Work In Progress: WwF DREAM CAST
🕑 Added 2024-04-06 20:22:14 +0000 UTCIn my wildest dreams, When We Fly is an adult animated show on the TV that you can stream on, oh, I dunno, Disney Plus. Or WoW. Even better. For a while I have been musing about my ultimate voice cast, and I've updated my list! Maybe you can help me fill it out; I would prefer to populate this list with queer actors wherever possible. I'll tell you at the end which characters are giving me the most run-around.
TIG NOTARO as VALERIE: Tig is a lesbian comedian and her voice just IS Valerie's. If Tig had a long silver tail and her name wasn't a little too close to "tiger", she would BE our snow leopard salary slave. This casting is non-negotiable. If Tig won't take the job I'll give up and go to barber college. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRjjNC85Cjo
LAWRENCE CHANEY as RED: Also non-negotiable. Lawrence is a nonbinary Scottish drag queen who won the second Ru Paul's Drag Race UK. You may find the idea of that voice coming out of Red's mouth a little odd, but Red is a little odd, and now I can't unhear it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YmT_zpn3tM
NIKKI BLONSKY as KITTIWAKE: Nikki is a lesbian actress who famously played Tracy in the HAIRSPRAY movie. Her voice has a sweetness to it that hearkens me to our big blithe bird. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIPAWEfJMqI
LILY TOMLIN as AUNT ALSESTA: Lily Tomlin is queer Hollywood royalty. You might know her most recently from Spiderverse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9KoAnKYDAY
HANNAH CONDA as CASS: Aussie drag queen Hannah's voice got in my head during UK VS The World 2, and if she can sweeten it up she would make Itzel a very happy slothwife. This might not work, as I don't think Hannah is trans, but it's food for thought at least. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xS1-fR63Ok
SAM JAY as BIG BARBARA: Another awesome lesbian comedian, I'm pretty sure Sam is from Atlanta and not Brooklyn, but most Americans don't know one tough-guy voice from another, so maybe I'll get away with it. https://youtu.be/dXZb9KlmDow?t=294
JESSICA DARROW as CLEM: My friend Joe pointed this out to me and no, can't unhear this one either. This queer actress/songstress is arguably too young to play pushing-50 Clem, but that's why we call it acting! Anyway, you and I know her best from this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQwVKr8rCYw
SER ANZOATEGUI as RILEY: Another one Joe suggested, a nonbinary Latinx actor who could do big rhino energy, I'm sure of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCbxGAQvYCE
VICTORIA SCONE as EWELYNNE WISCONESON: Victoria is an AFAB lesbian drag queen and Liz created Ewelynne (the sheep health inspector) specifically to be voiced by Victoria. So please do have her people call my people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktyPWuzCPD8
WANDA SYKES as BEEBEE WOLFE: More lesbian comedian royalty. Maybe I'm crazy and Wanda's voice is a bit high to play a wolf, but I know she can do some growl... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q437SK-j0zk
MELISSA ETHERIDGE and KD LANG as ICY and VIXEN GRIN respectively: Just let me have this. Do I want kd lang to play Fox permanently? I don't know, does she want to? She can if she wants to! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB-QQAM1GDM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wjEVITyxQY
RU PAUL as RU PAW. Mama Ru might actually be offended if I was so crude as to leave her out.
JERKS I CANNOT CAST; PLZ SEND HELP:
Piggy Sue. Can someone please find me a queer actress, high vocal range, who has a midwestern accent or can at least cop a reasonable one? This should not be so hard!
Ike. Wanted: A transman VA who can sing, and will make me believe he is an elephant.
Itzel: Over-caffeinated, sarcastic, acerbic queer Latina (American accent) actress needed. You'd think we'd be tripping over dozens of these every time we go outside, but fuck if we are.

Ooh, I love that!

Vico Ortiz pops into by head for Itzel, specifically the voice they use for their character Jim in Our Flag Means Death.

I found a few clips of him on YouTube. He's great! He gets the job!

Well, her name is flawless! I will have to research her

Is race significant for the casting of Ike? I'm reminded of an actor who did a great job in a season of Shameless, Elliot Fletcher. To look at him visually, you're not going to see "elephant." But he has a pretty deep voice which I'll bet could be focused into elephant-range (which is a thing)

What do you think of Stephanie Hsu for Piggy Sue? Technically not a midwestern accent, but I'd consider her speech pattern to be generic-all-American enough to qualify her for the role.

I want this show!

I'm not the best with my acting knowledge, but I wish you luck in your endeavor.

I so wish I could help, Kae. :( Sadly, my knowledge in voice-acting is severely limited.
