Oppenheimer, but just because it’s first in the double feature. Will see both same day

Emerson B

Already have my ticket for the first 70mm IMAX showing of Oppenheimer.

Good point

Gary Smith

Oppenheimer.

Oppenheimer will be first. I feel like the emotional flow will be more sensible if I did that one first. When you sit through a depressing 3 hour movie, you’ll need some relief afterwards. If it’s the other way around, you’ll have your joyous mood killed.

For the most part, it come down to the timing of the announcements. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One was announced in 2019 and McQuarrie and company started working on the film later that year. Nolan didn’t announce Oppenheimer until 2021. So, my anticipation for M:I-7 started earlier. Also, Nolan of late has been a bit more miss than hit with me starting with The Dark Knight Rises. It had easily the worst villain(s) of the Dark Knight series and the ending didn’t make much sense. I wasn’t much of a fan of Interstellar. Sci-fi isn’t one of my favorite genres. Dunkirk may have been the LOUDEST film I’ve ever seen in the theater (it sounded like I was having real guns fired close to my head). Also, there wasn’t much of a story. And Tenet looked cool but also didn’t make hardly any sense and it was extremely hard to make out what people were saying most of the time since the film score was way louder than it should have been, in my opinion. Basically, I feel that Nolan hit his peak with Inception (should have won an Oscar, when winning Oscars actually still meant something). I come into Oppenheimer with a bit of trepidation considering Nolan’s recent string of so-so films (again, this is just my opinion, I’m sure there are many who feel all of his films were equally brilliant). Also, I’ve been a fan of Tom Cruise since I saw Top Gun at the age of 4 in the theater back in ‘86. He’s had very few films I didn’t thoroughly enjoy. And I’ve been a big fan of the Mission: Impossible franchise since I saw the first film back in ‘96. It’s escapism at its best. Even the lesser entries in the series (II & III) are very entertaining. Cruise, for the most part, knows what his fans want to see in his films and normally delivers. And that’s why I’m more inclined to see Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One before I see Oppenheimer.

interesting. Why Mission Impossible? I am excited for it, but surprised it's your most anticipated.

For me, it goes Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One and then Oppenheimer. I don’t see many films in the theaters these days (I prefer to be comfortable and pause when needed). But I’ve seen a majority of Nolan’s films in the theaters (only missing the theatrical runs for Following (which I’m not sure actually received a theatrical run), Batman Begins, Interstellar, and Tenet). I’ve been waiting much longer for M:I-7 than I have Oppenheimer.

Yeah that's my one caveat. Barbie is something we don't normally get. The marketing has been pretty great. Oppenheimer feels kinda warhorse-y. That said...I often find Nolan's historical films to be his best.

Ross Skilton

Lol, loving this strange meme war between the two. I doubt I'll watch either in the cinema - but Barbie would be my choice of the two. Oppenheimer seems like more of a lonely arty thing.

It’s probably due to COVID. They have to make up for the cost to stay open. Movie theaters are a dying breed, unfortunately. I had a little theater in my city that only showed art house films (Pan’s Labyrinth, Mulholland Dr., Days of Heaven, etc.) that shut down after COVID and I died a little inside.

I know man....I honestly don't know how it is so expensive. Ridiculous. Remember when we were kids? Going to the movies with the family wasnt terribly expensive. Could've been cheaper certainly but...wasnt too bad. But now...if you want to take your whole family out for one movie night...might as well just cash your entire paycheck for it.

Shane Palamara

Going to the movie theater is hella expensive so which ever one is on Max or Amazon Prime first. I’d rather see Barbie first for some reason. Nolan was never my cup of tea. I really liked Lady Bird so…

Wolfman Brandon

Never been interested in Nolan and definitely not in for another live action adaptation so I'm going with C. None of the above.

Arthur Augustyn

In an ideal world I wanted to start with Barbie and end with Oppenheimer because I’ll probably think about Oppenheimer more. But the showtimes on opening day were brutal so I’m only seeing Oppenheimer I’ll get to Barbie eventually

Bennett Oliver

Mattel at this point should just troll Nolan and come out with a Los Alamos Barbie playset.

Deepfocuslens

haha

So it's Oppenheimer but not out of preference. More of it's easier to find a time slot on Thursday to see it with me and my fiance whereas with Barbie, I have a gaggle of friends all wanting to see it so saving that for the weekend. Can't convince a bunch of gen Z 20-somethings to go see a three hour historical drama. Fun personal share, I'm visiting my dad in a few weeks and they're showing Oppenheimer in 70mm so I nabbed some tickets for that as well. Stoked.

Seth

Barbie only because I have friends that are only interested in seeing Barbie so we'll be seeing it at a more convenient time for them while me and my roomate will see Oppenheimer later at night

Bennett Oliver

Where can I vote for The Beanie Bubble?

Jackson Littlewood

It’s not my choice technically lol. I’m doing the double feature with a friend group and one of them wants to do Barbie first because “Nolan movies make them think” and they wanna have that to ponder afterwards. I think she’s ignoring the possibility that Barbie will be a Lynchian surrealist masterpiece

Jared Angcanan

barbie first, i scheduled it with my friends so that we have an upper and then downer with a lunch break in between
