Chrysante gently caressed the back of Amelia’s hand.
“If it’s one thing you’re good at Pinky, it’s getting people to like you. A few samples and you’ll have the public eating outta your hand.”
Amelia wipes her eyes, pulling her gaze from the cellphone. “You really think so?”
“I know so. I got a plan and all you need to do is bake lots of those tasty little treats for me. Gimme some Little Red Velvet Cookies, some Snow Whites… oh, and I’m gonna need a fuckton of Sickly Sweets, extra glazy. I’ll advertise for you online, and you’re gonna pass em’ out all over town– get everybody really excited about this shindig you're gonna be throwing.
Chrysante's still smiling.
“Luckily for you, I already got a live musician on standby…" He pulls a number out of his cellphone. "I think her name’s uh…Jinx or somethin’ "
Amelia wipes her eyes again. Her gaze hardens as she squints into his phone screen.
“Jinx…what kind of music do they play?”
Chysante pivots, avoiding the question.
“If you’re supporting your community, it’ll only look good for you.”
“Oh, right.” Amelia pulled herself back into her seat, almost forgetting why they'd met up here.
“I’m gonna have an old friend swing by. Amora. She’s a reporter, and this'll be a ‘feel good’ story for Central City's Sweetheart. I doubt it’ll be hard for her to get it aired." The civet slipped his phone back into his pocket.
"...So make sure you clean up real nice. Straighten your hair. Wear something frilly. She’s agreed to make you look real good as a favor to me, so try not to say anything too Resistance-y.”
Amelia brought her hands together. “You got it. Ohhhhhhh! I’m getting excited.”
“Good. Keep that energy." Chrysante shot back. "You’re gonna need it when she gets here. Sheeee’s not exactly the easiest girl to work with.”
Amelia bat a hand at him. “Oh she can’t be that bad, can she?”
“You uh... You’ll see”
