Upfront, my credentials: I got into Fallout with Fallout 3, then played New Vegas, 2, and 4. I could never get into 76 because I'm not really an online or MMO person, but if they make a new single player offline game, I'd give it a shot.
I've wanted to do a Fallout story for a while now, and I've read a story here and there that I've really enjoyed too. My only problem was not knowing what sort of story to tell. I could have had a tribe or settlement who are essentially post apocalyptic Stepford, but that felt too samey to my normal Stepford stuff. Could do aliens, but that felt a bit too detached from the actual world of Fallout itself. I can always do a non-Fallout alien stepfordization story, you know?
But eventually I landed on the idea of a vault with a very particular vault experiment: rehabilitation. We know the pre-war Fallout government experimented with brainwashing and wanted to keep the public in line, so why wouldn't Vault Tec set up a vault that was designed to lure in raiders and bandits and "civilize" them back to pre-war norms?

That was really good! I typically don't like fanfic, but this worked really well for me (possibly due to the quality, original characters, and appropriateness of the setting)

I've thought about it a few times, but sadly I've never quite nailed down an alien abduction Stepfordization idea I've liked enough to pursue.
