Watched Twisters at home this weekend. Really enjoyed it. It was very reminiscent of the original Twister. Although, spoiler alert, the films have ZERO to do with one another. The story was engaging, I liked and cared about the characters, and can even see this turning into a franchise. Glen Powell is becoming quite the commodity.

Omg the original Twister traumatized me as a young kid. Not because it was scary, but because of the transition into the TWINS scene from THE SHINING, which the characters are watching at a drive in theater. No establishing shot, not the screen itself; just straight up "we're in The Shining now hope you're ready for some Penderecki." I have fond memories of that movie overall, but what a cruel transition for a little terrified kid that just wanted to watch the tornado movie directed by the Speed guy... Actually, thinking about it now, I'm pretty sure Twister is the movie that introduced me to Stanley Kubrick as a result LOL (Also, Hi! Been watching and commenting for years and finally decided to become a patron!)

Saw it in the theater back in ‘96 (part of a triple feature with the first Mission: Impossible and Phil Joanou’s Heaven’s Prisoners, just to mix things up a bit after two popcorn films). I have a fondness for Twister and the performances. I’m sure this new one will be entertaining, and I am becoming a huge fan of Glen Powell’s (and Daisy Edgar-Jones is an underrated actress with a great performance in Where the Crawdads Sing). I don’t care if it’s predictable. It’ll be a good time at the movies.

I remember growing up in Oklahoma when it was being filmed. It was pretty exciting because I had never seen a film set at that point. That was one reason that made me want to get into entertainment. As for the movie, I’ve watched it again recently and it’s big dumb but still fun.

I’ll be seated. Was one of my favorite movies growing up. Was also my first memory of the shining cause it plays in one of the scenes. And I’m from TN so also very used to tornadoes round here.

An absolute product of the 1990s and not in a good way. One of those films I indulged in as a kid and looking at it as an adult is much, much worse than I remember. Great effects even by today's standards but the dialogue is absolutely horrendous and ranks down there with Roland Emmerich films for the worst dialogue I've heard in a big budget blockbuster. All Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt do is bicker at each other the whole time like a sitcom couple and Phillip Seymour Hoffman is wasted as one of the most textbook 90s stereotypes you'll ever see. Also, Cary Elwes is head of the evil rival storm chasers who drive black trucks and, this is a literal quote in the film, have corporate sponsors. Let's not forget Paxton's new fianceé who serves no purpose other than to push the fake drama and could've been ejected from the film completely. If it played more into the B movie cheese like something like Eight Legged Freaks which is so wonderfully over the top, it could've been a fun ride but instead it tries to take itself relatively seriously and ends up being pure cringe as a result.

I actually just watched the original for the very first time. It was definitely cheesy, but slightly better than I expected. I still can’t believe the director of Minari is making the sequel. Hollywood is obsessed with plucking indie directors into blockbuster franchises and I don’t understand why

I LOVE the original. I’ve seen it 3-4 times I think. Yeah, it’s silly, and the premise is crazy, but the effects were ahead of their time, the performances are so delightfully sincere, and the pacing and score are legitimately great. There’s a big smile on my face every viewing. I also get choked up in the first few minutes because I’m reminded of how much I miss Bill Paxton and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. So I’m definitely watching Twisters opening night lol. From the trailer, it looks like Chung understands what makes the original so memorable. Also! Todd Field is in it, so it’s fun to look at the nerd he plays and think, wow this guy really directed Tar.

Yah Glen Powell is from Austin, which isnt too far from me. So yeah, it all fits well. I hope you're right. We need dumb fun movies like this back. But with some personality and quality. There are a lot of attempts that fall completely flat. And you realize, there's a special magic to the ones that work

Based on audience buzz during the trailer, I’m expecting this to be a big hit. There’s a decent amount of nostalgia around the original, and it has a red state aura that propelled sequels like Top Gun 2. Plus, it’s a perfect role for Powell.
