I also wanted to start setting up some genuine seeds of Mya and Gabriel caring about one another here. I always enjoy Stepfordization most when there's some actual emotional attachments between characters, and so showing that connection grow between the two leads here is something I've had a lot of fun writing.
I've also had a really fun time with this story overall. I'll be upfront and say that it's darker than Fitting In, but its also not one of my darkest stories either. I didn't specifically decide on a middle ground for the tone, but I did write this story based on my own preferences as a reader and consumer of kink stories. Lately I've found that the stories I write based on my own enjoyment tend to be the ones that my readers most enjoy as well, so I'm just sort of going off of that these days. Keeping a steady tone, but always the sort of tone and plot directions that I, as a reader, would want to see.

I am really, really enjoying this story! Makes sense that it would be darker than “Fitting In” since “Fitting In” kinda feels like as light as a story of yours could be outside of the explicitly utopian Retro Futurism setting. Any lighter than “Fitting In” and it might not quite be a Stepfordization right? In any case, I love the sweet elements here, like the blossoming flirtation between Mya and Gabriel — I ship them! His decision to shield her from any explicit brainwashing is both a fun narrative device and an emotional engine. I’m sure he’s excited to watch her take on more and more of the Stepford lifestyle out of her own free will/competitive drive, and I am too!
