🕑 Added 2024-10-18 03:07:33 +0000 UTCJust saw it. What a pleasant surprise! This is an example of a film that took the original film, and improved on it in nearly every single way. More ambition, creativity, much stronger characters, and the stakes are raised significantly. Og was a schematic and rather poor excuse for mental health commentary, but had its moments of silly camp and solid filmmaking that kept me intrigued. But this sequel elevates that conversation significantly, makes it a little less literal. It ain't brilliant or anything, but it's so much more integrated as a concept within the story. This also is one of the scariest films of the year, if that sort of thing affects you. I think there are some genuinely creepy moments that will stick with you. But it's a lot of fun. Edge of your seat type of movie. Highly recommend. Will get a review out tomorrow.

I thought the first movie was pretty derivative of better horror movies, but I still enjoyed it for what it was at the time. Hearing that you believe the sequel improves on every aspect of the original has inspired me to check out it out in theaters. Looking forward to watching your review!

Excited to see it. Smile was better than I expected it to be and I'm glad they used the sequel as an opportunity to iterate on what worked, instead of another easy check. By the way, if you have the Shudder streaming service (or it might also be on Netflix?) but there's a fantastic independent Irish horror film called Oddity now streaming that, to me, is the scariest film of the year and one of the most original as well. There's also a really interesting Quebec movie called Red Rooms on VOD that's very Fincher inspired, with more focus on the true crime obsessive culture. Would recommend both!

I'd say understand the premise at least. The beginning might be confusing. It picks up where the first one left off.

uh...the beginning might be a little confusing. But nah I wouldnt say so. But I'd try and at least understand the premise beforehand. Otherwise it might be confusing. But it's basically like a better version of the first film at the same time. Redundant.

Also...why is the acting so damn good in these movies? The acting has no business being this good. Naomi Scott really went for it man.
