Chapter 369 - Who is it? - Who you think it is
🕑 Added 2023-08-29 17:35:47 +0000 UTC“I can tell it’s him…” Izzy said with a sigh, standing from where she was sitting and picking up Jack to soothe him after the noise from the knocking had scared him.
“There’s a way out through the backyard and round the side so it’s probably best if you go that way if you want to avoid him like we said before” Izzy continued, unlocking the back door for you all to leave.
Grace left first and Emma left shortly after once she had said goodbye and she attempted to cheer up Jack, leaving just you.
“If it’s okay with you, I'll text you tomorrow about what times we might be able to visit. It really was nice meeting the two of you” you said, putting your hand on top of Izzy’s briefly and then giving Jack’s cheek a little squeeze, surprisingly getting him to calm down.
“You too” Izzy replied, smiling at you playing with Jack.
You wanted to spend more time with them but you couldn’t risk ruining everything you had achieved so far on this trip. You still had the desire to let Izzy come with you so she could just live with everyone without John and she and Jack could be surrounded by loving people but you had only met the two of them today and you knew you weren’t thinking straight.
Grace had to pull Emma who then pulled you as you both weren’t acting fast enough. Seeing that, Izzy was the one to wave goodbye and closed the back door, forcing you to move on and sneak around the side of the house. Luckily there weren’t many windows and the curtains were closed to stop you from being seen by anyone.
There was just a gate stopping you from seeing the front yard but it gave you cover while you waited for John to get inside, still hearing him knock on the door as if he was impatient to get inside.
“What the hell took you so long” you heard him say as Izzy let him in.
“Well if you didn’t knock so loud then you wouldn’t have made Jack…” Izzy replied, the conversation cut short as the door closed and you could no longer hear them.
With the door closed, it gave you all the chance to leave while Izzy kept him distracted. You still had to sneak through the front yard and there was definitely a chance that you could have gotten spotted if you weren’t careful enough, letting Grace guide you where the line of sight was most obscured from the windows at the front of the house.
None of you felt safe speaking until you reached the car and even then, you all got into your seats before you let out a breath of relief. It didn’t feel right to sit around and discuss, even if it was a minuscule risk that you might get found, so Grace got the car started and you all set off.
“Are you both okay going back to the hotel?” Grace asked, needing somewhere to actually take the three of you.
You and Emma did a quick look between you before agreeing and that seemed to be all that was needed to get you all talking again, the worries of being spotted greatly diminishing as you got away from the house.
“Were you able to hear everything clearly from the car?” you asked Grace, wanting to know what she may have missed.
“It was a bit muffled after you went upstairs but it was fine other than that. I don’t think she expected you to turn up but she wasn’t exactly surprised either” Grace replied, not saying anything about your brief turn out of the room.
“Yeah I got that as well. She seemed really nice though” Emma added, seemingly having enjoyed her time with both Izzy and Jack.
“I didn’t get to ask if she knew he had a history of cheating but we did pretty much spell it out for her. I feel like there was still a lot to talk about to be honest which is why I asked if we could come back tomorrow. Is that okay with the two of you? I can go on my own as well if you want to spend a day together” you said, giving them the chance to go off and do their own thing.
“This trip is for you so we will do whatever you want” Grace replied, with Emma nodding in agreement with her.
“Anything?” you shot back, watching Grace give you a look through the rear-view mirror.
“You knew what I meant. And anyway, what was that weird moment when you were talking about phone calls before” Grace asked, putting the heat back onto you.
“What moment?” you said back, trying to act casual even knowing beforehand that it wasn’t going to work on Grace.
“Oh come on, ‘I love talking over the phone’ is not what I expected out of you” Grace repeated your comment, not giving you the chance to act innocent.
“I just thought that I probably wouldn’t get much chance to speak to her after this weekend so if I can say I like speaking on the phone then she’s more likely to stay in touch” you lied, hoping that was convincing enough.
“...That’s not all there was to that but… I can understand that reasoning. She acted way too excited” Grace stated, still cautious about both you and Izzy.
“Well, Max does seem to have a hidden talent for finding out secrets. I mean, he figured out your nudist tendencies” Emma said, trying to change the topic but getting a bit close to saying something you would regret if you said it yourself.
“I am not a nudist. I just like…” Grace started to say.
“Like going outside and being nude” Emma interrupted, a smirk on her face telling you she knew this would get Grace talking about something else.
“It’s not the nudity, it’s the fact that anyone could see me. The idea of being vulnerable but it also has a sense of being free. There’s also…” Grace continued, giving both of you more detail as you made your way to the hotel and the kitchen conversation was quickly left behind.
As much as you enjoyed hearing about Grace’s philosophy of her kink, and you did try to follow along, your thoughts did drift to other topics.
You didn’t know if you were going to get Izzy’s approval to grab some evidence about John but after this trip you were going to have to reveal what you knew in some form or another to Mary and while you had never been the best at breaking bad news, you wanted to think on how you could make this easier on her.
A few more serious topics ran through your head but eventually the car came to a stop and you were at the hotel before you had come to any proper conclusions.
Author's note: As mentioned a few chapters ago, I will be having a week break starting this weekend so there will be a 4 chapter break starting Sunday. Thought to give a reminder as a warning for the break :)
