Gorane

I mean didnt we already know that since his escape skill triggered? It woulsnt have had if he disnt believe it

wanderer117

Does the upgrade to Say What's True imply that Zaff believed him by the end? That Brin and the lance did enough damage that Zaff started to think it wasn't all smoke and mirros but actual archmagi glass magic? Upgrade - Say What’s True Increase your ability to convince a target of the truthfulness of an illusion. Physical damage will now greatly increase the effectiveness of this Skill.

wanderer117

Brin was also tortured by multiple witches under Arcena's command including Aberfa his bio mom just like Lothar. He's also in the same body as Aberthol, he may share the same mind (Brin at least thinks he has recovered Aberthol's memories), it isn't the same soul. Original Aberthol had system achievements that Brin doesn't have, which I'm guessing are linked to original Aberthol's soul.

Gorane

Either Brik uses some Wyrdic delusionist stuff to defeat so many powerful opponents or he will get help from someone else a la Galand

Gorane

I cant really make it work tonaly in the current situation, but if he had healed mentally before this battle he wouldnt need [delusionist] anymore after this new skill and he could have switched to a new class for another immediate powerup Glassbound Illusionist (epic)

Gorane

Filial Piety +100% Will attribute growth (so its not just +10% Will from the quest) Warforged (Legendary) Additional +10% to Mental Control. -> and +10% Magic (He basically emptied and refilled his mana pool 3 times over 5 minutes just to fight the Wight. Would allow him to hit Magical VI immediately) +100% experience from melee combat -> +120% experience from all types of combat. So basically he didnt really fight such a powerful oppontent via melee, but rather through a lot of magic, trickery and leadership (of different threads) (Now he can get more XP for doing such stuff.) Warforged skill [Battle Sense] You have an innate sense about the position of your allies and enemies in conflict. You have an innate sense of how to direct wyrd, constructs and your allies to greatest effectiveness during conflict.

Gorane

So I got bored and brainstormed some rewards Ideas for rewards: Mindful (epic) You split your mind into 50 different parts Spliting your mind is now marginally more easier and faster Mindful (epic) You split your mind into 75 different parts without doing lasting damage Spliting your mind is now more easier and faster Spliting your mind too much has a much lower chance to decrease the haeccity of the mind. gain 10% mental control Mindful (legendary) You split your mind into 100 different parts. You managed to heal from mental damage caused by splitting your mind too much all by yourself. Grants [Clear Mind] ability (merged with multithreading) [Clear Mind] (before it is merged with multithreading) for a period of 1 minute per day, you can significantly boost your mind. 40% mental control. Negative effects of split minds are greatly reduced. Additionaly, co-ordination between split minds is greatly improved. Perception of time slows by a half, before other variables. Greater endurance for both internal or external signs of mental stress. Knightly (Epic) You have saved your Lance from certain eath singlehandedly +20% -> +30% to all attributes while fighting without subterfuge or "defending others from someone signifantly more powerful than you". OR Knightly (Epic) You have saved your Lance from death singlehandedly 100% to the effects of vitality and to healing speed when fighting for knightly reasons. (syngergy with his healing speed now also enchaning his wyrd resistance, kind of boring tho) OR Knightly (Epic) You have saved your Lance from certain death from a more powerful individual. You have a better understanding of how to resolve dangerous conflicts in non deadly ways and how to guide others towards that. (A fun thing to have a social and combat ability all in one)

Gorane

If we will see .5 then dont forget about stats. I wish to remind that we havent seen Brins natural growth in Vitality. Magic or Will since ch 10. So if you do show his stat sheet, you should add some numbers to those stats. Tho ofc the other 3 stats (str, dex and mental) would have grown a bit since ch 31 as well, specially w the Wight fight, but a lot less more than those other 3.

Gorane

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10S4oE_nTOmnZAdKP674L7sjvS35FhtoCuVJ_a7ka0ts/edit?usp=drivesdk. So I didnt add this ch stuff do it but all the stats should be up to date. Skills and achievements are not, ch 3.5 is better for them

Sam

Or might be better to say Frenaria since Fortsmouth was the biggest he’d seen and that was in Prinnash

Sam

Maybe this needs changing: The city itself was massive as well. It was the largest by far that he’d seen in the Boglands, Should probably be: It was larger by far than any city he’d seen in the Boglands

CentaureHeart

The baseline is a coward when it wants to stop the conduit and escape the battlefield.

