I liked all versions of him... Unknowingly tragic, outwardly broken, and resurgent.... His arrogance didn't bother me because it felt like Icarus ascending

Kevin O'Malley

Just a boy.

Jasus

I have to say Lionel or beter said Metlion is way more likeable than Lothar.

Douglas Sokolowski

Looking forward to the hogwarts arc next!

What's the xinxia?

I agree that justification is a bit on a weaker side, but for a fantasy story, it's fine, what it lacks in realism it more than makes up with spectacle and emotion. I think there are few things going on: kings or generals by themselves can only do so much, they still need support of their of their armies and bards were manipulating armies hard. We saw that even within their armies, they are not unified in purpose, some factions want war, some want to go home and deal with internal problems. We know that highest leveled bard leveled up, so he must have done something truly significant and they are low key one of the scariest/most powerful classes around. 3 armies here are opposed to each other, their main motivation to fight is to prevent a rival gaining advantage, a loss is more acceptable as long as all of them are losing. Every leader here has massive problems at home, if they can't get a decisive victory here, they might not have enough power left to deal with problems at home. Metlions class description in no uncertain terms shows that this is will of gods and he has their favor. Gods in bogworld are very active and powerful, going against them is not wise. Lothar is a legendary fighter and he is standing within striking distance of them, he has pulled miracles before. Every knights Order now has a stake in Metlion being a king, because he is giving them lands.

I don't quite understand the larger political picture. These 4 nations bled to seize Arcaena. Having a new king rise up isn't rewarding them for their sacrifices.

Dalton Hatcher

“Below the golden age of the four-nation alliance!” --i think this is a typo, meant to be "Behold

"The climb up the stairs wasn’t easy on Brin’s cursed body. At least his bones were healed enough to hold his weight–an appointment with a [Bone Setter]." --third paragraph. May want to clarify this a bit

I love this series. Enjoy your break!

A very kind and wholesome ending to the book. Perfect for the holiday. Great thanks to author to write up the talk between Brin and Lothar. The wound does not go away, but they heal up and scar right. I bet Johan half want possesion of Lyssa to marry her to Galan anyway, to get them to be in his debt for life. But Gallan tough it out and confess and kiss her right there. And that was so beautiful. Anyway, I guessed Brin did off Cati inside the throne room huh. That or maybe they fought, she overpowered him but let him live. Still an undetermined plot point. Maybe Metlion first order of business is to clear out the corpse. That and maybe get Brin some weapon, his Bog Staff was broken. All in all, happy holidays to all.

WONDERFUL ENDING!! What a lovely conclusion to the book and arcs, really really liked the conversation between Brin and Lothar. Looking forward to seeing Brin's and Metlion's relationship works out! It's interesting, cause he's his subject but also arguably the person in the world he trusts most/the only person who truly understands him. Wouldn't be surprised if Brin became Metlion's Prime Minister, or some equivalent right hand position. (Also, i read Met'simga at Met'sigma at first and didn't question it at all lmao) Thanks for the chapters!! Looking forward to more!

Tommy

Yeah it’s the addition of a prefix “met” that doesn’t appear much, if at all, to the standard English word Lion. Reads oddly 😅

Tommy

“below. “Below the golden age of the four-nation alliance!”” Think the second below should be “Behold” “I can forget that I’m not him, and live as Aerthol for a little while” Aerthol -> Aberthol TFTC!

One of the most amazing stories indeed

Conor

Great chapter, only nitpick is metlion is not the name I would have chosen though. Idk sounds a bit weird.

BaguaBrady

I think one of the nuances of Kings in this verse is that they have little personal power without established authority. If he acted out and had no authority, he'd look even weaker. He definitely got out played here badly though.

Rubeno

[King] Johan reaction was a bit off. Too casual behavior in official setting for a monarch whose reputation was tarnished. He was made to look fool that anybody can step on without consequences.

