Dedicated Patreon Special! MicroDroid
🕑 Added 2020-03-11 17:52:25 +0000 UTCAs another little thank you to all the dedicated patreons, here's a tiny Micro Droid. Designed specifically for those just getting into RC or for children to start droid buiding. Probably printable in a day (not my usual huge builds), no cabling to make up, just grab 3 x FS90R continuous Servos, 3 RC channels and upwards, a receiver, a 4.8V rechargable 1200Mah battery pack, some 3mm bolts / nuts and build / paint a droid :-) You'll also need 4 x 3mmx7mmx3mm bearings for the wheels. Enjoy!
Here's the link to the STLs.

For those wanting to tweak / play, here's the fusion link for the source files.

I have a Sphero RVR and am wondering if the main body, dome, swivel arm can be adapted to that chassis. It’s already a tracked vehicle. I have the stl file for the RVR baseplate. I think I just need to download the needed stl files from this build and cobble them together in tinkercad.

It’s the bb-r2 post later on.
Awsome, i am looking for the Micro R2D2 any have idea where it is?
Rob Libby
Great little guy. What did you do about the tracks? Printed flexible material? If so what kind
Thank you for the top-update. Now my Flysky reciever has a perfect home.
Would it be possible to add some parts to this to make it a non-powered model? ie...no servos, batteries or rc. just a rolling, swivel dome little guy?
Jonathan Plasted
you might find this funny but the last RC controller I bought was when I was 9, it was the kind powered by colour identifiable "Crystals" I once went to a few model shops last year trying to find spares ! only had 1 set left... a few shops gave them to me for free when they found them too, apparently they didn't think there was much of a market for them lol..

id love to have the fusion files might add a tail or cat ears to the dome! gunna make mine Black and purple I think with special purple tracks!
Wow that would be great. Thanks a lot Michael.
Michael Baddeley
They can be, I’ll add him.
Are the fusion files available for this little guy? :-)

Basically some kind of remote control transmitter and receiver, that has at least 3 channels. The channels equate roughly to the number of servos you can control. So a three channel transmitter and receiver can control 3 servos.
Peter Richards
It's already working then, my girls are very excited.

As someone who's never done anything RC, I actually am clueless when it comes to buying necessary bits here. What is meant by "3 RC channels and upwards, a receiver"?
Michael Baddeley
Exactly why I did it, small, quick and ideal for involving the kids on the hobby.
Peter Richards
Thanks so much for this, so great to have a weekend project for the kids. The bigger builds are great, but falls into "Dad's stuff" generally at our house. This one I can have the kids involved from start to finish over a few weekends.

an unexpected bonus ! thank you.

This is a cool little addition thank you

Pretty cool. Maybe I'll tackle this one before I try wiring up D-0V2
