Aphex Twin - Blackbox Life Recorder 21f (Drum Pattern No. 108)
🕑 Added 2024-01-03 22:26:22 +0000 UTCThis is my drum pattern transcription in the style of "Aphex Twin - Blackbox Life Recorder 21f". This song makes heavy use of different note or gate lengths to achieve this characteristic glitchy drum sound, which can be tricky to set up with drum machines. Check out the chapter "Note Length" in our Drum Machine 101 Book for a guide on how to do this on various sorts of equipment.

This really demystified the track! I love how such a simple groove ends up feeling soβ¦groovy!

Hi Liam, the way we programmed it the gate length is split up across the two repeats, so they're two 32nd notes with a gate length of 8% each :)

very cool! I think I might try to lay this down on the Rytm tonight for today's Jamuary piece. Question about the "2" on the CH and snare in the last bar - would those be two 1/32 notes both with the same gating? or some other division? Will tag you guys when I post!