Rubeno

Lothar/Metlion. The lie that may be become a truth. His situation reminds me of my favorite trope from certain xanxia where protagonist to protect himself invented a lie where he was this great and powerful ancient hero which was initially a gag but as the story went on it became more and more of a truth trough various shenanigans. I wouldn't be surprised if Metlion became eventually emperor from mere puppet he's now.

Trey

i’m very excited for the school arc at the Tower. And I am imagining how he can twist his curse and what his next class will be already. Wonderful end to the book!

Bombastus

There was one posted on Patreon a while back iirc, and it's also pinned to the #bog-standard-isekai channel on the Discord server. It shows the relative locations of Frenaria, Prinnash, Olland, and Arcaena/New Edelor.

Aaron Weingrad

Beautiful finale.

Lady Merlin

I cried at the reunion of Aberfol and Lionel, laughed at the bards being unable to help themselves not be part of the story despite orders, cheered with the army when Galan and Lyssa finally kissed, and cried again at the real meaning of Metlion's last declaration to Brin. What a wonderful and poignant coming together of threads all around. 100/100 book ending. You knocked it out of the park. Thank you Miles, and much gratitude to everyone who I've gotten to share this amazing story with. It's been an honor. While I can't wait for Book 6, I hope the author enjoys a well deserved break.

Heh that was a surprise

Great ending to the book! Enjoy your well-deserved break!

Side note: should it not be King Metlion (king in uppercase?). I believe titles of nobility should be capitalized when used as part of a name. It's lowercase in one or two places.

glare31337

Fantastic chapter and can't believe the commenters in the last one called it so perfectly. Thank you for the great book Miles and Merry Christmas.

Good shit

Aerthol->Aberthol*

Thank you for the chap- the booky ! :D

karmaslap

She isn't defeated for good though; part of her took the people and armies to the burrow kingdom and Cati is still holed up in the citadel. The rest of her is spread around

DuskDeadman

ALL HAIL KING METLION!!!

rhekke

This was great conclusion to the Arcaena War arc. It is so fitting that Aberthol and Lionel, two souls who were tortured until their minds broke at the will and direction of Arcaena were the ones to deliver her defeat and to wrest her kingdom from her. It is fitting that in by trying to twist a paladin into a tool to betray others, Arcaena created a holy King unlike any other. And ultimately, even Arcaena as Cati's attempt to sow discord in the armies only paved the way for the new kingdom to gain a populace seeking a fair and just ruler. In the end, Arcaena fell to the same weaknesses of all Tyrants, and created the very conditions for her own defeat.

Iiked this ending a whole lot~ excellent work miles~♡ I was worried there for a bit with cali controlling the citadel~

Justin Young

Wooooooo! Metlion will have himself a Bog Standard Advisor in time. I cant wait for more. For Brin to have a chance to normalize and breath before being whisked away to the Tower. Maybe get a leg up on how system enchantments work so he can up the level of his glass again. Thank you for the incredible journey this story has become. Cheers to the [Word Smith] Miles English!

Tom

Another awesome book. I'm looking forward to the next one. Thanks for all your hard work Miles! 👍 Have a great Christmas!

CentaureHeart

Thanks ! Was there ever a map of the continent that placed all the countries in relations to each other ? I think that would be nice with so many kings in one place (particularly with a new one).

Aceluke

Agreed. Not sure where Arcanea goes from here

Mohit

I admit it, I never expected this resolution. Looks like we will be nation-building now! I do wonder what this will do for Brin's political situation in Frenaria and the relationships he established in Hammon's Bog. Regardless, it is definitely exciting, and I am looking forward to the next book!

Hugh Jass

Damn, I didn't think there was a perfect way to draw this plotline closed. But you have certainly proved me incorrect. Bad ass chapter my guy!

Rene Duvall

TFTC!!! Have a Merry Christmas!!

Lucas Gulick

Excellent ending! Really enjoyed this book and Im super excited to see where the series goes next

Nyroe

The last few chapters felt kind of iffy, but this one was a perfect ending to the book, imo.
