Retro Futurism: Dahlia’s Run part 1

It’s been quite a long time since I finished up the last one, but I’ve honestly had such a fun time writing oneshot stories that it feels like went by so quick. I do think that after this story concludes, I’ll very likely do more oneshots for a while, at least until I sort out the details for one of my multi-chapter ideas.
Now, since Retro Futurism is a setting I’ve written before, I wanted to do something new with it. The first two stories in the setting touched on the idea of women being Designated as some kinky role, such as a bimbo or a housewife. This one in particular is about a young woman who explicitly does not want to experience that, and has a bone to pick with the entire process. I tried to make Dahlia interesting, and unique as a protagonist, and I hope that comes through a bit towards the end of this chapter.
Now, I know this chapter is largely narration without much in the way of dialogue or moment by moment behavior, up until the end, but that’s just for this chapter. I had a lot of setup I needed to do and a lot of exposition to get out of the way, so that chapter 2 could get right to Dahlia’s escape from stepford society.

Thank you! I have a pretty firm idea on how this one will end, but much of the journey there is just happening as I go, but it’s definitely more clearly dystopian than previous stories due in part to Dahlia’s more critical perspective.

Really interesting! Centering a rebel against Stepford in the wake of your recent stories about diehard fanatics and enthusiastic converts makes for a refreshing change of piece. I enjoy them all of course, but I admire your dedication to exploring as many different kinds of Stepford story as possible! Speaking of which, I don’t usually relate to trans protagonists, but I’m really compelled by Dahlia. It totally makes sense that a trans girl would be especially awake to the flaws in Retro Futurism society. Which is turn makes me excited to see how she might ultimately end up reconciling with it..,
