I Got Laid Off And Am Now Unemployed.
🕑 Added 2025-06-06 22:31:47 +0000 UTCThis month has already been off to a...rocky start.
After coming back to work after nearly two weeks of vacation and some rest, I ended up getting a little sick. I worked from home this past Monday, but was left with the shock of my life in the morning hours when I was told I was being laid off effective immediately.
It had nothing to do with my performance, as I understand it. The company was undergoing restructuring, and my position was eliminated as a result. For the very first time in my life, I am not leaving a job of my own accord, I was pushed out in a moment's notice without warning.
I unfortunately did not get severance; it's not required by my state. And I'm still working on trying to acquire unemployment as well as applying to new jobs. For the first few days after finding out I was still not 100% as I was still recovering from a very lengthy sick episode.
I spent nearly 6-and-a-half years here, and really grew to love the company and the team I worked with and for. To receive a notice like this without any warning, it really hurt. My pride, a little. But also my trust. This company celebrated not laying anyone off when the COVID pandemic hit, and to know that I was relieved from my position without anyone seemingly trying to find a way to expand or change my position, was kind of a brick to the face.
It also hurt a lot financially. While I do have a reasonable paycheck I received and can at least manage the month, afterwards, if I cannot still find a job and unemployment hasn't kicked in yet, it's going to get harder for me.
Support for my content is more important now than ever before.
I'm not asking for financial aid, though that would certainly help right now. But even if you can share my content somewhere, anywhere, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm not TOO worried about finding new work...but it's not going to be easy. I'm in a stressful position, and will need all the help I can get. I do have a strong support system with my family (my partner, sister, and her partner), but it cannot last long-term at all and will even have problems trying to maintain short-term assistance.
For anyone who has cancelled or thought about cancelling a membership because I've been a bit slow lately, I do apologize, but there were a lot of forces beyond my control. I will still try to push out content as Patreon is my only financial lifeline right now even if very small, but it won't be easy so please bear with me.
Wish me luck in finding new work.

And it's a family-owned company too, there was certainly a lot of loyalty from both sides it felt like. But in the end, that may have needed to change, who knows.

I said it in the Discord, but it's infuriating how you've been treated. No notice, no warning, no opportunity to plan or put together a contingency. Just shows how loyalty is a one way street in the business environment. :(

Unfortunately it is what it is, and hopefully I can make the best of it.

That's awful to hear :(
