Martin Scorsese’s CASINO
🕑 Added 2021-01-10 22:37:14 +0000 UTCAs I’m sure you all know, I get review requests and recommendations all the time. But naturally, all the ones I want to do, no one ever asks for. Just my luck right? XD One review I have always wanted to do, is a review for Casino by Martin Scorsese. I have my reasons. I think it had all the potential to be as good as Goodfellas or even better. But it failed in very key areas that for me are disappointing, enough to where the end product irks me. I still enjoy the film and I see so many good things about it, and yet it falls short because it couldn’t get beyond several glaring points. If they had been well executed, it could’ve been a refreshing change for Scorsese archetypes up to that point. So I suppose what I’m getting at here is, what do you guys think of the film. what do you like or not like? What scenes stand out and which bug you? Or if you haven’t seen it but know of it, what are your impressions?

My struggle was with De Niro's performance. His expressions were similar to some of his earlier roles. Though Joe Pesci played pretty much Tommy DeVito's twin brother but I like the character to degree that I give him a pass.

See, I struggle with Sharon Stone's performance a lot. But I think her character is one of the more interesting in Scorsese gangster films. So for it to not work for me on screen was one of the things that disappointed me most.

The ONE film of Scorsese’s I kinda like the most is Goodfellas. Aviator was good too.

I haven't seen it in quite a while, I'll try and rewatch soon. My advice (which isn't often great and even when good, I rarely take myself) Take a step back from it, don't rush. If you delay putting it out nobody [worthwhile] is going to mind. Worst case scenario, put the whole review on the shelf for some other time and make a different video you're feeling. Also, you mentioned the films you want to review you think nobody wants??? DO THEM!!!

Goodfellas is definitely my favorite Scorsese film as well as just being among my all-time favorites period. It's been awhile since I've watched Casino but I can say I'd probably rank it as his 6th best film behind 1) Goodfellas, 2) Taxi Driver, 3) The Age of Innocence, 4) The Irishman, and 5) Raging Bull. I will say though my main thoughts on the film has always been that it has an unfair reputation as Scorsese just doing Goodfellas all over again and therefore panned by critics like Siskel for not being as good. I've always seen it as just a notch below Goodfellas, not quite as good but still among the "great" Scorsese movies.

I haven't seen it for a long time but I agree that Goodfellas is clearly a better film. To me Casino is like a long Video Clip, colorful, well edited, surely entertaining. It's not a masterpiece but a good movie. Sharon Stone's performance was pleasant to experience, as well as Joe Pesci. The scene I remember the most is SPOILER brutal death of Joe Pesci character and his brother. Oh and I remember Meadow Soprano liked it a lot because of Sharon and such :)
