FULL WATCHALONG ~ VIOLENT NIGHT
🕑 Added 2024-12-21 07:34:26 +0000 UTCViolent Night (2022) is what happens when you mix Christmas cheer with an R-rated action flick and let Santa himself dish out the season’s beatdowns. This delightfully chaotic holiday romp stars David Harbour as a jaded, whisky-drinking Santa Claus who stumbles into a hostage situation on Christmas Eve. When a group of mercenaries led by a scene-stealing John Leguizamo invades a wealthy family’s mansion, Santa trades in his sleigh for some bloody creativity, reminding everyone why you really shouldn’t get on the naughty list.
The movie gleefully embraces its absurd premise, with Harbour’s gruff yet oddly heartfelt Santa delivering a mix of brutal combat and holiday wisdom. Think candy canes as weapons and Christmas lights as garrotes—it’s as ridiculous as it sounds, and it works. Meanwhile, the hostage family is just dysfunctional enough to make you cheer for their redemption, even as Leguizamo’s “Scrooge” chews the scenery with villainous glee.
Violent Night is a gory, over-the-top love letter to holiday action classics like Die Hard and Home Alone, complete with booby traps that would make Kevin McCallister blush. It’s equal parts festive and ferocious, a new Christmas tradition for anyone who likes their eggnog with a side of carnage. Santa’s never been deadlier—or more fun.
