Directed by James Wan, the film follows Madison, a woman who begins experiencing terrifying visions of brutal murders that are somehow connected to a dark figure from her past. Sounds like your standard haunted-house fare, right? Wrong. What starts as creepy shadows and ominous jumpscares quickly spirals into a mashup of body horror, camp, and one of the wildest plot twists in recent horror memory. Compared to modern horror movies that try to maintain an air of deadly seriousness, **Malignant** is refreshingly unhinged. It’s a love letter to 80s and 90s horror, complete with insane practical effects and a plot twist that feels like it’s straight out of a fever dream. Wan leans into the absurdity with zero shame, giving us a movie that’s as gory as it is utterly ridiculous. By the time the final act hits, you’re either laughing, cringing, or both—but one thing’s for sure: you won’t be forgetting it anytime soon. **Malignant** is a wild, self-aware horror rollercoaster that’s just as much about shocking you as it is about reminding you that sometimes, horror can be completely, gloriously off the rails.
