AUG 1/2 Update: IWBTWR UPDATE
🕑 Added 2025-08-15 13:37:51 +0000 UTCHi guys, i decided to go for a new format with the IWBTWR updates. Rather than give my thoughts on the previous comic in one single summary, I'll spread my thoughts out into indiviual panels with some deeper context in the story decsions made up to that point.

IWBTWR UPDATE
"White Zin"
Is supposed to be a transitional comic to the next more impactful comic down the line. Daisy is supposed to be pushing Zoey in a worse direction by being back in her life.
Apparently from one of my friends, the most pretentious asshole while you can order is a "White Zin" with soda water. Bonus points if you say "on the rocks" and bonus points if you point out how to drink the wine at the optimal degree.
The Grindr joke was petty funny, and I wanted to fill in the comic with some humor to ease the harsher story down the line. It also gives some spice to Daisy's character and her values.
Daisy saying "whoring yourself" out is such an attack on Zoey's diginity and her character it almost makes the audience wonder why she even bothers with such a friend.
The DSE is a major exam in Hong Kong which requires every high school child in Hong Kong to pass. If you get high grades, it provides a solid path to a high quality university. If you fair, you work undesireable jobs to get on with your life.
Zoey inists that she deserves her grades, she even insists it repeatedly. However she never refutes any of Daisy's accusations. So what does she "deserve"?
"The Precedent"
Zoey starts to crash out by drinking a shitton of alcohol she gets from a convience store.
Finding a store clerk's design was kinda hard cause I didnt want someone who could just blend into the main cast. So I opted some design which wasnt too far from what I'd do usually, but someone you wont find in the main store.
"Azaki" Beer is based off a very well known Japanese beer over here which is pretty cheap.
Zoey shoplifts for fun. Zoey dislikes the situation that she's in so much, she's trying to self destruct to redeem herself for what she has done in the past.
The precedent is set. Zoey hates the perception that you dont have to lie and cheat to get an honest position in the world. Because if that's the precedent, then the things she has done has genuinely made her a bad person, and not a person who is forced to be bad in a bad world.
IWBTWR Drafts
This character page needs to empthasize the amount of distance red kid is walking. I'm going to reformat it repetatively like how I did in page 3. I'll also be drawing some backgrounds, transitioning into a dream sequence??

Here we slowly inch into more supernatural territory, the comic now addresses the color choices made so far with deeper meaning. All the colors are lining up to clash against each other.

I love when a character who has kinda evaded their past has a friend show up who knows about their past. Daisy doesn't seem to know everything, but she's still able to poke at Zoey in ways that Jenny or Tommy simply can't. It was weird to see people on the Discord call Daisy a villain though. Like yeah, she antagonizes Zoey for sure, but she's just a product of Hong Kong the same as the rest of them. She's just a different reflection of the type of people the city can produce. In that sense idk if there is/will be a true villain to the story. Depends on where you want to go with it I guess. Maybe the supernatural element will create/introduce one. Excited to see more of that, both in this flashback and especially in the present day. I'm gonna eat that stuff up, I already know it. I also like Daisy's "wtf was that?" moment. She does all sorts of scummy things but she still has scummy things she gets caught off guard by. Shows a difference in values and priorities between her and Zoey. I like the format for the post, by the way. I'm fine with updates talking about the broad strokes of the story but the focus on smaller details points out a bunch of interesting things. I still don't fully understand what Daisy's line about "whoring herself out" meant though. It's obviously not about her sleeping around, so I guess she sees Zoey working retail as whoring herself out? Idk. Great updates though 👍
