2-3-2 update
🕑 Added 2018-04-15 17:59:18 +0000 UTC A whole weekend of printing and testing tolerances... I've literally printed the drive gear box probably 4 or 5 times. Nearly there, still got some tweaks but I'm happy with the running and meshing of the gears. Overall pleased. Size wise, I've still got some chopping to do, to fit the lift mechanism into the body is not that easy and when you've a fair bit inside it's a squeeze but we're getting there. It will work with the existing design and bolt into the base replacing the frame which holds the centre leg. Still loads of testing to do, so don't expect a finished model in the next few weeks, it will take some time.I've also modelled the chopper dome arms just as a quick diversion, they're in the Patreon drive if anyone wants to look!
I'll also be at R2UK event (R2 Builder's club UK event) in August, check the UK Astromech club forum / facebook page for details.

Hi. That sounds great. My familiarity with fusion is ok, but cutting objects and making them joinable is a new level. So it would be great to see your guide once done. Kind Regards Ian

It is possible to cut the dome. I’m going to publish a guide to cutting the parts soon so everyone can cut the parts if they want to.
Hi. I love the work and the originality of your 232 design here. I am just starting and was wondering if you could modify the standard R2 Dome to print in more sections. I need to keep an eye on my printer and 18 hours per part is too long. Is it possible to half the part sizes to half the print times at all? Kind Regards Ian

Hi Martin, I haven’t. Still testing the gearbox at the moment. I’ve printed the lifting gears but not tested fully. There is loads of work yet
Michael, have you tested with a motor yet? What kind of speed are you getitng for the lift?

Well I don't know where you find the time, but your work is amazing. My daughter is very excited for the Chopper arms. We are competing for time on the 3d printers, her building chopper and me building R2. Right now she is winning. So mush to print, so little time.

I cut as a standard 200x200. Most parts will be fine. The main frame will need a second cut for 16 but it’s not too hard.
Fantastic can't wait. Will this be cut so it can be printed on a 16cmx23cm print area?