Tadas

Fun chapter! Brin seems confident facing lvl 70 giant of legends, so the Conduit must be awesome. I would love to see insanely buffed Brin just going ham. 3 lances of Dread Knights? Meet 3 lances of Jake 18! I wonder if Zaff will show up, that would be fun. I got the feeling that Paladins peak skills are channeling power from Gods and even if not, they are Gods champions, aren't they? And when the witch in Hammon's Bog tried to kill people in the church, they immediately reacted along the lines "gods won't be mocked". So it shouldn't be possible to artificially create a Paladin, unless Gods allow it I think. I would like Lothar get some justice for his tragic past. He works very well as a foil, though.

Hypnotical

there were tens of thousands from the other two armies present at all [AS WELL ?] I will not die the death of Gouwan. He wouldn’t die the death of Gouwan, because Gouwan had died a hero’s death.[last chapter was Bouwen? You have it as Gouwan here in several places, is it a retcon ?] but wings that shouldn’t have been large enough to carry it. No one told them that from the way it snaked around in the sky. [? sounds wrong] It was running on so little time that all of the abrupt changes in his psyche had never forced it to dismiss. [to be dismissed ?] Still think Brin did the Baseline dirty, "loser" doesnt sound right for the setting and since when has he ever been a coward?

thomas johnson

now that Brin has connected to Aberthol, he has the same memories/ system knowledge that Aberthol has. This means he has the same traumas/ pain but also means he has the same defense to Arceana through the wyrd and maybe even system achievement progress. I would think this mean in situations where a curse could be healed such as the mass poisoning in the camp, or mind altering effects he can heal at an incredible rate whereas before he could not. I think curses are a permanent or as weak as the claim before they were placed. In the case of Lumina a strong curse was placed on her due to trying to steal another person's son. Even though that was powerful she was able to withstand it. I think the goal of the curse determines how much it can last. Whether the curse is attacking an individual's vitality that is the stat that fights, vs will, perception, or strength. I thought recovery was for willpower meaning in addition to physically healing from scars he would mentally heal from damage. Meaning a creature that will eventually not feel the pain afflicted on them nor would they be physically affected. That is why Brin/ Aberthol was an incomplete doll.

Patron1kj6tz

You have increased resistance to curses. You have increased recovery against curses, proportional to your physical recovery speed. Healing speed increased. 305% -> 325% So does this mean he has +325% resistance to curses and any that do manage to effect him will end about 4 times faster than they normally would? Which also raises the question of are curses normally temporary? Or does this allow him to recover from curses that would normally be permanent? Last question(s). Did we ever find out what [Recovery] does? It's a general skill Aberthol wanted to get because he was sure it could fuse with scarred but healing. If I had to guess I would say something like "Increases your ability to recover from fatigue (maybe only while resting?)" In which case if he gets a massive boost to stamina regen then he would basically have dollar store [Inexhaustable]. Honestly I actually hope its some kind of first-aid skill that after fusing would allow him to grant some of his accelerated healing to others. Their lance really needs a white mage.

Tommy

This was fucking awesome! Loved every bit of it. TFTC!

CentaureHeart

I think the baseline was wrong as well. Sure Aberthol is broken and Brin has an evil class but when the baseline was made Brin was still dedicated to helping his mother and ending the war, so why would he want to cancel the conduit? It's not like doing that would suddenly cancel all the dangers they might ever face. It was indeed a coward's choice.

Nikolai Beckel

Would brin have survived the cursed the same way that Aberthol did as a thread? I just wonder what effect that him being in the Aberthol mind had on the curses, I’d at least think that brin wouldn’t have taken the curses without an issue, because despite it still being the same body that experienced the torture, it isn’t the same mind that experienced the torture

Chien Do

Glad Brin is back. I really don't like story trope that MC lost memories or somehow get altered mind. I invest heavily in his character, personalities and past choices. And I dont want to watch a different "mind" in his body. Shit just weird me out to no end. Brin returning his baseline is pretty ballsy, but quite empowering. 1, he is owning up to his decisions, no blame to evil class or whatever. 2, he can convince himself and the Wyrd better when there is no "hey, this is the real me" backup version hiding somewhere. He is all-in on his Delutionist class. Combining with new Achievement, I would expect his class to have a much bigger impact from now on. The Mana-Solar farm idea is all fun and game, till some creatures that predate on magic, like Marksi, comes along and eat them all up.

