Chapter 349 - What option do you suggest? - A bit of shopping for themselves
🕑 Added 2023-07-09 19:11:55 +0000 UTC“How about you two do some clothes shopping? You already bought something for me so I don’t have any issues following you two around while you go and get clothes for yourselves” you suggested.
The option to go clothes shopping was never going to get turned down so Emma and Grace turned back to the map to see which stores they wanted to visit. Emma went through all the ones she had seen while she had been off on her own and apparently one of them piqued Grace’s interest enough to get the two of them walking off in its direction.
“Oh! What did you end up getting by the way?” Emma asked, trying to peek into the bag you were holding to see what was inside.
“Take a look, a jumper, shirt and some better jeans. Nothing incredibly fancy but I prefer something like this over a full suit” you replied, remembering the times you had had to properly dress up before and remembering the stiff collars making your neck itch.
“Oh a suit can’t be that bad, You're gonna have to wear something like that for prom even if you don’t like it. It’s either wear a suit or stand out and we both know which you hate more” Emma joked, making a pretty compelling argument.
Prom had been one of the last things on your mind recently but the reminder of it did make you think about what you had ready to wear. Luckily Mary had picked something out before you had even thought about going to the event but you still hadn’t even seen it yourself with Mary hiding it away in one of her wardrobes. You would have probably not approved the outfit if you had seen it weeks prior when she first bought it so you didn’t mind that she hid it, now just happy that you didn’t have to run around looking for a suit at the last minute.
“I’ll wear one to prom for your sake but that will be one of the last times” you replied, putting it out there for the world to hear.
“One of the last times?” Emma asked, expecting you to say never and suddenly making you embarrassed before you decided to turn the tables.
“Well there is one wedding that I think I’ll have to attend” you said before getting closer, whispering in her ear.
“Or maybe there's six weddings or more depending on how things turn out” you stated, Emma’s eyes going wide before you couldn’t keep a straight face any longer.
Only a few punches to the arm later seemed to be enough to get Emma to speak with you again and while it wasn’t the best segway, Grace had already wandered into the store and left the two of you alone.
“Listen, I did some thinking and I have an idea I think you’ll agree with but I still wanted to check with you first” you said, catching Emma’s attention rather quickly.
“Go on” she replied, looking around for Grace as she ran her hand along the lined up skirts.
“I want to get the ‘eye of the beholder' perk before the end of the day and the only way I can see that happening is if I start trying to register new people to get a level up. And before you say anything, these new subjects won’t be the same as everyone else. They’re just there for the xp and maybe if I do get the perk, then I can use them as some sort of spy depending on who gets registered” you explained, seeing Emma’s eyes light up as you spoke before you had to lower her expectations.
“You don’t even have to ask, I’m all in! I guess the perk would let you see through John’s eyes but that’s less important than the registering stuff.” Emma replied, getting giddy about the prospect of registering new people after mentioning it to you for so long.
Her focus was completely taken away from clothes shopping which was a miracle in and of itself but she knew that Grace would get suspicious if she hadn’t picked anything while the two of you were alone so she tried to look at the clothes even if she was reluctant to do so.
You could see her eyes darting around the store as if she was trying to find a target for you but only now did the prospect of actually registering someone seem to become real in your mind.
If it was only registering someone, the changes that would be made to someone minimal if there were any at all. From what you had seen with your subjects so far, it was only when they got to level 1 that any bigger changes were made. That did exclude any overall passive effects that you had unlocked but those either made people more accepting of certain kinks or just didn’t get applied until they reached a higher level.
Still, the thought of potentially interfering with a stranger’s life was something you didn’t take lightly and although you had had hesitations about it for the longest time and you even knew that your change of heart was for purely selfish reasons, you still decided to go ahead.
With your ethical concerns out of the way, that still left you with the practical ones. Going up to someone and just touching them for 5 seconds was bound to get you in trouble if you picked the wrong target and the time itself was too long for you to pass it off as an accident.
This had been something you had considered for quite a long time, starting ever since you first decided to register Rebecca as your first subject that wasn’t an accident. Rebecca hadn’t been a complete stranger however and that did impact the options you had available to you.
You also had to pick women due to the NPG giving you a lot less XP from what you remembered. That was less of a concern however as from the start you had planned for any of your potential spies to be women from the start, minus John who you didn’t think even deserved to be on the KDK in the first place. This might all change in the future when you actually needed to find out other information but for now you were set on keeping your sights on just the women in the mall.
“What about her?” Emma whispered, pointing over to a woman sitting alone on one of the benches outside of the store you were in.
“I’m not sure. She looks pretty tense and she keeps looking at her phone like she’s waiting for someone. I don’t wanna go over and have her think I’m hitting on her or worse, a boyfriend come over and think I’m doing it” you replied, knowing you were just giving excuses to a situation that was purely hypothetical.
Emma gave you a look to say she didn’t think the same way but she continued to try and find a new target anyway.
“How about her then? She seemed to be on her own but she doesn’t seem ‘tense’ “ Emma said, using your own words against you but you still took a look to see who she was talking about.
