So, LitRPG Con was an absolute blast. I moderated my first ever live panel, for Travis Baldree, Jeff Hays, Matt Dinniman, Aleron Kong and Jez Cajiao. It was the opening ceremonies to hundreds of people in a packed room, and it was pretty insane. The whole experience was amazing, between games sessions, panels, workshops and drinks at the bar. It was by far the best convention I've ever been to, and I was sad when it ended.
I do want to give a shoutout to those of you who messaged to see if I was okay when you heard about the fire at LitRPG Con. Even then, when all of us were outside at like 3am in the cold, watching the fire trucks dealing with the situation... it was still fun!
That said, the jetlag was an absolute killer. Flying nearly 10hrs each way to Denver was a nightmare, and doing both trips within a week had me exhausted for the following five days. My first proper night sleep was only two days ago, so I genuinely needed the rest.
Five chapters this week. I wrote 8 in total, but really wasn't happy with three of them. The characterisation is something I still want to work on with some of these, and the descriptions are a little lacking in the early ones, but I wasn't going to take another week to obsess over them. I'll be coming back to them in the editing phase, but the storyline is the important part.
Let me know what you all think of them. It's good to be back!

The editing isn't done for Book 5. It takes months between developmental, line editing, continuity and beta readers. I avoid putting the finished version on Patreon because there are people here uploading the attachments to a piracy site. I've even had someone impersonate me and try uploading my book, completed with AI to Amazon.

For Book 4, there were revised PDF's issued later (after editing?) for 4 chapters. Will there be similar revisions posted for Book 5 now that the editing is done?

Don't think I'm not onto you Brian!. Every time this "oh I wasn't happy with the chapters" we get a cliffhanger... I know what you are doing! *narrows eyes* Ok, still unsure if we are meant to act as ARC readers or spoiled brats so I'll try a bit of both: Feedback for Chapter 14. Great first half, relationships, a bit more of the new mythic and some "mundane" problems to be solved, showing that not only new barrier tech and amazing gear can make a difference. Second half, the essence leakage converter, didn't do it for me. The concept is hazy, the usefulness seems understated and the conversation seems strange. For example, when Sal asks how does he plan to tailor each core for each essence the reply is "was gonna buy them, but the problem is the math"... ??? Not sure, this part didn't land for me at all. Even if it's just a piece for Sal to have a breakthrough on something else in the future, I think it could use some work to have some merit on its own... Chapter 15. All good here, more lore, relationship development and some good placement of ideas. Chapter 16. Again, nothing particularly jumped at me. The negotiation felt a bit extended but all in all, good. I LOVED Sal making sure the work with machine was not interfering with Royce's classes and grades. Chapter 17-18 I'll leave the "it's not the right kind of sword" debate for better informed people on the matter. I really liked these two chapters. I love Maxine's complex character and the nuances of her, and her father's situation coloring her personality. Just a "but"... perhaps too much complexity compressed into too brief of a timeframe (even if dilated). Makes her feel a bit erratic more than complex. Yes, you wonder why she feels insecure while still being so powerful, and yet you end up with her making a bet how she can beat Diva... She seems adverse to getting charity but happy to explore the opportunities that, by her own perceived notion, other guilds are offering her due to her father... I think she will need more screen time for her complexities to really feel good and grounded. I "think" I can see where they come from, but feel them a bit jumbled. Notes aside, always a good read Brian. You have a very unique way of imagining things and always makes for fun reading.