Gorane

I am guessing the author will add some distance limit, otherwise it could get out of hand on an infustrial scale

Xavier Duquesne

Thank you for the chapter!!

Patron1kj6tz

Huh, I had been half expecting for "Aberthol" to be a "lie to Lothar" mask that Brin intentionally put on. But apparently not. Also how far away can Brin be from an illusion and still maintain it? Could he set up an illusory solar farm somewhere to get basically infinite mana? Well he'd need to travel the world and set up a few to keep it up 24 hours a day.

Andrew

Thank you!

KollegvomMirgan

We are so back! I was afraid that Aberthol being in charge might have led to an even worse catastrophe as Lothar already being a [Broken Doll]

C

Good chapter, glad brin is back. Feel sorry for aberthol, but at least he may find some peace now.

Philldoran

I liked the Aberthol chapters. Not because I liked Aberthol, but because it added to the story and, by dedicating more than a single chapter, it made it a real issue.

Gorane

I will update my file (so you can use my log if need be) and post my thoughts about the .5 chapter tomorrow. So far good chapter and I am excited to see what will happen.

Pocket Rikimaru Thanatos

Is he though? He's acting weird

Pocket Rikimaru Thanatos

He messed up right?

rhekke

I completely agree, and actually recently dropped a story I had really liked for that exact reason. It helped with Bog Standard that the Aberthol personality was not evil, and actually sympathetic to Brin/Mark, and that we already were introduced to how classes can influence personalities, but do not override existing values, as long as there's a strong core sense of self. I also think what we saw with Brin is going to be important in understanding Lothar shortly.

wanderer117

And Brin's class selection claimed finding challenging targets was going to get harder, ha! Bio mom lined up an entire pantheon for brin to sharpen himself against.

wanderer117

That was always the problem with a backup that only the current Brin could activate. If he's fine and doesn't need it he won't activate it. If he goes crazy but likes the crazy him, he won't activate it. The only way the backup gets activated is if Brin becomes someone that doesn't like himself. That feels nostalgic for how he used to be.

wanderer117

It's literally word of God that Aberthol's soul passed on. This chapter does make it seem like his meat brain retained the memories of Aberthol's life though.

Kevin Zhang

This has become one of my favorite series, it keeps getting better over time, incredible improvement!!

Kevin Zhang

Love this chaptwr

Kevin Zhang

I'm guessing the wyrd is baked into the skill, but i also expected a word or two in there about the wyrd

wanderer117

Between Delusionist and Meditation I bet Brin can make an off switch, if he wants one.

Raivshard

🔥

Michael

The fact that aura of menace appears to have no off switch should be interesting when Brin isn’t fighting.

Mithras131

Love the chapter, but one point did confuse me. I thought he'd been promised persistent casting with a wyrd spin by his class avatar? Though then again, Delusionist avatar do be a tricky one

Trey

i’ve been loving the identity issues that have cropped up! i’m surprised so many people don’t like it bc i just find it so fascinating. like now there’s this question of if aberthol ever really did pass on or if this was just something that occurred bc of the say what’s true working a little too well and somehow dragging aberthol back from the other side. there are so many possibilities and it’s been great to see brin’s character growing from all that he’s experienced. it’s awesome and i love it. this chapter did not disappoint

Hypnotical

It was but then the "loser" line made me think of mean girls and it instantly became 200% less awesome.

STAsi0 23

Cool

Sean Shivers

Not totally sure that dismissing the brin backup is a good thing... It seems wise to at least keep it around to consult.

Sam

Awesome

Chris

I have a pretty large bias against MCs going crazy... the evil class stuff has been pinging it pretty hard... and the last few chapters I had to stop myself from just skipping over. Not saying it's badly written or anything. I just really dont like it when the MC isn't entirely in control of their own mind.

Bub

brin dismissing the baseline thread was cool asf 🔥🔥

Conor lennon

Thanks for the chapter. I am glad Brin is back and with a power up just in time lol.
