Chapter 417 - Is there anyone to welcome you home? - A welcome return
🕑 Added 2024-01-21 19:07:05 +0000 UTCYou had your bag on your back and had given your goodbye’s and had a quick kiss with both Grace and Emma, watching them head inside before going through the front yard to get back home. The lights were on and from a brief glance through the window as you passed, you couldn’t make out anyone inside.
That changed pretty quickly as you got out your key and headed through the front door, getting met almost instantly by Sarah as she appeared at the bottom of the stairs. It looked like she had rushed down to meet you before almost knocking you over.
You barely had time to drop your bag before she rushed towards you and forced you to catch her to avoid toppling over, thanking you KDK fitness upgrades for not letting you fall over. Her legs wrapped around your waist and you held her tight against your chest as you to keep her from falling. You had no doubt with her cheerleading skills that she would be able to get off of you before you fell but that still wasn’t the reunion you wanted to have.
“I’ve only been gone 2 days you know” you joked, squeezing her a little tighter to show you were happy to see her as well.
“Shut up” she replied, not letting go of you either and staying quiet after that.
You had to admit to yourself that the hug felt great and you weren’t planning on letting go of her until you absolutely had to. The tension of coming back home was nowhere to be seen and with a reaction like that, you had no doubts that you had been missed while you were gone.
Instead of just standing near the entrance, you walked further into the house with Sarah still in your arms and just left your bag by the door knowing you could just grab it later.
You didn’t really have a destination in mind but you ended up heading past the living room and towards the kitchen when you heard sounds coming from inside. As you expected, Mary was in the middle of cooking dinner like usual around this time, wearing an apron and rushing around to make her final checks.
It took her a few seconds to notice that you were standing there but her reaction felt just as genuine as Sarah’s. She went to walk over to you but a timer went off for something she was cooking, stopping in her tracks as she was torn between which to pick.
You took the choice away from her by depositing Sarah on a nearby countertop where she reluctantly parted from you, and then you got closer to Mary. The timer was still blaring so you moved to turn it off before checking the oven, taking out what you now knew was a casserole. Peering over your shoulder, you checked with her that it was done before placing the dish on the grill top.
Not a word was said between you as Mary seemed to just continue staring at you but when everything was finally settled and you got as close to her as you could with the kitchen island to her back, that was what finally seemed to break her out of her trance.
“Heya..a…” she greeted, her voice catching in her throat and a blush rising on her cheeks.
You ignored her obvious embarrassment and leaned towards her, watching her eyes close before she parted her lips to meet you. Even with Sarah in the room, there was no hesitation from her like you had expected. She leaned back against the counter to steady herself and you could feel all her curves pressed against you as you leaned in, making you realise how much you had missed her the past few days.
“Why didn’t I get a kiss?” Sarah complained from what she was still sitting off to the side.
That seemed to finally jolt Mary out of her stupor and she lightly pushed you away, enough to break the kiss but she didn’t force you to move away any further than that.
“You didn’t ask for one” you replied, looking over Mary’s shoulder to face Sarah as you spoke
“Neither did she,” Sarah said back.
You wanted to say ‘she definitely did’ based on the look Mary had given you but you left it unsaid as she continued to blush in your arms, letting only you see her reaction while Sarah was further behind her.
“Well maybe we could have kissed if you hadn’t ran at me as soon as I got through the door” you explained, both you and Sarah smiling as you enjoyed the back and forth.
“You two have barely seen each other for five minutes and you’re already arguing…” Mary interjected, speaking up and politely tapping your arm to say she needed to move.
You let her go and moved over to stand next to Sarah, watching Mary make her way through the kitchen as she went back to working on dinner preparations.
“How was the weekend?” Sarah asked, letting you lean back against the counter she was sitting on.
“I think we all had a good time but I’m glad to be back. You?” you answered, throwing the question back to her.
There had been something in the conversation you had managed to spy on between Sarah and Mary that you were curious to find out about. You were sure Sarah would tell you if you put some pressure on her but you expected to find out sooner or later anyway.
“Not much to be honest. The three of us went out Saturday and got some takeout when we got back. Ended up trying to watch a film as well but… We were all pretty tired by that point” Sarah explained.
Her pause hinted towards something as she looked over at Mary. You turned to look at Mary but she had either not reacted or turned away before you could get any read on her.
“What are your plans for the evening sweetie?” Mary asked you, her interruption making your curiosity spike even more.
“I’ve promised Grace I’d do a shift at the gym so after dinner I’ll probably head over there if you are okay with that?” you replied, not needing to ask for permission but figuring it was for the best.
“...Yeah of course. When do you need to leave?” Mary asked again, pausing briefly as she had taken in your words.
“Well Grace and Emma need to eat and unpack so I’ve got some time. I won’t need to rush out the door right after we eat if that’s what you mean?” you said, hoping to get something out of her to give you more information.
You suspected something was seriously on Mary’s mind now that you were fully paying attention to her. She hadn’t even asked about the trip yet and you would have expected that to be the first thing on her mind if she didn’t already have something on her mind.
“Good, good. Yeah I just don’t want you rushing around right after you’ve eaten” she responded, the excuse sounding flimsy at best.
Sarah had a strained look on her face when you looked but she gave you a shrug as if it wasn’t up to her to tell you if something was going to happen.
