I have such bad super-hero fatigue... but I will watch Madame Webb... even if it feels like "source code" meets female "deadpool" meets all kinds of other stuff... and of course they used Billie Eilish for the trailer because... what other song can you possibly use? Lol... but looks like I might still enjoy it.

This technically comes out March 1. But I never thought I would say this... but after watching the trailer for "Spaceman" ... An Adam Sandler Sci-Fi movie...I'm actually excited to see it, could be a total disaster but it's about a dude in space losing his mind after a long time of isolation in space... and he starts to hallucinate about a giant spider that talks to him with Paul Dano's voice about the exploration of his mind... but then again, netflix+sandler doesn't really exudes "quality" ... what do you guys think about the trailer?

Fargo Season 5. A show full of beautiful plot holes... but it doesn't matter. It was good TV.

I am definitely excited about it... I wouldn't say it has Kurosawa RAN vibes just because they have samuraii's in it... I'm sure they are influenced by Kurosawa, Kobayashi, etc... but it will probably be more like Tom Cruise's "The Last Samurai" lol... and I think it's more like "Shogun Assassin" I just hope they don't eff it up... could be great... as long as they stay away from the cheese... and samurais speaking in english is already hard for me... but definitely anticipating it

It appears Bob Marley, like Elvis, was difficult to cast. Two of the actors credited on IMDb might be playing Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. But the trailer seems only to be highlighting Marley's later years so maybe not. I'm assuming it won't cover his entire love life. He was in love with two or three at once if I recall. But he had many good things to say with his music - and without it. Time will tell.

Yeah... when I was in film school circa 2002 a lot of other students knew Kusturica and a few professors loved his work... but then later it seems like he's been forgotten or his films never became classics in the us. I might be tripping and it's garbage 😂 ... but back in film school my favorite directors were the three "K's" lol... "Kubrick, Kurosawa, Kusturica" ... and I really, really feel you are always on point with your reviews... that's why I'm so interested in hearing your thoughts on either of those 2 particular works...

I need to check Perfect Days for sure. Hm I can see Kaufman doing a kids movie. But I'm just not sure how the melancholy would translate.

I feel like I've seen a million previewsof the Bob Marley movie. But now that its coming out, its weirdly silent. But I dont really have much interest in it. I'll check it if there's nothing else around. I'm real skeptical of the Coen solo debut. I won't lie...I wanna see Madame Webb just because the reaction to the trailers was so hilarious.

Orion and the Dark - an animated kids movie about a boy and his friend Dark written by.... Charlie Kaufman! Normally I would definitely not be interested in something this but the idea of Kaufman writing a kids movie has me somewhat curious. Also it has an interesting voice cast that includes Werner Herzog lol. Otherwise I pretty much echo Bennetts list along with Wim Wender's Perfect Days.

Slim pickens this month, but that’s usually the case for the beginning of the year. Here are some notables: Argylle—the Matthew Vaughn-directed spy comedy with Sam Rockwell and Bryce Dallas Howard fighting off bad guys while lugging around a cat in a backpack with a plastic bubble. For some reason, people claim Taylor Swift wrote it. She should sue them for defamation. (Feb. 2) Lisa Frankenstein—a Diablo Cody-scripted black comedy about a teenage goth who reanimates a corpse and proceeds to fall in love with it. I feel like we’ve seen this concept before on way or another but maybe DC can bring something special to it in her writing. (Feb. 9) The Taste of Things—this one, about the relationship between a 19th-century man and his longtime cook, has gotten some critical acclaim. Tran Anh Hung won Best Director at Cannes last year for it. The cook is played by Juliette Binoche. Enough of a recommendation. (Feb. 9–limited; Feb. 14–wide) Bob Marley: One Love—another one that’s been advertised to within an inch of its life in theaters. I dunno, could be good. Depends on how interesting you find Marley to be. At the very least, it will have a good soundtrack. (Feb. 14) Drive-Away Dolls—a Southern-fried caper comedy about two lesbian friends who go on a road trip and encounter various inept criminals. Ethan Coen’s solo directorial debut. Should be interesting to stack up against brother Joel’s The Tragedy of Macbeth. Was Joel the highbrow classicist akin to No Country for Old Men while Ethan was the irreverent farceur more in line with Raising Arizona? Probably not that simple, but worth thinking about. (Feb. 23)

Dang, I recently re watched it, wish I hadn't so I could see it in theaters...it's a great film, but don't think I'll watch it again in theaters.... but maybe... good to know!

It’s usually the time of year to check out some cool indie awards contender movies that are finally getting wider releases. Over the next few weeks, my local arthouse theater will be screening American Fiction, All Of Us Strangers, and The Zone of Interest, and I’ll be checking those out. Would love to hear your thoughts on them. Hope you’re getting over Covid well!

They’re re-releasing Satoshi Kon’s Paprika as a 4K restoration in theaters on Feb. 7! I know you reviewed Perfect Blue, but I would love to hear what you have to say about Paprika cuz I like it even better.
