe it needs addressing.
There are two options here really. The first is that I ignore the complaints and keep posting. The Spice arc is nearly complete for board members, but for everyone else there are a handful of chapters left. The second option is a rewrite. This could be anything from shortening and "Fixing" the complaints I've received both from the public and my patrons, to a complete deletion and shifting of the story. Vaz would still be included, but the entire story would be shifted, if I go that way.
The problem is that the second option comes with a significant time investment, enough that I would have to shift some things around. At minimum I would have to cancel next months chapters of Last Resort as well as any chapters until I was finished rewriting. That means no new post Monday, Wednesday, Friday and potentially the next Monday as well. I could probably finish it before I am going on vacation, but it would be close enough that I would feel uncomfortable promising/assuring you of that.
So, that's where I am at. I would appreciate any comment, though please leave any long winded critiques of the Spice arc out, at this point I've heard all if it and would just like to focus on how far I should go to fix it, or if I should at all.

Honestly my only real annoyance with it is that I couldn’t read it all at once, so I’m simply waiting until you’re done posting it and bingeing that section then.

I don't see a problem with it personally, and I feel like there are probably more people in the thread who are fine with it than not, you're just seeing more feedback from people who are disgruntled because people are less likely to comment if they're enjoying something than if they dislike something. That's certainly how I am: I try to remember to leave likes on stuff I read cause most of the time I'm content with what I've seen and see no reason to go to the effort to leave like a five-word post expressing my contentment.

I only don't like the length of the arc besides getting Vaz to join it just feels like its getting to long, taking a few chapters for them to travel to the port and leave just feel wasted.

My opinion is that I personally don't like this arc but overall like the story. So I'm in the camp of rewritten but at the same time I can just skim through it if you decide to go forward as so far you have good story with good world building and almost every story has weaker arcs it's just the nature of writing.
