Bambi

Haven't seen any of this film in over 25 years likely, but I'm realizing how much Fox and the Hound copied many elements of the big climax with the hunters.

Agreed. Even as a kid I was drawn to the more slow, soporific quality to the older films, and their boldness to be more macabre.

haha for sure. Watched the trippy Dumbo sequence last night and was definitely watching for the same thing.

The death of Bambi's mother is so subtle that I think most children don't catch it. Also, they are constantly recycling things. One of my favorite things to do with Disney movies is the watch for animation cells that show up again in more contemporary movies, the hippos from Fantasia appearing in Aladdin, for example.

Evee wonder why Disney has such an obsession with the dead parent angle? 🤔🤔

Back when animation was not considered kiddie stuff and actually had balls but never sacrificed depth and subtlety. Those early 1940s Disney works are in a league of their own.
