I did not last long at all in the Graduate program. I set one foot back in school and it ripped my leg off at the pelvis, chewed me up, spit me out, and set my remains on fire. I will not be getting my Masters degree at this time. Or maybe ever. Nice try, Kae.
This isn't a cry for help, it's just me wanting to be honest with you folks. I'm not sure where I can possibly go with the company where I work my day job. I stay because it's a sure thing and I have a pension (which I absolutely, positively need). But my earnings are crumbs, and I can't take care of two people anymore on my salary. I've tried working three jobs and I'm just too old and tired. All I've ever REALLY wanted to do is make art that inspires humans to laugh and think. I can't corporate. I have no killer instinct, no thirst for blood. I just wanna vibe. Everybody Gets A Trophy Day is just fine with me. I was hoping a degree in business would help heal the personality flaw of chronic soft-heartedness and passivity. But they don't just go handing out Masters degrees because you're super brave and smart and doggone it, you need a windfall. I realized I was bringing an uncooked hotdog to a gun fight, and bailed with my life. I need to figure out where to go from here.
Thanks for listening to me, Patrons. Again, I don't expect anyone to solve my problems for me. I just want you to know I appreciate you so much for being here.

I'm sorry to hear it. This sounds terribly disappointing and frustrating. Just know you're not alone, and that this isn't a personal failure. Owlcoholik is absolutely right, knowing when to tap out is an underappreciated skill. Personally, I "toughed it out" to get a degree and job in a field I'm lukewarm about, and now I'm stuck in a career that is destroying my mental and physical health. It's gonna take me a while to dig my way out and start over. It's good that you realized this path wasn't for you early, before you got in too deep. Now you're free to find a new path. Take your time of course, breathe deep, feel your feelings. But know that this isn't the end. You'll find your place. I spent a few years working at a vocational college, and I watched plenty of adult students drop out, switch tracts, leave and come back, etc. It takes people a long time to figure out what they want to do, or to find the right career match for them. There's no guidebook to being a grown-up, this shit is tough. It's good you tried. Rest up, then when you're ready, try something new. 💓

I totally get it. The few times I've had to return to a classroom setting as an adult (an example that comes to mind: I had to take a one-day class before I was allowed to become my niece's godfather) I became a ball of nervous energy. I think I'm a little more scarred by that environment than I'm willing to acknowledge. I would never consider going back to school.
