The picture demands a second viewing. I liked it better the second time and could easily fire it up right now. I see it as initiation, loss of ego, blood sacrifice and rebirth. It's similar to his first film in this way. James asks right at the start: "Where are we?" Ironic, hilarious, neurotic and horrifying. What more can you ask for?

LOL I got the notification for this and was like "What did I do?" after reading this before I realized this is about Cronenberg's son. Anyway, an ice storm has hit all of Southeast Michigan leaving hundreds of thousands of us, myself included, without power for at least a day now in 30° weather at the time of posting this. Another reason to hate winter up here.

I am so happy for her this last year to see her finally getting the roles she deserves. I first saw her in Nymphomaniac years ago. Absolutely loved her in Emma. And how she is going full-blown Carrie in these surreal arthouse pieces.

I remember first seeing her in A Cure for Wellness years ago and really being taken with her then so it's cool to see her really take off in the last couple years.

I agree. I really enjoyed the experience but I found the satire and the way the aesthetic is used to support it was ultimately really unfocused. Between this, X, and High Life, Mia Goth is in an absurd amount of movies with a certain bodily fluid in them lol. But loved her performance in this. Still think Pearl was the best use of her talents so far though.

I think it was always meant to be a comedy/satire, and the camp elements reveal themselves early on. I just don't think a lot of these genre devices are very focused, nor to they build to anything satisfying.

Oh man...yes. I am just astounded by her cinematic presence. That scene where she blocks the bus and is aiming right at James...Christ what a magnificent piece of acting.

Also a little mixed on it but I think it's easily worth a watch for Mia Goth. Truly a talent we don't deserve. She should be performing the greatest theaters in hell cause she has this unearthly screen presence.
