I can confirm it makes the movie itself better too. It's the only way to get through it. I will never forget Val Kilmer's horny glance in the sweaty locker room or the volleyball scene. The sex scene between Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis (who is lesbian) is just absurd in this context, because otherwise everything falls into place!

I remember this on Siskel and Ebert's episode of Tarantino. This makes too much sense and is infinitely better than the awful story they actually did in Top Gun.
